The Queue: Going to the movies
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
The Queue is generally a weekday affair, but since this Saturday is going to be a busy day for us WoW players, we're going to be doing a special edition this weekend. You didn't forget about BlizzCon tickets going on sale this Saturday, did you? I hope not! If you have any BlizzCon related questions, get them in over the next couple of days, and we'll see what we can do for you this weekend.
Erogroth asked...
"What is the status on the Warcaft movie? I have not heard anything in a long time. Is it even in production? Will we ever see it? Is there even a website?"
There isn't a ton of public information, but there is a little. The original ETA given some years ago was 2009, but the current tentative date for release is 2011. Don't take that date too seriously, because it's just the estimate you can find on imdb.
We also know that the Warcraft movie (which will take place shortly before the start of WoW) is being produced by Legendary Pictures, which is probably one of the best companies we can hope for. Maybe not the best (depending on what kind of movies you like) but certainly one of them. Mike Morhaime has said that there's a drafted script already done, but it's likely to go through many changes before anything is finalized.
From the mouth of Chris Metzen, the main character of the movie will be a "kick-ass Human" that isn't someone we've met yet. No, it's not Varian. Bolvar Fordragon will make an appearance in the movie, but he's not the main character.

Richard asked...
"Imagine you're reading the story of World of Warcraft. What race & class would be the protagonist? It seems like it would naturally be human or orc since those leaders are quite clearly the main players in the storyline. Human Paladin? Orc Warrior?"
I know Adam answered this yesterday, but I'm going to answer it again: World of Warcraft in book form is a Choose Your Own Adventure series. Come on, I know you've all read at least one in your lifetime.
Jack Spicer asked...
"I'm confused, but did Hogger become infamous because he was constantly steamrolled, or was it because he steamrolled a lot of unprepared newbies in vanilla?"
As a newbie Human, Hogger is one of the first elite group quests you'll ever have thrown at you. New players generally don't really 'get' the whole elite/group concept until Hogger. An unsuspecting Mage will Fireball Hogger and immediately get owned in the face if they're alone. All of a sudden, the elite status makes sense. So yes, he streamrolled a lot of unprepared newbies.
His pop culture status was born largely because of silly little things that players (and Blue posters) did involving him. Raids on Hogger consisting purely of level 1 characters, things like that. Hogger didn't build his own reputation, players built it for him.
Nolan Rumble asked...
"Why did I just spend 100 Champion Seals for a Swift Darnassian Mistsaber, only for it to look EXACTLY like the Swift Mistsaber that only costs about 60 gold?"
The appearance of your mount is going to change when the next patch hits. Blizzard is giving them a seperate set of skins, and you'll be able to get the old ones much cheaper. There's pictures of all of them over on MMO-Champion.

Looking through Wowhead I've seen epic gems (Cardinal Ruby) and gem cuts (like +20 STR and hit), but all the Jewelcrafters I've talked to say that don't exist. Are these patterns/gems something that drops in Ulduar and are undiscovered, or are they left over from the PTR and just haven't made it in-game yet?
aricharthau May 14th 2009 7:42PM
I could swear i saw some of those gems in the Auction House, but I could be wrong. I recall they were going for somewhere in the neighborhood of 600g.
Adam May 14th 2009 7:46PM
Remember, epic gems in TBC weren't available until Tier 6 raids...I'd expect to see them in 3.2, or whenever tier 9 is going to appear
Tamednan May 14th 2009 7:48PM
You can get these gems from the fishing daily in Dalaran.
Amaxe May 14th 2009 7:48PM
Fishing quest gems. Found in the bag you get from Marcia Chase

They are rare drops from the fishing dailies so far. I'm guessing recipes will be dropping in Ulduar/IC/the new 5-man dungeon they'll be introducing, though some may be faction recipes too... Unfortunately the only way for you to get those gems at the moment is by paying the auction house's exorbitant prices.

People aren't really presenting the whole picture here.
Re: regular, cuttable epic gems like Cardinal Rubies, Dreadstones, and King's Amber - No, they don't exist in game yet. At all. Who knows if they ever will.
Re: current in-game equivalents - You can get seven epic gems, pre-cut, from the fishing dailies in Dalaran. They're called Stormjewels. They have exactly the same stats as the epic cuts that aren't in game yet--20 stats, 23 SP, 30 stam. But as I've said, there are only seven and they come pre-cut.

Epic gems (that you see on WoWhead and spreadsheets) do not exist in game. They will be added to the game at a later date just like the epic gems were added in tier 6 BC content.
The only epic gems acquirable in game and found on wowhead are the fishing daily rare finds.
Anrax May 14th 2009 11:28PM
there are some JC only plans i think in late ulduar
Kryxx May 14th 2009 11:45PM
Also remember that the epic gems from the fishing daily are unique equip (1), so you can only wear one at a time.
Malkavos May 14th 2009 11:48PM
Another important fact about the Stormjewels -- you can only have one of them socketed in your gear at any given time.
Just like trying to equip a piece that will put you over your limit of equipped Dragon's Eyes, you will get an error message if you try to wear more than one piece that has been socketed with a Stormjewel of any kind.
Malkavos May 14th 2009 11:52PM
Dang it, Kryxx! Why'd you have to go and say the same thing as me... only in fewer words... and 3 minutes before I did... =P

When will Gamon just totally hulk out and destroy half of Orgrimmar?
Bizzy May 14th 2009 8:31PM
In the next expansion - "World of Warcraft: Gamon's Revenge"
Poor Gamon. If there's one thing I could bet on, it's that Gamon is in Orgrimmar on his face stinkin' at this very moment, on any realm.
Axx May 14th 2009 7:46PM
@Jordryn
These gems are from fishing. You can only have one in your gear, but they're the best non-JCer only gems. JCs cannot craft them.
Amaxe May 14th 2009 7:51PM
Legendary Pictures... does this mean every class is going to complain that it should be targeted to them? ;-)
skraps May 14th 2009 7:53PM
I received a epic +23 spell power gem from the fishing daily. It sold on AH for 1000g.

Anyone know of any plate kilts? We have an inside joke and I need a plate kilt now.
AyaJulia May 14th 2009 8:15PM
Are you looking for something short like a kilt, or can your average long skirt work?
If long is fine, T8 paladin legs are a skirt. There was some other stuff in BC content, too.
Yats May 14th 2009 8:52PM
T8 Paladin chest is a plate dress if that'll do.
