Breakfast Topic: Fishing is awesome
WoW is a many-faceted game. One of the facets that I've really been enjoying recently is fishing; after getting my Dark Herring last weekend, I only need to polish off my last few Northrend pools to ding Accomplished Angler on my rogue. I also pulled up a sea turtle last weekend, and let me tell you, that thing is fun, especially because I don't have my flying mount yet (three more levels to go on that character), so it's the fastest way I have to get around aquatic areas.
I'm impressed with the way they've expanded on fishing in Wrath of the Lich King, especially with the new fishing dailies and the other changes that came to my favorite secondary profession in patch 3.1. My biggest gripe is that the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat still evades me. The fishing gods even went so far as to taunt me with a Battered Jungle Hat last time I turned in the daily. That's just not cool, man. Not cool.
Has anyone else been having a great time fishing lately?

Love fishing!
Always have but it just keeps getting better.
Got a Tiny Titanium lock-box and got an epic spellpower gem and the 5 Ring. Selling the ring for over 3k. The gem is all mine.
Still looking for that hat though, and the turtle.

We're all talking about having fun having your character fish in a video game, right? Only it's not even a fishing simulator. It's fishing in WoW. Which is the same thing it's always been, cast the line, click on the thing, maybe get something random and generally almost completely worthless.
This is something we do for fun now. Really?
...
Man, achievements have driven players crazy.

I'm still looking for the hat, the sea turtle, and the sewer rat. I did manage to get a strand crawler from the fishing daily in dalaran, though.

Got the Sea Turtle. Last night, in fact. Fished it up from a pool next to the Lost hatch. Very happy.

Can't beat fishing up 700g+ gems.

Fishing is kinda like a slot machine. Not exciting ON ITS OWN (just quarter, pull, quarter, pull), but because there's so much random crap that can happen.
A lot of time i'll do the 'just one more cast... maybe I'll pull it this time' game for an extra ten minutes.
I just hit 70, so I started doing dailies a few days ago. Going for the bucket pets, and got a statuette worth 15 gold. Not bad for 2 mins of work. :D And I want the turtle and sewer rat something terrible.
muffin_of_chaos, a lot of the game is click, wait, click, wait. Sure, in a boss fight there's more to do, but ALL of the gathering professions are 'click, gather,'.
Why beat up on somebody for having fun with it?

@muffin_of_chaos
To each his own and all that. There are a lot of fun things you can get from fishing- from minipets to mounts to very nice epic gems to the 5 ring. And if you've not fished since 3.1 you probably won't know this, but the timer is a bit quicker now as well, and since there's now a chance you can get a fishing skill on any cast, it's a little bit less tedious to level (still tedious, but not quite as bad)
All in all I think it's more fun than it ever was, even though I enjoyed it before.

My reply:
I fished on my alts way back in VANILLA WoW when it was a pain for most people... BEFORE achievements. But guess what this is what OTHERS do for fun. What you do for fun is rag on those of us who like to fish in the game.

Me and my guildmate (who is the one that got me to play WoW in the first place) both fished up a sea turtle in the same night, a few hours apart.
It was amazing. We were parading around Icecrown on them last night. I hope Chillmaw appreciated it.

If it wasn't for fishing I'd have left WoW months ago! I can't stand all the mania over having the very best gear and I'm not an achievement hound.
But fishing -- YES! Nothing better than flying along in Northrend, finding a nice secluded spot, sitting back, and tossing out the bobber. Sanity restoring. And when someting neat does come along -- like the 5-ring, or an epic gem, that's just a bonus.
I will say this -- it won't be in 3.2, probably not in 3.3, but I know Blizzard has stated they are considering housing and with that though in mind I'm actually holding on to those greys most people dump like the velociraptor skull or stuffed shark. Someday!
Phyl May 15th 2009 8:59AM
Meaning they would have to give an actual form to ALL the grey items ? You're just dreaming.
I never heard Blizzard saying they were considering housing, and it seems impossible to conceive in this game.
My guess is that if you heard this somewhere, then it was just an attempt from Blizzard to make you stay longer... and longer... to wait patiently for something that will never come.

Blues from Blizzard have stated many times that housing is on the table, but also at the bottom of their priority list.

This post appeared and disappeared from the front page between refreshes. Two breakfast topics, too. Odd.

Sorry, this is actually Friday's breakfast topic, which slipped back to Wednesday for a few moments accidentally. How does it feel to be commenting in the future?

I have nothing to add, but that is sampled on one of my very favorite albums of all time. Good taste, sir. (Unless you are referring to the movie, which I haven't seen.)
FifthDream May 13th 2009 5:00PM
I was actually quoting the movie (one of my favorite quotes ever, from "(John Carpenter's) Prince of Darkness", a pretty cool 80's horror/sci-fi movie, definitely recommended if you like that sort of thing), but now i definitely have to check out the album...

Aha - I was wondering why this looked so familiar.
BulletzBill May 13th 2009 3:38PM
Are you doing the old Shattrath dailies too along with the new Dalaran ones? Because you know the Weather Beaten Fishing Hat can drop from those too.
I've been doing both for about a month now and I just got my hat the other day.

Hmm... I have a strong feeling of deja-vu here... didn't we read this post yesterday?
