Ensidia gets 10-man Algalon world-first
Ensidia, the European super-guild that resulted from the merger of SK-Gaming and Nihilum last year, has just made the world first kill of the 10-man version of Algalon, Ulduar's true final boss. Algalon is only accessible after completing every other hard mode in Ulduar, and guilds are only given 60 minutes per week of attempts on him. 25-man Algalon has not yet been killed.
For details on the loot, see Ensidia's announcement; there's some great stuff there. Mek, from Ensidia, had this to say about the fight: "It's a pretty intense fight but not quite as hard as Blizzard made it out to be. The 1 hour timer is the real challenge since you must do a perfect attempt within it." Of course, I think "not quite as hard" for Ensidia is probably a pretty good challenge for the rest of us mortals. Congratulations, Ensidia!

congrats to them.
I expect it QQed and nerfed by next week :D

At least the hard modes that lead up to it will have to be nerfed in order to fit in with Blizzard's WotLK policy of wanting everyone to experience the fights.

Algalon is hard-mode only i.e. he's been designed under the assumption that most people are only going to see him through videos. Blizzard's raid philosophy is trying to avoid spending a lot of time on content that can only satisfy a very small demographic, but one boss fight? Not a huge amount of effort, he gives the hardcore raiders something to shoot for and the casuals something to aspire to. I'd expect the same design to return in 3.2.

Well done, Ensidia!!
Leviathon May 18th 2009 5:51PM
More like World First Defeat since he isn't killed in the encounter hence why the loot comes from a chest :p

You only need to complete AoI and the Keepers on hardmode to access Algalon.

Probably "not that challenging" when you're in best in slot 25man gear, but they probably didn't factor that in.
Agelamer May 18th 2009 7:32PM
Too be honest, gear doesn't play that big of a factor.
Sure, you can't be in questing blues, but the entirety of Uld 25 can be done in Naxx 25 gear. Since Naxx 25 is ridiculously easy, anyone complaining about 'not having enough gear' is trying to blame their own inadequacies on gear.

Actually if you look at one of the druids, she's got the spire of withering dreams equipped, which is an iLevel 219 staff from 10man. I could be wrong but I doubt its best-in-slot for a feral druid, so it doesnt look like they're all in the best 25man gear possible.
Lish May 19th 2009 7:21AM
Actually feral druids don't get much to choose from for weapons from Ulduar, so yeah it probably is BiS.
Towhol May 19th 2009 6:04PM
Well.. Actually, Journey's End from 25man KT is BiS for Ferals until we can get into 25 man Ulduar (and the only staff I've actually seen from there is from Freya Hard mode.). Makes sense, sine KT drops i226, and Ulduar 10 is only i219. Polearms, on the other hand, is another case. Hoperender, from Normal Vezax is looking mighty sexy, especially with all that hit (I still need to gem for it, in nearly full 213...). Still only a slight upgrade, even with the socket.
