Changes coming to the Crusader title
We were just talking about this on the podcast last night -- Turpster's tip a week or so ago was that going for the Crusader title in the Argent Tournament actually puts you at a disadvantage, because if you keep from turning in the last Valiant quest for the achievement, you don't lock off having the ability to do both Valiant and Champion quests together, thus, as you can see in the thread, earning an extra 36 gold a day, which adds up to 1000g a month. After you earn the ability to represent every city, you can't do the Valiant quests any more (instead, you have to earn city reputation through the Champion's Writ, which costs you 10g from the opposite reward). In short, right now, if you're leveling through the AT quests, stay away from the Crusader achievement until you have all of the city reputations covered, and all the gold you want.Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), Bornakk says that Blizzard probably will make a change here soon to smooth everything out. But how they'll do that isn't quite clear -- they could leave the dailies (or some form of them) open even after you get the achievement, or they could beef up the achievement reward to make up for it. Not a hard fix either way. But yes, until then, you might want to rethink racing to the Crusader achievement, as there's more reward to be had by waiting.

I was really hoping that some new quests would open up once I got the title - I didn't mind finishing off the Valiant dailies for good.
...what I really wanted was some sort of new content to do, since I finished what they'd set in front of me. :/ No dice.

I'm one of those people who has not turned in the final valiant quest so I can keep access to the dailies. I figured they would be gone for good once I did, and extra money is always welcome. Funding all my alts gets rather spendy... I generally also double-up on the Ebon Blade dailies at Shadowvault for killing scourge (and the other 2, since they take all of 2 minutes). When I do this on my alt, that means I get 1) extra money from the AT valiant daily, 2) extra money from the EB daily, 3) Ebon Blade rep, which I haven't worked up yet.
With my main working towards mounts, my alts working towards gear/pets, and the extra income going towards the parts so I can make a chopper, the only problem with the current system is that it makes too much sense to not turn in the final quests. I'm curious to see how they change it.

"(instead, you have to earn city reputation through the Champion's Writ, which costs you 10g from the opposite reward)"
Wait. What?
The Champion's Purse was there to compensate people who had no reason to do these dailies because they had exalted with all cities already, not the other way around. Getting city rep is supposed to be the focus. The money is just a bonus if you already drowned yourself in runecloth.
Now, not being able to do the Valiant dailies... yeah, that's obnoxious. But the Champion dailies were supposed to be rep first, money second....

I stupidly got 2 writs before I realized what they were for. They really need to think of a way to turn them in for factions you still need rep with that aren’t the home factions for your side.
SaintStryfe May 14th 2009 6:21PM
Amen. I would love to finish up some BC reps with these writs instead of the 40 gold a day.

Having already gotten the Crusader title, I hope they "fix" it by making Crusader no longer available. There are titles for people who opened the AQ gates which cant be gotten anymore-- maybe Argent Tournament in 3.2 will have a new goal and title all its own with a plot-driven restructuring of the dailies.
I'd like that. Maybe they could do 'Conquistador' or something.

"As someone who has achieved this title, I'd really like it to be retrospectively made a one of a kind title. If I hadn't achieved it, I probably wouldn't want this to be the case."
Condor May 14th 2009 11:14PM
Haha! So true!
failknight May 15th 2009 12:42AM
Obviously I'm in the latter situation :P

I haven't done those dailies in awhile, since I wanted my Crusader title.
Ultimately, I feel it was worth it, especially the achievement spam my Guild got of me getting about 8 achivements, including one of the "Get X amount of Gold" once, and about 3 titles.
Sure, I'm losing money each day, which I could use, especially now that I can get my full 100 from the Champion dailies, and a simple solution would to offer the dailies from your Home faction once you've become a Champion for all the races.
My only concern is, a couple of these dailies overlap, which saves time(in terms of how much money you make in a certain time span) and they may decide that won't do. At the very least, I could see the Weapon daily making a return, though I'd hate to go back to doing that every day.
mayjest May 14th 2009 6:20PM
I'm a couple of days away from Crusader. I'm already an Ambassador, so it's just a question of getting those last few Valiant's Seals.
Although I creatly enjoy the extra gold and ease of the Valiant dailies, I'm still going to get the Crusader title, simply because it's what I've been shooting for this whole time. I'll miss the gold, but meh, it's 20 minutes of my day I can now spend doing other things again.
SaintStryfe May 14th 2009 6:23PM
yeah, same here. I just got the title early this morning, and while I considered holding off... I realize I'm baking 1:30 into dalies every day. I think I can leave them go for now. :-)
The Claw May 14th 2009 8:17PM
Well I just got the Crusader title, and I for one am delighted to have the Valiant dailies no longer available. Having done the full set 25 times now, I could hardly be more bored of them.
Yats May 14th 2009 8:52PM
i think it makes sense the way it's setup atm.
It's basically a quest chain of dailies....
you start off at the begin of the chain, where your ultimate goal in the quest chain is to become a champion.
So, you're progressing through the quest chain and basically practicing to become a champion.
After you become a champion, you stop doing the practice sessions... because you're already a champion. You've now finished the quest chain.
I'm sure there'll be more opportunities to grind you city rep when the next stage of AT comes out.
Nathanyel May 15th 2009 7:00AM
First, there are lots of other dailies, you don't "lose" the gold from those dailies, you just lose some time, as you can't do those dailies while doing the Champion ones.
Second, if you want to continue to do the Valiant dailies to get more City rep - why would you turn in the last Valiant's Charge then, anyway? You turn that in when you are Exalted with all cities (+AC) to get the title, simply as that. Everyone except DKs should be well into revered with every city already anyway.

Got my Crusader title six days ago and found this out. To be honest, it was a relief, as the extra dailies were quite a burden when you have multiple level 80's all doing dailies as well.
But really, the Crusader title is very much worth not being able to do the dailies anymore. I almost never see anyone with the title, even now, a week after it's been possible to have gotten it. I constantly have people asking me where I got the title from, and it's been a very nice way to meet new people.
As for 'more dailies', I hear they are adding more dailies which will give us more Champion Seals in the next patch, which is adding phase 2 to the Argent Tournament. I'll take Champion Seals over just more gold any day.
I hit the point where gold is useless faster in WotLK than I did in Burning Crusade, and the rewards mean nothing for me if they do not give reputation or items. As for reputation, the Champion dailies give you writs if you really need it. And Sunreavers reputation will automatically be full exalted before you finish championing the old-world reps anyhow, so I don't see that being an issue either.
I'm curious to see how they are going to change this, but if there is no benefit aside from gold in their changes, I won't be taking advantage of it.
Radiophonic May 15th 2009 4:15PM
I was exalted with all Horde factions before AT came to town, does this leave me at a disadvantage with these dailies?
