Welcome to WoW.com!

Ladies! Gentlemen! Children of all ages! We, the writers, editors, and innocent bystanders at WoW Insider would like to welcome you all to our new home: WoW.com.
Our new domain serves a broader purpose than saving your typing fingers a few characters, though. You've probably already noticed our new, more streamlined design -- all the better for providing you with more content and less clutter. But in addition to the content you all know and (hopefully) love, we'd like to introduce you to the beta launch of WoW.com Profiles. By creating a profile on WoW.com you can:
- show off your characters
- make blog posts & galleries to share with others
- communicate with your guild & your friends
- let everyone know what you're up to in the game we all love
- by downloading the WoW.com addon (for PC or Mac), you can also keep all of your friends up to date on what you're doing in game -- and make blog posts and upload screenshots directly from your game client.
Please remember, WoW.com Profiles are still in beta -- while we already have lots of ideas for the future, we want to hear from you about what we're doing wrong (or right!) to help us improve it. And before you even start protesting, we're aware that Profiles currently only work with characters in the US armory. (Though, to readers not on US servers, you can certainly create an account and participate on WoW.com Profiles -- you just aren't able to add characters. We're starting small with this beta run, but hope to have the ability for everyone to join us soon!)
Thank you to all of our readers for your support and unbridled enthusiasm over the years! Though the site may have changed, the WoW Insider content you're all familiar with isn't going anywhere. As WoW.com we plan on continuing to provide you with the latest news and community from the World of Warcraft.

WOAH! You guys got WoW.com
Matazuma May 20th 2009 12:21AM
Woah!
WoW.com someone is gonna get CnD'ed
kuri May 20th 2009 12:47AM
I was pondering the same thing. You can argue WoW could refer to anything, but it's pretty blatantly tied to World of Warcraft's IP. Curious to see how this unfolds with all the CnD letters going out lately.
Although, Activision does have a tendency to let things slide past litigation if the benefits outweigh the costs. But with WoW.com so new, they might nip it at the bud. Oh, this will be an interesting week.

My guess is that Blizzard may not have actually registered "WoW" as a trademark. If so, then http://www.wow.com/ is probably legitimate. Just because WoW is the most common abbreviation of World of Warcraft doesn't mean they necessarily have any rights to that word.
Riley May 20th 2009 2:27AM
You do remember it used to be called wowinsider, right? this is no different, it's just a domain name
Todd May 20th 2009 4:27AM
Well considering Wowinsider / wow.com is owned by AOL-Time Warner I seriously doubt they really have to worry about legal issues. TW's legal dept is far larger than ActiBlizz's and I'm sure they have to run any big changes like this past their legal before going live.
Ryan May 20th 2009 9:30AM
You can't trademark a word like wow. If they did every time me and you saw something amazing and went ....wow....thats cool we would be paying Blizzard lol. That's like when Donald Trump tried to trademark your fired!
Keith May 20th 2009 5:04PM
You can register "WOW" as a trademark, and indeed, Blizzard have filed for a registration in the field of online computer games and ancilliary activities such as giving game tips. (other companies have trademarks on WOW in other fields of business)
AOL aren't stupid, so I assume they're licensing the mark (or have made arrangements for licencing it when Blizzard actually receive the registration of it)
Mattimus May 20th 2009 12:22AM
Haroo...? This is gonna take some getting used to.
Gary May 20th 2009 12:26AM
Why can't I see comments?
Richard May 20th 2009 12:24AM
I had to do a doubletake when the site first loaded - I tought I'd typed it in wrong and was redirected.
The sight looks nice, the colour scheme is better on my eyes.
Tensai May 20th 2009 12:24AM
Wow... color me impressed. no clue this was about to happen.
Love the new site and can't wait to try out the add-on.
