Design your own holiday
Crygil wants to know: if you could design a new holiday for the game, what would it be? I don't think I've ever heard the question asked before -- holidays are really just optional fun for more players, and Blizzard has always covered the basics (Christmas, New Year's, Thanksgiving, Halloween, etc.), and even added in some of their own by giving real-world holidays some Azerothian flavor (Midsummer Fire Festival, and of course Brewfest). Are there really any holidays they missed?I guess Labor Day and Memorial Day are the two biggest ones -- maybe all of the NPCs could take a day off, there could be giant barbeques set up in the capital cities, or players could take a day to remember those fallen in the past wars. Or you could go another route and just make up your own holiday: Grumpyfool of Azjol-Nerub recommends Gnome Appreciation Week (a whole week?), where Azeroth's shortest denizens can get some love of their own. A more recently based holiday might be fun, too -- maybe once a year we could remember Arthas' (it was Arthas, right?) zombie attack on our homeland.
I doubt this is going to be used to determine actual Blizzard policy. Seems more like just a fun thought experiment. But there are definitely some interesting ideas in there -- if Blizzard ever wants to add yet another holiday to the calendar, there are plenty of ideas.

D-Day:
Every June 6th, all melee gets one-shot by any spell cast against them for the entire day.

Bonfire night, of course!
Remember, remember, the fifth of November!

Don't forget that USA is not the only country there WoW players live so I have no idea what June 6th is except for being the day before my birthday :P
I would like too see more holydays which are not connected with real world ones or some love to other countries traditions

Like the poster said, it was D-Day. I don't know where you live, but I'd think that regardless, you should learn what D-Day is if you didn't know before :P

I have a few that would all be for kicks and giggles;
1)(june) Graduation/ Prom Season for all the newly trained members of the horde/allaince(horde should ALWAYS be said before alliance)
2)(aug)late summer celebration where players have quest chains in beach areas like tanaris, stranglethorn etc. BGs could all have like a relaxed sunset colored theme just to make them a bit out of the ordinary and players could get a tan debuff that makes their skins a shade or two darker.
3)(could be any time of year that needs a random-ass holiday) Stormwind Founding/Orgrimmar Founding celebration where players learn about the events that occurred in said cities and can see visions of historic events (similar to how the arthas chain plays out in icecrown) relating to the cities. Also, during the ceremony, both cities could be sort of buffed up security wise (more 81 elites for example) and there be a extra special reward for killing Thrall or Varian during the event. Likewise, defending your city could give you a "Savior or Stormwind" "Defender of Orgimmar" title and hell, maybe even a unique mount. In order to make attacks/defends nice and organized, you can have a sort of ritual countdown where something special will happen just to give justification to a wintergrasp-like countdown where a raid/counter-raid could prepare. I think the event would work well for Blizz in November since a ton of games get released every year in that month and it could be a way to keep players in wow during that.

Something like "Love Day", but not so lame.
....
....
"Happy Love Day everyone!"

Your Birthday,
Have it so that once a year on your birthday (could be your characters when created) you can complete this extra little quest which gives you some kind of neat item and some bonus gold, almost like a small bonus daily.
Jason May 14th 2009 5:58PM
I like this idea, specific to your character. As soon as you turn one year old, you get a special gift. Nice one. They should do this. :)

Guild Wars does this. I don't know why WoW couldn't.

We definitely have a few months short on holidays, so I would be quite happy finding something fun to fill those empty months up with.
Todd May 14th 2009 6:41PM
August and November definitely need some holiday love.
AishaLove May 14th 2009 5:07PM
I'd add a holiday that is unique to wow maybe2, like alliance day and hoard day, both celebrated at differnt times, both holidays would be about "peaceful" celebration of everything that makes your faction great, events could include pulling pranks on the other factions players, like I don't know slapping "kick me" signs on players backs and such.
makes them a week long and have lots of dailies, plenty for pve and pvp alike.

a Freedom day... kinda like how the halloween one is the forsaken's independence day... but in a different vein for on the July 4th holiday. Yes i know it's a bit american centric, but hey blizzard is an american company.
FeverRey May 14th 2009 5:34PM
I could totally see something along the lines of Independence Day. Celebrate the day orcs were freed from demonic blood, Stormwind opening day, Dark Portal opening or Illidan's defeat day... should be slightly related to lore I guess.
AyaJulia May 14th 2009 6:55PM
That would be SO cool. I wonder what they could call it.
Hm... a big thing about independence day is fireworks. They should put in lots of fireworks. And maybe just plain fire! Fire is awesome.
And since it's toward the middle of the summer, they should name it after summer. You know, like how Winter Veil is really just Christmas, but named after winter?
Let's see... fire... middle of the summer.... How about Midsummer Fire Fes--
Oh wait.
FeverRay May 14th 2009 8:24PM
yeah, but we don't have midsummer fireWORKS festival... do we? lol
but since children's week was so close to easter, err, noblegarden, there could be something close to midsummer festival, I guess :)
DeathPaladin May 14th 2009 11:30PM
"yeah, but we don't have midsummer fireWORKS festival... do we? lol"
Yeah. This would be something totally different. We'd have to tack it onto the end of the Fire Festival. But it wouldn't be a festival. We're talking about heavy use of Explosives. With that many Explosives, it could only be an Extravaganza.
And since we all know that fireworks are made by engineers, we'd dedicate it to them.
So we'd call it something like the Engineers' Explosive Extravaganza.
Oh wait.
Ice Princess May 21st 2009 8:01PM
Children's Week could be in honour of Mother's Day
Vegatork May 14th 2009 5:09PM
St. Patty's Day
Find 4 leaf clovers
Get hammered off green brew
Get a Leprechaun pet
Eat Lucky Charms
Countless other related achievement could be made up.
George May 15th 2009 10:57AM
So you can earn the title "____ the Green"?
