Breakfast Topic: Heirloom excitement

In short, heirloom items rock. They rock so much, in fact, WoW.com user James Peripheral wrote in his blog about the very coolness of heirloom items. He mentions how, even at Level 5 (or Level 1 for that matter), a character can look absolutely dapper or "looking like he owns Eastern Plagulands". That seems to be a bonus of account-bound items -- they allow players to skip the clown phase of leveling. What's your take on heirloom gear? We know you all love them (if you don't, you probably have issues...), so tell us about your experience with them. Head on over to James' blog, too, to share your thoughts. Even better, why not write your heirloom experiences in your WoW.com account blog and tell others about them? We'd love to hear your hand-me-down stories.

That is a beautiful baby!
Ok back to the post, the heirloom items are great. I level very slowly becuase I don't play often. THese items help the porcess. Of course you do get tried of seeing the same item on your toon. The other thing is once in a while you get an item the is better stats then the heirloom and you just can't deside what is better.

Personally, i liked the idea of heirloom items when they were first introduced, i quickly spent badges and bought the shoulders for my mage and my shammy (both were around level 20-30) However, Something about having the same piece of gear for 80 levels, to me, seems like a bit of cheating and more so is incredibly boring. In the same way i find getting a new ring nowhere near as exciting as a cool shiny new sword or some armor plated leggings, looking the same for 80 levels (as many druids will tell you ;) ) is quite boring to me.
So, i put both pairs of shoulders in the bank. I like the xp bonus, but i find gearing up as i level one of the best parts of the game, so i don't use them anymore.
Im sure other people love them and i can see why, i would just like to have more xp (maybe increase the rest limit to 5 levels or something at a time?) without having to use certain gear that either makes me ridiculously powerful or look the same while apparently getting stronger.

This is why the game is great. Some people love to level and see the content they might have missed in some area, some people just want to get to the top and do... err... whatever we do.

Heirloom items rock. Being able to share my Tattered Dreadmist Mantle between three alts helps out leveling quite a bit, between the XP bonus and the scaling stats.
Now if only we could buy similiar items with all those Badges of Justice that are gathering dust.....

lol I even used mine on my rogue for the 10% xp bonus and was too lazy to buy a different pair of shoulders

Thats where mine are going as soon as I am done leveling. My biggest complaint about the shoudlers is that I level too fast: I recently finished up UnGoro crater, one of my more favorite zones. I started out in the zone with everything being red to me, and only one or 2 quests available. By the time everything was gray'ed out to me, I was only halfway thru the zone. It was honestly disappointing.
Then there is the fact (and I understand it really depends on the class) that I am 2 shotting elites and soloing quests that are considered 3 person group quests. While I understand alot of the elites were nerfed, its still a little irritating to say "This quest is really hard, I and need to have all my CD's available" and then not need ANY CD's at all.

@VSUReaper
The ability to do red quests or group quests isn't the heirloom gear. That gear is just equivalent to blues of the same level. The reason you're finding it so different is the game changes they've made for end game and pvp balance (as well was talent changes) change the way fundamental game play works. Usually each major patch where they introduce talent rewrites increase the general strength of all the classes and increases their dps by a noticeable amount.

I don't know but for me leveling still goes too slow. I know i know it's not meant to be a quick process but I just can't sit down for an entire day and level. I can only do it for an hour or two maybe and I'll be back on my 80 druid. Granted the shoulders look very sexy and they do make leveling faster...Now if we could only get more +exp bonuses that stacked....

There is a rhythm to leveling that you have to find. As an alliance altaholic, I can grab 3-5 levels every couple hours once I hit level 20 and can usually get to 20 in about 4 hours. The biggest thing if to have several quests at a time. You will find that with the improved quest exp, you may go from just into lvl 33 to just short of dinging 35 if you have the right set of quests in your log to turn in all at once. You just have to have a feel for the areas you need to go to, and knock out the quests in the correct order.
I have never used any of the leveling adds, but I would guess they work very much in the same way for maximizing time. You may consider them, hell I still get like a little kid lost at Wal-Mart from about level 51-58 until I reach OL and just can't figure out the most effecient place to level that chunk.

That picture confuses me. Is that a mom as a baby, and then a picture of her baby wearing her old shirt?
Envoy May 27th 2009 8:41AM
No its the same baby[/sarcasm]
Other then that, i would like if they added some Valorous Heirlooms, noone buys the bracers anymore, so the only way to get anything from them is turn to heroism badges and buy gems/icy orbs/heirloom items.
lucifer.cross May 27th 2009 8:40AM
Yes.
Zach May 27th 2009 8:41AM
Yes, that's her mother on the left.
offday May 27th 2009 9:18AM
Ohh ok.
Oh and Envoy, you're an a hole.
snowleopard233 May 27th 2009 9:25AM
You're all wrong. It's a time-traveling baby sent back to the past by the infinite dragonflight to steal our birthday cake!
SaintStryfe May 27th 2009 9:43AM
Ah that's the new five man: Cavern of Time: Party City.
zmoericke May 27th 2009 9:47AM
That would make the mother approx 17 when she had the child based on the dates given in the pictures and the two babies appearing very close in age (within a year imo).
Tirrimas May 27th 2009 10:03AM
It's Chromie in disguise. >.>
(Both are lovely - I wanna squish those chubby baby cheeks!)

I think your math is off. 2009-1982=27, not 17.
