Unexpected crashes and downtime hit multiple servers
A sudden wave of crashes has hit the North American WoW servers, with the Emberstorm and Whirlwind Battlegroups especially hard hit. As of this writing, most of the affected servers are still down. Blizzard is aware of the issue and is looking into it, but has no further information to give at this time. We'll update this post when we hear more.
UPDATE: According to Crygil, tonight's issue was out of Blizzard's control, but luckily things have resolved themselves. All realms should be up within the next half hour.
[Thanks to everyone who gave us a heads up!]
UPDATE: The 8 PM Pacific ETA has been removed from the original notice. This could be a long night.
UPDATE: 8 PM Pacific time is the current ETA for the return of the affected servers.

Wyrmrest Accord went down when I decided to go outside for once. You make one little change in your routine and this happens. Go figure. *shrug*

I hear that seattle still has power, and yet Blizz says a Power outage killed the Battle groups
Ugru May 18th 2009 10:56PM
I believe Monican called it a "service outage," not a power outage.

yes Seattle is the location of a company named Interlap that took over Ops for AT&t in march 2009 and is responsible for the major lag on these realms boasting full recoverability and security measures has failed from the start. time for blizzard to step in and step it up for all its paying customers that dont pay for lag and down time. its been 2 months since ive seen descent latency on the realm and now we know the culprit someone needs to take ownership of the problem and restify it now bladefist unite

It was great! We were all logging on, invites were going to go out in 7 minutes, and we were ready to go ahead and down Yogg-Saron25 after our progress from the night before. Time to start over again.
