Phat Loot Phriday: Porcelain Bell

Name: Porcelain Bell (Wowhead, Thottbot, Armory)
Type: Poor Salvage Item
Damage/Speed: N/A
Attributes:
- Embellished with a figure reaching toward a swan. This is a grey piece of vendor trash, probably the worst quality item we've ever featured here.
- Wait a minute Mike, I can hear you saying, this is supposed to be Phat Loot Phriday. Why are you showing us a piece of vendor junk? Because, my friends, in the eyes of the vendors, this little bell is worth more than the Warglaives of Azzinoth combined (and you could even throw in Thori'dal, too). Yes, this little bell sells to vendors for... wait for it... 100g.
- Indeed. If you're lucky enough to get this out of a bag that smells like fish (see below), congrats, you've gotten a nice gold bonus from Blizzard. This item exists for no reason but to be sold, and when you do sell it, it'll net you a century of gold.
- It's BoE (or whatever the equivalent of Poor BoE is) too, so you can give it away or even sell it across the cross-faction AH to move some gold easily. Be careful, though - if you do try to sell it for cheap, there's always the chance that someone else will swoop in and buy it. Or, if you want to be sneaky, you could watch out on the AH for exactly this, and ninja one of these out from underneath traders. Seller beware.
Getting Rid of It: Sells to vendors for 100g. Haven't you been listening? Doesn't disenchant, and there's no real reason to keep it in the bank. Unless you just have more money than you need, and want to save it for a rainy day (or a nice gift -- I'd like to see one of these in my inbox on my birthday).

I have one of these sitting in my bank, just in case I run out of money. Which happens often...

I love when I get one of these, it's basically a free 100g!
Never thought of sending it to someone on their b-day, though. Good idea!

I have two of these sitting in my bank for a rainy day

My wife just got this from her Daily yesterday. Not that she needs the money in the least...

Phat Loot?! Hardly.. Phat disappointment is more accurate... with all the great items you can get from that fishing bag you single out a junk piece? So what if it's worth 100g, it's still a useless item. Give me a gem, a fishing pole, a pet or something I can I use, something to show for weeks of crappy fishing quests that more often result in oil, fish, broken glass or... a stinkin' bell.
And... if someone sent me a grey item for my birthday, regardless of the value, it would be seen as what it is... Gee, Thanks for the piece of junk!

I have to disagree. I was quite surprised and pleased when I received my porcelain bell from my fish bag. If someone were to send me one as a gift, I would be very grateful for receiving it. I wouldn't judge the gift simply because it's gray. Don't forget that these types of items are valued by some players who enjoy the RP side of the game.
Some of the coolest items in the game are not purple.

Fine, if you ever get this Bell, send it to me, I'll take it off your hands and enjoy being 100g richer while you're not 100g richer.
Kole May 22nd 2009 7:34PM
Much like your response...junk. STFU and go away.
Rakeesh May 22nd 2009 7:34PM
Oh, so you're saying you'd rather get, say a 20g gem instead of a 100g grey item that could buy you 5 20g gems..... Your logic is astounding!

The claim that anything you get that isn't what you want is worthless is a logical fallacy. Just because it's not the Jeweled Fishing Pole (that I got yesterday and is awesome *cough*) doesn't mean 100g is bad. I mean it's no Whale Statue, that's for sure...

This makes me think I should fish more. I've been languishing around 265 for awhile. :( With things like this bell and the turtle mount and whatever else you can get from fishing, I should just kick back with a dew in hand and fish for an afternoon.
Bleuchz May 22nd 2009 7:47PM
Don't quote me on this, but can't you do the fishing dailies with
Roberto May 23rd 2009 10:09AM
Actually you can (I've done it with 185 fishing).
They changed fishing so that you can fish anywhere at any level. However, the lower your level, the higher chance that you'll fish junk instead of whatever can be fished in the spot, and at that level it will take a while to get daily fishing done since most your catches will be junk that don't count towards the quests goals.

This is a great piece for average player to know about. More than likely, most people are going to vendor it because it is a grey item and not even notice it's worth 100g to the vendor until after they look at their gold and realize they have more than they thought they would have. Trust me... I've done this many a times. Also, Wonk, stop being such a negative ninny. I think this constitutes as a piece of Phat Loot because 100g for doing basically nothing is pretty "phat." Grats to anyone who gets this fun little item.

"or whatever the equivalent of Poor BoE is"
Umm, an unequippable item is BoE, eh?
I think it's just called junk. Valuable, yes, but it's still just considered junk.
Physis May 23rd 2009 3:59PM
I don't know why he was downrated (other than perhaps his semi-rude tone). What he says is right. An object that doesn't bind at all it not a Bind-on-Equip (BoE). It has an acronym of its own, SNOT (Soulbinding? Nope, it's Only Trash).
kierkus May 23rd 2009 4:03PM
heh, didn't even know i was downranked until you replied Physis :) Yeah, cant BoE if ya can't E.
offday May 22nd 2009 8:32PM
I got this the other day and sold it thinking I'd get a couple silver. I couldn't believe it was worth 100 g.
Ben May 22nd 2009 9:09PM
Poor Wonk getting downrated for making sense.
As amusing as a gray selling for 100g is... I'd hardly call it phat loot compared to the other potential rewards, such as a stormjewel, pet, or fishing pole. If all you're concerned with is monetary gain, the stormjewels sell for MUCH more on the auction house.
Zach May 23rd 2009 12:29AM
You get downrated because you miss the point. The Porcelain Bell is the most expensive gray item in the game. The fact that it sells for more than pretty much any epic item is a pretty cool thing. Phat Loot Fridays looks at a wide spectrum of game items, not all of them necessarily awesome weapons or pieces of armor.
