Seals? In MY purse? It's more likely than you think
Amidst all of the cost rebalancing for Champion-level rewards in the Argent Tournament, the CMs have indicated that there would soon be new ways to obtain Champion's Seals. With the advent of patch 3.1.2, it seems Blizzard has started to follow through on that!
We received a bunch of tips in the mail over the past day or so, all letting us know that their Champion's Purses -- one of the reward choices for Champion dailies -- could randomly contain a whole 'nother Champion's Seal. This is a pretty big deal, especially since you have multiple chances per day. Players are reporting the percentage to be somewhere between 25% to 50% per Purse.
Not too shabby! This also means that those mounts you want -- including the recently-reduced Argent Hippogyph -- might be a little more within your reach, and faster at that.
We'll keep you informed of changes sure to be forthcoming, given that the CMs also mentioned that the Hippogryph cost reduction was (in part) due to their desire to add even more rewards in future patches.

This put a whole new calculus in play for those of us who aren't exalted with everyone yet - it used to be an easy choice, b/c what's 10 g, really? Now we have to consider one hard to obtain resource against another hard to obtain resource....
Karilyn May 20th 2009 8:34PM
It shouldn't be that hard of a choice, especially considering Bornakk mentioned that people will be able to do Valiant quests after becoming champions with all 5 factions... soon (tm)
liu May 20th 2009 8:36PM
Interesting - I didn't see that they're going to allow that. Thanks for mentioning it!

Take the coin purse! No matter what! If you really want to get exalted with the other factions you can always just head back to their starting areas and knock off a few of their quests. Even the easiest and most nubly quests (Kill 6 boars!) give 250 rep.

What's 10g? I'm glad you asked.
10g is an ADDITIONAL amount to the regular quest give in. There are 4 in there, right? So that's really 40g. Every day. 1240g EXTRA a month just for doing the regular daily your going to turn in anyway. That's what 10g is.
And by god I hope your not getting the faction tokens! There is no reason to rush the vailiants, and you can grind them all up very quickly with those quests, plus if you just go to that cities starting area, you'll find a mountain of quests where you can finish the whole zone in 30 minutes, netting thousands of rep that way, plus upping your quest count.

My luck must be on vacation. I was exalted with all factions before the tournament started so I have always chosen the bags.
12 bags now since the patch and not one extra seal... :(
Thrid May 20th 2009 8:12PM
Very nice, another reason to do the dailies.

I thought that picture was epic.
I have always loved stupid puns.

Yeah, I also have to comment on the fabulous google-image-searched seal purse. Well played. ;)
This is an awesome addition, looking forward to getting my faction pets that much faster!

The seal face looks like someone cut the head off of a Beanie Baby to make that... :-(

If I recall correctly, Bornakk did NOT say that valiant quests would be offered after becoming a champion, he simply stated that those who hold off turning in the champion quest for their 5th faction are able to do more dailies than those who turn it in, and that they were working on a way to even the difference.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but he didn't say that they'd make the quests available.
Task May 20th 2009 8:43PM
Lang, I think you are right but this is just for the Champion status only when we get those gold pouches. And as for doing the final faction, I just toss away the Valiant seals and keep redoing them until they announce something guaranteed and concrete.
More gold = more dailies :P

I wish they would introduce a new method of attaining Champion rank cus I can't joust worth a damn.
It's frustrating to me to me to be as face-meltingly uber as I am but unable to represent my faction as a Champion because I can't push an NPC off his horse with a stick while mounted.
I hate not being able to participate in an aspect of the game but try as I might I just can't L2Joust.

Rich,
You CAN do it. Don't give up. You just have to learn to do it right and practice it a little. I'm not going to be a blow hard and tell you it's easy or any of that. It was hard at first and for 3 days I gave up. But I'm stubborn and pissy and I WANT some of the pets and mounts so I made myself go back. This video helped me a lot, and if it doesn't work for you, look up some more and watch them. There are several good ones. You can do it. Just keep trying. It gets a little easier each time. Even if the re-open the Valiant chain of dailies again, I won't touch them with a ten-foot pole. While some of the quests were overlapping and easy to complete at the same time as the Champion ones, some of them were annoyingly frustrating (forcing you to go outside of Icecrown to find some weapon) and extra jousting (in the smaller annoying ring that had too many people crowded into it usually). I'm champion with all five Alliance factions and I won't be looking back. Not having to do Valiant stuff shaved a good 25 minutes off my dailies between the extra jousting and the travel time to and from various zones for the weapon quest.
Yes, it's a nice source of cash. I get that. But I wish people would quit QQing for those and just find other dailies to go do instead. There are plenty of really easy ones all over Azeroth that take less effort and don't pay horribly.
In response to Rich, jousting is doable, if not frustrating. The basic method I use is bash the crap out of them with the stick until they walk away, then use a shield breaker, and run to catch up with them before they can shield break you or charge you. Beat on them for a little while when they're only at 2 shields (1300 per hit instead of 325). It's slower than the more aggressive methods involving charging and getting out of their range and risking they shield break you, but it almost *never* fails. In fact, it's never actually failed me. The only times I've lost using that method are if I forgot to heal between jousts, or when the game has glitched and someone else's champion started attacking me and I got double-teamed (that just happened to me for the first time yesterday). Oh, and there's also the glitch where the champion you're jousting will just run out of range for no reason and end the match prematurely. That's also lovely. Just make sure you never let your shields get below the maximum, if you can avoid it. I found it also takes some time to learn to fight with people constantly running through you and your target in the rings. But it is doable.

Well I'll be doing dailies as much as I can because of this announcement... :D
zero May 20th 2009 8:40PM
i'd bet they eventually add dragonhawk and frostwyrm mounts.
Craig R May 20th 2009 9:05PM
you know, because the dragonhawks and frostwyrms they already added aren't good enough.
Quidamtyra May 20th 2009 9:42PM
I was surprised to hear the "ting" of a Seal landing in monies =p
Out of the four bags I got one Seal, so in that tiny sample it was a 25% drop rate.
Pretty nice for those of us already exalted with all our home-city factions.
Luisette May 20th 2009 9:27PM
Cheers! This is great news, indeed.
