The Queue: Sometimes you just want to be a superhero
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
Preambles are for suckers. Let's get this party started.
Anarax asked...
"Okay well, I have a bunch of friends and apparently they think City of Heroes is 10x better than WoW. How can I get them to change their minds over to WoW? The main reason I want them to play is because I plan to make a reroll Hardcore Raiding Guild, in June, and it's always good to have a small group of players to start with. The problem is though that one of them tried out WoW and is actually influencing the others, telling them that WoW is "too repetitive, too serious, and full of rage." He is the one telling the others to play CoH."
The evil voice at the back of my head wants me to say, "If he's saying WoW is more repetitive than City of Heroes, he's a lost cause. Put him down, for he has gone mad." That evil voice hasn't played City of Heroes since launch, by the way. You want repetition? Play City of Heroes as it was in the beginning. Eugh.
But I'm sure it's not that way now, it has probably seen a lot of improvements if it's still around and going strong after this many years. The fact is, you can't really sway someone away from their MMO of choice, especially if it's across genre lines. Maybe they just want to play superhero and not knight-in-shining-armor. It's unlikely that they'll switch. The only recommendation I can give you is tell them about the free trials and the Refer-a-Friend system. Maybe they'll give it a try for a few days. If they like it, great. If they don't like it... eh. There's not much you can do.
I gotta admit, super jumping around the world was pretty sweet.

"So I am trying to complete the Northern Exposure achievement and remembered an awesome map you guys posted showing all the locations in Northrend. However since the big wow.com switch it doesn't come up when you click the link in the article. Any chance I could get a link to where it is on the internet (I can't find it on google) or maybe you guys could repost it. Thanks."
Sure thing. Here you go.
Amberlee asked...
"The Ulduar achievement mounts - Will these mounts be removed similar to the way the Naxxramas 310% achievement mounts were removed? Does that mean we only have until the next patch to get all the hard mode achievements done? YIKES! What's the timeline on this?"
We don't really know yet. Nothing has been said, and all that we have to go on is our own speculation. Here is my speculation: I suspect the Coliseum will be supplemental content for Tier 8, and not a full new tier of gear. So I don't think patch 3.2 will remove the new protodrakes. Patch 3.3 will probably do that. That's only my thoughts on the subject, however. I could be wrong. Please don't base your raid progression on my guess, because that's all that it is. A guess.
Marc asked...
"Awhile ago I remember reading that the Inscription profession would eventually let you unlock a fourth major glyph slot. Did this ever get implemented in the game? Was it removed? Or was I just having one of those wild WoW dreams again."
This was something that Blizzard discussed doing, but ultimately decided against it. A fourth major glyph slot for Inscription would've been pretty crazy, and the benefit would've varied wildly from class to class. Some classes would gain huge benefits, others would be marginal. They don't like classes being able to use every glyph they want to use, either. They like the fact that you need to make tough choices about your glyphs, and a fourth Major slot nullified that. They dropped that idea, and they did the awesome Inscription shoulder enchants instead.
dave asked...
"Why is it that it takes me 3 shots to kill a Boneguard Scout in the tournament dailies on my warrior, when in pre 3.1 I did them on my mage and it only took 2. Everything else I kill seems normal, but after 2 shots they are still have ~10% health left. Do the argent tournament mounts scale with gear now?"
As mentioned in the comments yesterday by audawak, you're probably in Defensive Stance. Even while on those mounts, stances have an impact on damage dealt and received. Make sure you switch to Battle Stance (or Berserker Stance if you're so inclined) before you start your jousting. I believe this works with similar things as well, like Death Knight presences or a Protection Paladin's Righteous Fury.

quick question how come lvl 40 trainers can teach you a move that requires lvl 80?
skreeran May 26th 2009 7:25PM
Because just because you know how to do something doesn't mean you're awesome enough to do it.
Fact is, your trainers are script-kiddies.
Docp May 26th 2009 7:28PM
There's a difference between being able to teach something and use it. Most professional sportsmen have trainers, but this doesn't mean the trainers are better than the professionals just they're able to advise because they know it in theory.

