A trick I've picked up during Ignis, is timing my Killing Spree for when he Flame Jets. If the tank is moving him, Ignis may be ahead of you while your flying in the air. I use a killing spree and it will throw me right back onto Ignis. There is the odd chance I might step onto an add with it, but so far that hasn't been a problem.
