WoW Moviewatch: Why can't I raid?
You may remember Taintedlore from her remake of The Womanizer Song. She's hooked up with movie maker Leonnardum to create a new parody video, called Why can't I raid? If you don't recognize the music, it's based of Rihanna's song, Unfaithful.
The video's pretty solid, and does a nice job of complimenting the lyrics. I like how Leonnardum has found little visual queues to match Taintedlore's singing, without overwhelming the music with complex visuals. What really struck me about the final piece, however, was the use of modulation with Taintedlore's singing. She seems to have a great voice, and I like hearing her sing. I don't understand is why her voice is going through the electronic modulation, since it didn't appear in the original song. I'd like to hear her real voice. Though, as always, it's possible some artistic technique flew over my head, and I should get why it's in the synthetic style.
Overall, I continue to be interested in Taintedlore's work, and I would definitely like to see more from Leonnardum going forward.

I like the video and the adaptation of the song is funny and well-done, but I agree - what's with the modulation? It would have not only been more enjoyable, but a tad bit funnier if the voice track had just been her signing.

The modulation is a device effect called an auto-tune. It is used to mask pitch and vocal inaccuracies in recordings. She may have decent voice, but the modulation is what makes it sound like her singing is flawless. Because of everyone's reaction, the auto-tune has done it's job. Recording artists have used auto-tune to this same effect.

Every time Auto Tune is audible a tiny rock star loses it's wings.

Gigi couldn't hold a candle to this girl.
However, I agree with the comments about the modulator/auto-tune. Not just in this song, but it's way over-used in a lot of music these days. Someday, we'll all look back at this period and sadly shake our heads at the excessive usage of voice 'tuning'.

I got the impression, after listening to mebbe the first 30 seconds, that the mods were all coming at about the same reliable times. It seemed like it was covering up what Leonnardum must have thought were less than fabulous shifts in tone. Mebbe Tainted was flat or sharp, or didn't quite get the timing right, or weakened sound, or got too "artsy" or "not artsy enough."
If it's true that it was used in this instance to "hide" Taintedlore's inaccuracies, then it may be a matter of control (and practice), or simply a personal disagreement about singing styles. Leonnardum got the final call on that.
It was definitely used too much. It works nicely in songs where it's used as an accent, but in this particular vid it was more the norm than vocal spotlight. Professional abuse of something like auto-tune would just come back to bite the industry in the rear, though; if your performers can't master their voices, they'll be no different than hobby singers (like myself, lol). Studios have a variety of ways of getting around high recording fees as it is, auto-tune would be the unwise man's way out.

I really enjoyed this one and know exactly how that feels. I'm not high enough level to get into the raids my guild runs. Or I don't have enough exp.
And the modulation didn't bother me at all. A lot of singers use it now. Keep up the good work you two. Great team!

Like I said on WCM, quite bad machinimation but zomg - even though I have no understanding for this kind of music, the singstress is great. This is the best (female) singing I've heard on a fan-made song.
As for the machinimator - there's huge amounts of stuff to improve. Some nice ideas here and there, but the actual execution needs work. Practice makes perfect!

why would you be spending all your gold on elixer's (lol who uses elixer's these days anyways?), and buff food when you never have the chance to use them every night? plot hole much?

"My rogue feels her pain... he's never seen any raid content past Curator"
it's been my observation that raiding guilds tend to try and bring the best players that they have on, and fill out the rest of the raid with their "carried" players (because 800 dps is better than 0 dps. amirite?(tho said 800 dps players usually die within 10 seconds of a trash/boss pull so it's still 0 dps. amirite?)). if your in a guild that never brings you to a raid i would suggest /gquiting finding a guild that's more on your level. you might not be raiding uilduar, but atleast you'll be doing something.
