Algalon kill video from the Underground Kosmonavts
As you might have heard previously, the Underground Kosmonavts of EU-Ravencrest scored the World 2nd kill on the 10-man version of Algalon. Shortly after their kill they released a video of it, which has burning across the net. Algalon has been incredibly hyped, so it doesn't surprise me!
Now, I haven't done this fight, I won't pretend I have, and all that I've seen is this video, so take this as, essentially, me talking out of my rear end: This fight looks really easy compared to what I've seen of Ulduar so far. Quite honestly, it looks like a tank and spank compared to something like Mimiron. Not to mention his hard mode, which you need to do to get to Algalon in the first place. Maybe Algalon is Ulduar's Brutallus? Hopefully there are elements to the fight that don't show up on video very well (from the point of view of a Hunter especially), and what we're seeing isn't a good indicator of the whole encounter.
Of course, I really don't mean to trivialize the accomplishment here. These guys were the second guild in the world to down him, and I imagine that if it were as easy as the video makes it look, a lot more guilds would have done it by now. Great job, Kosmonavts.

From what I've heard, it's very healing-intensive.
And you also gotta make note that you only have an hour of every week to do it. If they made the fight incredibly hard, we'd probably not see a kill until the new content patch comes out honestly.
All I can tell is, they probably didn't claim that he'll "feed on your tears" because of him being hard. It's probably what people do if they failed to kill him for the week.
Not to mention the fact that 25-man has yet to be beaten yet.

And both 10man kills of Algalon was probably down with 10 people decked out in T8.5/BiS gear from Ulduar25.
Let me know when a 10man raid decked out in BiS 10man gear downs 10man Algalon...oh wait that will be never.

Holy tauren mother! It's made of stars...
Bubsa May 27th 2009 8:38PM
Fausts, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye
Fausts May 27th 2009 11:24PM
Yes, I'd like to hear it, Bubsa. Sing it for me.
"Daisy
Daisy,
give me your answer do.
I'm half crazy
all for the love of you.
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage.
But you'll look sweet upon the seat
of a bicycle built for two."
uncaringbear May 28th 2009 5:29AM
Ummm, Bubsa didn't really deserve to be down-ranked as he was also quoting from the same movie.
Fausts May 28th 2009 11:40AM
Don't vote Bubsa down! lol. I guess not all WoW fans are hip to classic sci-fi. The line Bubsa is quoting is the one HAL tells Dave when he refuses Dave's stern command to let him back on the ship. The big reason being that HAL has just killed everyone inside. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062622/quotes)
As for Algalon, he intends to do more then kill everyone. If he is allowed to complete his protocol, the entire planet will literally be reduced to atoms. Then again, he is doing it for a reason. It's hard to imagine, but there may things worse then just being atomized.
jjcoola998 May 28th 2009 12:45PM
I can't let you do that Fausts XD
Bubsa May 28th 2009 1:11PM
Like being down ranked
=(

We've seen some comments from Ensidia that suggest that "it's a good fight, but not as hard as Blizzard hyped it to be", the hardest part of the fight being the 1-hour timer, and that hard mode Mimiron appears to be the tightest encounter in Ulduar, to date.
Faze May 27th 2009 7:54PM
Holy crap, watch the DK main tank's health bar go up and down like crazy.
Quark1020 May 27th 2009 7:59PM
Its probably just hard in the sense that a simple mele swing from him takes like 75% of the tanks health. I think thats fine though, if raids only have an hour to kill him per week, it should be kept simple.

Not being a raider, this is what I took away from the video: Algalon hits hard. He has several AoE's that will damage the whole team, so have a healer be prepped for that. He spawns adds that, when killed create "black holes". I didn't notice anyone step into them, but I doubt they do anything nice. He can spirit shift people into another plane of existence, and that sort of thing is always a pain, even if it's manageable.
So, yes, it might be a tank and spank. But I doubt many people will be downing him on the first try at this point, and then you've got the timer, and the hamstrung ability to even attempt the fight. And I still want to see 25 man.
Also, PS: ranged DPS is a horrible way to judge a fight. It's easy street compared to melee, tanking, or healing. (no offense to our ranged brethren. I love you. You bring the damage and the AoE's. But you also have the best PoV.)

"Algalon hits hard. He has several AoE's that will damage the whole team"
Correct. He hits like a truck. His big nuke - "Big Bang" hits so hard. We though we had to avoid it at first. Alas no. It's another cooldown rotation fight.
Compared to Mim. It's a massive anticlimax for us. :(
tsan_rhilin May 27th 2009 8:45PM
I am sorry that it was a let down. =( As I said, I'm not a raider, so I haven't set foot in Ulduar, and I hope to see Mim soon (I have heard many a tale. He's becoming legendary). I LOVE puzzle fights. Tank and spank is easier for me, but still. You'd hope that a boss so difficult to get to would be a challenge.
Daigeil May 28th 2009 8:56AM
As regards to the black holes, check out 1:53 - you see several folks rushing towards them, just as Big Bang is being cast. I surmise that the holes do the shifting and save you from the damage of Big Bang. That's entirely based on what I see in the vidja, though, not personal experience.
Dymphna May 27th 2009 8:21PM
I'm seeing adds that spawn that probably need to be killed, and spawn black holes when they die, probably function as void zones.
Also I see a second type of add that gets call in that seem to do some kind of arcane missile type ability, they seem to negate the black holes and despawn themselves if they pass through the holes, so some have to be kited through them, or have some specific interaction with the black holes.
Thirdly, I see him start channeling a big spell (Big Bang I think it says) That everyone needs to run into one of the black holes to avoid (which has another kind of add while inside). Also looks like he calls down meteors that have to avoided by all the melee.
Uh yeah, that seems like more than enough for a raid to have to handle for a fight they only get one hour's of practice with. Plus he hits like a truck. By no means a simple 'tank and spank' There's a lot going on there.

For a different perspective on the fight, same try, we also released a video from one of the healers point of view. It can be found here:

I love these videos. I'm not a raider so will probably not get to see this content any other way, thanks.
When watching the healing video, I imagine you were all pretty calm and collected, but I like to imagine general panic. I can hear the tank screaming "HEAL ME!" like a baby everytime he gets smacked and the healers were spamming heals as if they were playing Track and Field.
"He's dying!!! Faster heals, faster, FASTER!!!" It's exhausting just watching it.
