Ghostcrawler hints at another patch before patch 3.2
With many of the major features of patch 3.2 having been announced, and a lot of people already somewhat bored with patch 3.1 content, and with the new dungeon/raid instance being a relatively simple "arena" format, many have been hoping that we'll see a 3.2 PTR soon. However, it looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer than hoped. In a recent post regarding adjustments to Druid set bonuses, Ghostcrawler let slip that a change would be coming "long before 3.2."
While it's possible this could just be slipped in with other hotfixes, it does seem to imply that we can expect another bug fix and minor balance tweaking patch before 3.2 hits the servers. Of course, this is probably good news for those hoping for adjustments and fixes for their class or spec, but for those who just want more new stuff to do: Well, sorry, you may have to make those ulduar trips or Argent Tournament dailies last just a bit longer.

will it be possible to kill a tree druid in arena now?
Jm May 24th 2009 8:19PM
Could you explain me why they are so OP in arenas atm??
thanks!!
Taladan May 24th 2009 8:31PM
@Jm: Their HoTs are amazing, they have a very large mana pool and, depending on the situation, they can simply switch forms and add DPS or hold a lot of damage.
Not many classes can do all that.
Honestly, if in arenas switching forms would cost a lot more mana (let's say, 30% of the mana pool), then things would be a little bit more balanced, IMHO.

They are resistance to roots, snares, and many CCs.
Joester May 26th 2009 9:23AM
as GC would say, "working as intended"

"for those who just want more new stuff to do: Well, sorry, you may have to make those ulduar trips or Argent Tournament dailies last just a bit longer."
For those that already don't have it, here is a small list of things you can do:
* Get a netherdrake
* Beat Captain Skyshatter
* Get exalted with Ogri'la
* Get the Mana Tombs achievement
* Get the Dark Temple achievement (believe me, that raid is awesome)
* Jenkins title
Well, yeah, it won't keep you busy forever, but it's a small list of old things I finally did and found amusing.
Taladan May 24th 2009 8:33PM
Oh, oh!
* Get the tiger mount in Zul'Gurub.
or, if you are more PvP oriented
* Get the Conqueror title.
* Get the "of the Horde"/"of the Alliance" title.

