Forum post of the day: Why did you /gquit
There are many different reasons for why we join guilds: to raid; to meet girls (well, not usually to meet girls). We also have numerous reasons why we quit guilds. I was kind of amazed by Oreooze of Dalaran's list of reasons for why he /gquit.1. He wasn't congratulated on his achievements.
2. He doesn't trust people online.
3. He didn't get invited to raids.
4. He didn't want to get Ventrilo he prefers not to use voice chat.
It sounds to me that the OP was not terribly interested in being a part of a team. I have to admit, I would have a hard time inviting people to raids that absolutely refused to get into Vent. I'm sorry, my friend, but real time communication is very important to success in raids. It is positively infuriating when someone wipes a raid because they missed an important instruction. I'm sure that some guilds can get by raiding without voice chat, but it's very frustrating not to have 24 people who can listen in and work with the team.
I'm sure the OP knew that his response would get lambasted by responders. I'm curious as to why someone so anti-social would even bother to post in the forum (except to troll.) I found that the responses reinforced the social aspects of the game. I think that Linaran of Ravenholdt hit the nail on the head when he suggested that a self-esteem issue might be the root of the problem.
Some people are just not meant to be in guilds. The original poster says that he will never be in a guild again. I'm with Gertrudis of Skywall when she stated "The OP needs to find a single-player game." Oreooze, I hope that you find what you're looking for, what you need, or both.

Or the most obvious one....didn't get loot? Loot they thought they deserved over someone else.
Michael May 14th 2009 4:06PM
I am about to leave my guild for a couple reasons.
1. They schedule a raid, say for Friday. I happen to log in on Thursday and see them in that very raid. When I ask WTH, I get responses of "We aren't going to clear it, only halfway".
2. It is stated in DKP rules that DKKP will not be awarded in said pug raids. Only problem is that it is being awarded since the officers are in it.
3. Absolutley no push for progression in Ulduar. Most would rather gear up alts in Naxx, which is cool, but when it comes to my alts I get shafted cause they need my dps to carry the rest of the raid.
4. Those that are geared for Ulduar are either: On their alts, see #3, or don't bother logging in to help with raids.
This has made my play experience rather annoying at best, and is pushing me out of the game. I play a ranged DPS and am currently on Madoran-US is anyone is interested, while I do not have BiS I can pull my weight in a raid and have experience on Flame, Ignis, XT, and Razorscale. I have multiple 80's all of which go with me. If anyone is interested please leave your characters name here and I will contact you if your guild might be a fit for me.

#1 Tired of hearing officers chat during raid and then tell everyone else to STFU..... Then start chatting again.
#2 Loot Council. Officers got all the loot. Nuff Said
#3 Wow stopped being fun in that guild. I'm SO glad I left.

My /gquit progression
1. Joined a guild with my rogue to help members to get keyed for Kara
2. Guild rejoined the guild that they originally split from because of drama (which I was assured had been taken care of)
3. Helped members of this guild get keyed for Kara
4. Once keyed, the officers decided that the new raiding schedule would be on nights that I couldn't attend.
5. Signed up for the midweek raids one week that I was on vacation. 1st night I was made sit out, because they needed so and so for this fight and that fight. 2nd night I was 'allowed' to go, but was told that if X item dropped then Y got it because he has been there since the beginning.
6. quit playing my rogue and leveled my hunter, hoping that at some point I'd be allowed to raid (I know, stupid) I finally had enough and went back to my original guild.
This whole experience left such a bad taste, I still have no desire to play my rogue.

And how are all these comments related to the first post? I'm sorry to say this but you are all attention whores.

Some people can't live without having the spotlight always on them.
For others it's a double standard. "I'm not going to say good job when you down the boss but everyone better say good job when I down him."

For someone that REFUSES to use a guild forum to communicate, hes hard at work on the Blizz forums . . . http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/search.html?characterId=35473755598&sid=1
Caatul May 14th 2009 2:16PM
Vent and Forums are completely different. I can easily post this response to you, and as I type it, simply backspace out points that I feel do not express my meaning adequately. Spoken word is different, and many people with anxiety disorders, even mild cases, have trouble getting around that. I'm usually chatty in guild chat, public chat, etc., and have no problem expressing my thoughts in comments and the like, but speaking presents a barrier. It's similar to those times where you just do not want to talk to someone on the phone, and instead choose to text them, only taken slightly more extreme.
Iwanttobeasleep May 14th 2009 2:59PM
Well put, Caatol, although I'd like to submit that while it should be perfectly acceptable not to talk in vent (baring the handful of situations where you need to say if you've done something like gotten an interrupt off or had your taunt resisted), it's also perfectly acceptable for a guild not to take you to raids if you won't even listen. I too often prefer not to talk (although I've been with my guild long enough that I'm comfortable), but listening is incredibly important.
Hoggersbud May 14th 2009 6:12PM
First off, I agree with Caatul's point above, and want to add a bit on this...
>but listening is incredibly important.
The question is, listening to what? A lot of the time, it's not anything important being said in Vent, just random BS and what is said...is damn hard to understand anyway.
Me, I hate voice-chat for just that reason. Either I don't want to hear what they're saying because it's something offensive, or I can barely understand them anyway. No, I don't want to try to ask you to not mumble, or to hear your swearing, or whatever else you think I want to hear.
That's why I left my last guild, and haven't been bothered by not playing the game for the past...month or two since I let my subscription lapse.
mandyamandy May 14th 2009 6:20PM
devo_as was talking about FORUMS. Not vent.
he was pointing out that the guy refuses to use the guild forums but is pretty busy posting on the blizzard forums. devo_as didn't say anything about Vent...
Stupidityisabundant May 14th 2009 8:56PM
@Hoggersbud:
seriously??? Maybe you should try getting the seminal fluid out of your ear. For someone who hasn't played WoW in 2 months because of some people in Vent, you sure are reading through WoW insider and finding the time to post. Seems like you just got mad because you didn't have any "BS" to talk about. Go play Viva Pinata instead of a MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER game. See the second part of MMO means multiplayers and the first is massive just incase you didn't get it. Maybe that means you might have to LISTEN to alot of different people. People that complain about having to communicate in a MMO should seriously play Single Player games. BTW I wasn't talking smack about Viva Pinata, that game rules!!!
Hoggersbud May 14th 2009 9:24PM
> Maybe that means you might have to LISTEN to alot of different people.
Yet you've completely sold me on not listening to people, because most of them are quite literally jackasses who don't deserve to be listened to, and yourself being a prime example.
It's odd how that works, but hey, there it goes!
kz May 14th 2009 2:11PM
I don't believe the OP should /wquit. Other than raiding, a guild is not necessary.
Bubsa May 14th 2009 2:20PM
WoW is certainly becoming more and more accomodating to more solo play, that's for sure.
Whether that's a good thing of course is a matter for debate.
Bob Dewane May 14th 2009 3:02PM
@ Bubba
What's there to debate? So what if WoW is becoming easier to play solo? Does that fact make it harder for the people who want to group to do so? As far as I can tell one thing has nothing to do with the other. Are you trying to imply that it should be a requirement to join groups or raids during the game? I REALLY don't get where you're going with whether or not solo play in WoW is a matter of debate as a "good thing."
AishaLove May 14th 2009 3:06PM
nothing from what I have seen has sugested he is quiting wow, he just quit the guild.
Joel Beatson May 14th 2009 3:11PM
WTF! Such BS on so many levels.
Clanklub May 14th 2009 4:24PM
^^^^ This.
Did anybody look this guys "achievements" up?
Or his stats...?
Or his spec...?
This toon is nothing more than a Tailor/Enchanter bank alt.
