In regards to the low number of level 80 alts, I think a surprising amount of people have alts at that level already. I know of at least one person formerly in my guild who had 5 level 80s, and many of our raiders have at least one max level alt. There's also the Death Knight factor, which makes it easier to have a leveled alt.

Essentially, this is all just saying that uncertainty over the data is more certain.