You mean BLACK temple, surely?
Hmm...belfs...
Kemikalkadet May 24th 2009 9:44PM
The Sceptre quest chain is probably the best time filler in the game.. specially getting neutral with brood.
danawhitaker May 24th 2009 10:54PM
I've done a good chunk of those things. But a lot of those things are fairly easy (rep with the Netherdrake people, Jenkins title (I had a friend who soloed that), Ogri'la to exalted (not something you can grind since you can only do a certain # of quests per day which give rep). Mana-Tombs? That's not even hard on regular or heroic, I don't know many people at 80 who have NOT been through there. I haven't done Black Temple yet, mainly because there are no groups going at the time of night I can actually get on and DO group stuff. For some reason everyone on Hydraxis loves to run Black Temple smack in the middle of the day. I have tons of things i want and need to do on my character, but the problem is, I can see how you'd be sitting around twiddling your thumbs if you'd either done all that (anyone who got to 70 pre-LK had a lot time to mess around with most of the stuff you mentioned already), or had no interest in it.
If you're in the middle ground where you aren't in a guild that's really ready to raid, and that can't help you get geared to do basic raids like Naxx-10 even in PUG, you are at this weird point where there's *not* much to do except Cooking/Fishing dailies and Argent Tourney. I'm lucky, because I can occupy myself almost endlessly with trying to grind rep to get 40 exalted factions.
Let's face it, Argent Tourney is, for the most part, boring. The rewards themselves are good, but the daily routine is *so* mundane (and drawn out for so long when you're stuck doing Valiant quests too) that a lot of people want no part of it. It's only holding my attention because I want the rewards. If you get people who do not care about the pet and mount and tabard achievements, and who are already geared in better items than what are offered, it's a total waste of time.
Even though raiding is more inclusive now, Ulduar still isn't on the plate for a lot of players. And it's also more difficult to get Ulduar-geared because a lot of people aren't bothering to run the content to *get* people Ulduar-geared. I wouldn't even ask to go to 10 after looking at my analysis on WoW-heroes. I would feel like the entire group was carrying me because I"m undergeared. If you jumped from 70-80 right after LK launched, and had a lot of time to run Naxx before Ulduar came out, you don't likely have to worry about that. But for those of us who just got Naxx-ready right before Ulduar came out..yeah, not much for us to do there either. Of course, this all hinges on the fact that WoW-heroes is accurate and not lying to me about the fact that I'm supposed to be running Naxx and OS-10 right now.
Ultimately, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. That is to say, you can offer all the achievements in the world, some people are still not going to give a crap about reputation and running old instances and raids and other things that *are* great time killers. Some players like to run classic content, others don't. You can't force that boat of people to start doing that any more easily than you could try and convince the people who enjoy doing it to stop. So what we are left with is a pretty awkward place in the game right now for a lot of level 80s. Even with my infinite patience at times for rep grinding, I'll admit when I log on and finish my dailies there's a *huge* feeling of "Well now what?"
Taladan May 24th 2009 11:16PM
@danawhitaker: Well, most of the points are not "get achievement"; they are in sense of "have fun"/"amaze yourself" doing them.
Mana Tombs is FUN. It's simple and straightforward, no ridiculous dances or some other shit. Go there, kill stuff mindlessly, have fun. And the dungeon have a good design too, something I haven't found in ANY Northrend dungeons.
Black Temple (and thanks Agerath for correcting me) is amazing to the point that you feel you're part of the lore. No bullshit "go there and kill sutff". I reckon it could be a little bit tiring seeing Illidan give the same speech week after week, but at least it isn't the boredom of killing Kel'Thuzad over and over again with nothing changing. When you finish it the first time, you get really amazed with what you saw there.
Nothing (and I repeat, NOTHING) amazed me in Naxx. They are so bland and boring it's not even fun. I'm not saying that battle-wise, but... erm... "happening-wise". Blizzard seems to recognize that dungeons and raids are, now, just a bunch of gear running and, thus, they don't need to put anything to amaze people. I'd surely run Black Temple again to see Illidan and his speech again, but in all honestly, the only thing that drives me to Naxx is gear. And only that.
Same goes to the Netherdrake, 'cause there is a small bit happening just after you get Exalted.
Bananacup May 25th 2009 6:17AM
A good way to keep yourself occupied between raids is going for the 50 mounts, 100 mounts or 50 pets achievements.
Bikhai May 24th 2009 10:22PM
Seems kinda ADD to be bored with Ulduar already. The world first of Algalon just went down not too long ago. A vast majority of players outside of the top guilds haven't even completed Ulduar up to Yogg-Saron yet. IDK, just seems like this Gimme Gimme mentality is getting a little overplayed.
Neirin May 25th 2009 3:40AM
Gimme Gimme = GG? =)
Seriously though, I know what you mean. Hell, even if you are in that top few % have they forgotten how dull Naxx was not that long ago? Ulduar is head and shoulders above Naxx in terms of how interesting and dynamic it is.
SaintStryfe May 24th 2009 8:48PM
who the hell has worn our Ulduar?
Damned ADD addled children, it's like they can't take any time to just enjoy things, it just must be consume new new now now.
Procris May 24th 2009 9:58PM
I'd agree with you but some people like to do more than just raid all the time. New 5 mans and daily quests can keep people entertained while they aren't raiding.
Personally speaking, my guild has a lot more Ulduar to do (especially nailing hardmodes down) but when i'm not raiding, i go back to leveling an alt because i've done almost everything else there is to do at 80. (Reputations -done, Argent tournament champion with every faction done ect...)
Neirin May 25th 2009 3:38AM
as usual, SaintStryfe, your comments are exactly what I'm thinking. Seriously, only Ensidia (as far as I know) has downed Algalon 25, and no one has done 10 man Algalon.
For non-raiders I can kinda see what they're saying - the Argent tourney is very repetitive, but I'm sure whatever you filled your time with before 3.1 will still work now.
Kendras May 25th 2009 4:11AM
Ensidia did Algalon 10 man, if you look at the WoW.com post a week or so ago (Not exactly sure) it shows them with the Starcaller title, not the Astral Walker.
Veknir May 25th 2009 7:49AM
Most raiders don't spend all the time they are logged on raiding and frankly, I find there's very little to do while I'm not raiding.
A trend I've noticed among my guildies since WotLK is that more and more only log on a bit before raidtime so they can prepare for the raid (get/make flasks, food and repair) and log off once the raid's over. Most did the Tournament dailies while they were new and got their Crusader title (if they care about the achievements or the title at all).
But what is there to do beyond that? We saw all TBC and older 5mans while we were leveling, by now I've gone through all vanilla raids and I did the TBC ones while I was 70 (Sunwell up to and including Felmyst) and while it's still fun to go to TK, BT or some other TBC raid it's just not the same. Most bosses can just be zerged without regard for the tactics taking out a lot of the fun of actually doing that boss.
WotLK 5mans are a chore, maybe I'm just on a sucky server but it's so stupidly hard to find a group for any of the more interesting 5mans that it often isn't worth bothering with (insane fun spending 2-3hours completing a group for Oculus only to have it fall apart after 30minutes of "Additional instances cannot be loaded"). I blame the sheer lack of useful rewards for raiders (which nowadays is about everybody anyway) for much of the lack of interest, gear up in heroics, jump into Naxx10, pug Naxx25 a few times and there's no more reason to do heroics (except to maybe gear up guildies).
Battlegrounds are another pain in the ass. Class balance is so totally screwed up it's not even funny anymore. Usually the games end in a gankfest, which isn't fun whether you are on the receiving end or the dealing end, unless you're only farming HKs I suppose. That is, if you are lucky, because half the time Horde starts with a lot less players than alliance in our battlegroup (appropriately named "Misery"), usually resulting in a lost game before the numbers finally even out. But hey, we all know only arena really matters anyway, right?
So, what do we have left. Leveling alts I suppose. Besides learning the particulars of a new class this suffers from much the same problems as the mains. Finding groups for instances while leveling is nigh impossible, everybody seems to either get boosted or zerg his way to 80. You've seen most of the quests before, of course you will be going to different zones than you did the first time (right?) but there's only so many zones (or alts) you can go through before you end up doing the same quests again, and again...