I recently took a refreshing break from the game. The guild I had been in dissolved unfortunately but I'm enjoying the solo content the game has to offer. My personal favorite being Battlegrounds. However, when looking for some PvP gear to spend my honor on I noticed that there were no weapons that are PvP geared available for just honor. All seemed to have an arena requirement. I'm not interested in arena but would like to gear my Balance Druid out for PvP as best I can. What sort of options are there for players looking to get solid PvP gear from only Battlegrounds; weapons in particular. Are there any plans to put weapons purchased with just honor in place like they did during the BC arena seasons?
Zamn May 26th 2009 7:48PM
I think craftable epics are your best choice, for a Balance Druid, try
Titansteel Guardian - http://www.wowhead.com/?item=41384
or
Titansteel Spellblade - http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45085

I saw a post by Tigole a while back where he said they probably would not be adding PvP weapons exclusively for honor. They believe if you are really into PvP, you will do Arena and then have the choice of using a PvP weapon if you do well. They don't believe weapons specifically for PvP are required to do well in PvP. The example they gave was in Season 5 people using raid weapons had no problem getting high rankings. Basically, don't count on ever seeing PvP weapons for honor.
Now, I think they will eventually add some PvP weapons with low rating requirements for the later seasons like season 7 or 8. These would be similar to Hateful set today where you need just a little bit of honor and some honor points. Even with just a casual arena team (10 games per week), you would be able to get these in just a few weeks.

Edit: should be "...just a little honor and some arena points..."

Also, check your aspect if you're a hunter... aspect of the viper will destroy you

Been there, done that, have the t-shirt. ^^
Rylka May 26th 2009 9:49PM
This is very true. Doing the Commander quests while accidentally leaving on Aspect of the Viper is extremely painful.
Gemini May 27th 2009 3:06AM
I solo'd a commander before realizing I'd had AotV on the whole time.
Peacebone May 26th 2009 7:27PM
why can't we wear tabards to get rep gains from raids? is there any specific reason?
Jay May 26th 2009 7:32PM
If you could gain tabard rep from raids, then people would skip past level 80 heroics that much faster.
I believe that was the essence of the official response from Blizzard.
badjoke May 26th 2009 7:48PM
You'd get exalted way too quickly. Enjoy the challenge.
Nathan May 26th 2009 10:57PM
Because nobody lets you into a raid or a raiding guild if you aren't already exalted with every faction in Northrend. If you still need reputation points, odds are good that the raiding jerks are telling you to get bent, so no point in being able to gain reputation in the raid itself.
Lemons May 26th 2009 11:39PM
Repping up Wrath factions is already insultingly easy. I was exalted with every single faction in Northrend a month after release. Making rep tabard work in raids would encourage people to skip over Heroics and jump straight into Naxx and OS...something that too many people do already.
Wyred May 27th 2009 3:09AM
@Nathan: I have never seen exalted with any faction, let alone all, as something that any raiding guild requires. Maybe Sons of Hodir, but even that usually not. Got rejected recently perhaps?

I have a bug ingame where when I'm using the vehicle UI, the UI is "zoomed in" to the point where I can't see vehicle casting bars. Also, it zooms my camera in a ton and I can't zoom out. I tried resetting my UI and deleting the WTF folder and such, but the problem is still there. Any idea on a fix?
devilsei May 26th 2009 9:32PM
I'm having the same issue, so it would be great to see an answer for this. It only started happening after the 3.1 patch too. I can't zoom out from the "vehicle's" (if you are riding, lets say, one of the Hodir for a quest about putting out fires, or riding a giant worm to take on a giant robot) arse. I've played with multiple settings and nothing has worked. Its annoying to the point of ruining it for me.
Rylka May 26th 2009 10:02PM
I wonder if it might have to do with the screen resolution/dimension settings.
I felt like an absolute noob-cicle when, after playing for more than a year, I learned that you could adjust the screen resolution in game. My display had been distorted slightly the whole time. I didn't know the mini-map was a circle. I thought it was a slight ellipse.
I have no idea if this might be the case or not, but perhaps there is a bug where the vehicle screens don't support all screen resolutions, and thus when you have WOW set to certain dimensions, the vehicle interfaces get zoomed in or cut off.
Again, no idea if this is true or not or if you tried messing around with those settings too.
