Breakfast Topic: Will you be chasing BlizzCon tickets?

We know it's a lot, because BlizzCon's popularity speaks for itself. I think that any of you that were around for last year's ticket sales know that very well. This year, though, there are more offerings that will let you see BlizzCon without actually attending BlizzCon. DIRECTV customers can see the whole thing on PPV for just shy of $40, and non-DIRECTV customers can stream it online for the same price. That's quite a bit cheaper than making a trip to California. That's not even taking all of the fansites into consideration, either. I've had a few people say to me, "Why go to BlizzCon when I can just read the liveblogs on X and Y site?"
Where do you stand on this whole thing? Are you going to try to get tickets, or are you going to avoid getting wrapped up in the mess this year? I, for one, will be in the queue today.

I can't afford to fly halfway across the world... :(

I've been able to go to all the blizzcons so far for free. The problem is I lost my connection at Blizzard and I can't afford to buy one. Looks like I may not be going this year.

Same, live in CHina...

HEY BLIZZARD!
How about you hold Blizzcon on the East Coast once in a while?
ahopelesshadow May 16th 2009 8:19AM
I second an East Coast Con
SaintStryfe May 16th 2009 8:27AM
the motion is carried: Blizz needs to get off thier butts and hold an event in New York. Common, Mr. Morhime, you saw the people lined up around the block in November in the middle of a school semester.
Here's my idea:
Blizz has a half-sized BLizzcon at the Jacob Javitz center in New York, and in the goodie bag is a code for a random prize - the prize being any one of the major things that has been given before! Murky, Blizzcon Bear, Tyrell's Hilt, or the new Starcraft Merky from this year's Blizzcon.

As someone from the MidWest, I am opposed to the idea of an East coast Con (even if I am closer to the East Coast than CA). They're a gaming company, not a Con company.
That said? Hows about some fans start running Cons? That's how the whole convention thing got started in the first place anyhow.

@Gessilia
Would that make us WoWies? Will a hardcore offshoot called WoWers form off?
Can we piss them off like the Trekkies by making comparisons to Star Wars? ;-)

I was really hoping to go this year, only to find out I work when tickets go on sale. I wish blizzard would give people two weeks for people like me. Anyways, I'll try to grab a ticket or two on the second go around.

being recently unemployed, and on the other side of the country, and recently graduated, I think it's out of the cards. And where I live no one has DirectTV (we have good cable service), so I'm kind of annoyed.
James May 16th 2009 8:25AM
How does the DIRECTV PPV thing work for Europeans? Can we order it and if we can how do we get our goody bags? :o
Dunkurk May 16th 2009 8:47AM
I'm sure when you order it for EU they send you the bag with you're box ect.
psychojpg May 16th 2009 8:55AM
You don't get the entire goodie bag, just the pet.
MusedMoose May 16th 2009 8:25AM
Sadly, I'm both out of vacation time and not really willing to pay that much for a 'con.
...and I really, really want the Murky pet too. Ah, well.
Carda May 16th 2009 9:17AM
I'm just going to see about judging minis or TCG events for Upper Deck to get into Blizzcon (since I'm pretty sure they'll be there).
Charlie May 16th 2009 9:06AM
I'm super excited! Hopefully they don't sell out in 30 seconds.
Fall is going to be awsome blizzard time for me! Blizzcon, Murloc Marine Pet, SCII Release (*crossing fingers), 3.2, and major geekage over whatever they announce at Blizzcon this year.
They gotta announce something... right? right?
My money is on the next Xpac, but the next MMO and the Movie are possible as well.
Xanwryn May 16th 2009 9:10AM
I'll probably just read the fansites or possibly pay for the online stream (possible, not sure if I will though).
I'd much rather go there, for fairly obvious reasons, but when you live half-way across the world from the location it's held at it's a little bit hard to.
Mitawa May 16th 2009 9:10AM
I would LOVE to get tickets, but money is tight these days...
What if it was held in the middle of the country instead of -either- coast? Then it'd be half the drive from the east coast and not such a bad drive from the West either...
Eemeli.S May 16th 2009 9:20AM
Could someone explain a bit about the available streams? Do you have to pay to get any kind of live video?
I don't have ppv available and if I was to pay for online stream, it should work perfectly. There was a lot of problems with some world wide invitational stream I watched (free stream), and it didn't even cover all the events properly. Also only got 1mbit dsl, so can't really watch it if it's too high quality or the connection isn't too great.
Magius May 16th 2009 9:39AM
I second that, more info is needed on the streaming option. Where I live I dont have the chance of getting DTV so I would love that stream, specially if they also send you the pet. :)
