European extended and weekly maintenance: 27th May 2009
Good morning Europe. May is almost over and summer seems to be officially here -- at least in the UK. This week we have something different. For most of us, it's the usual bout of maintenance but some lucky souls are getting extended downtime for a very special reason.Basically the Big Giant Heads at Blizzard have decided to merge a couple of Battlegroups. What's so special about that, I hear you cry? Well, it's special because the groups concerned are all in different languages. Yes, this will be the first time French, German, Spanish and English will come together to make multilingual Battlegroups. Lovely EU Blue Wryxian has created a quick FAQ to explain what the heck is going on, though I confess to still being a little confused.
This means most of us will have normal maintenance between 5:00am and 7:00am CEST while folks in Nightfall, Crueldad, Nemesis and Hinterhalt (realm-wise, that's Aionsus, Anachronos, Bronze Dragonflight, Burning Steppes, Darkmoon Faire, Darkspear, Kor'gall and Lightbringer) will have extended maintenance between 3:00am and 11:00am CEST.
Anyway, my usual motto of 'keep calm and carry on' applies. In the meantime, Daniel Whitcomb has once again provided a feature packed post to keep you entertained. If you finish reading that with time to spare and just happen to be a druid, well you might just want to stare at those lovely updated forms some more. I know I will be.

These articles would make more sence to be posted on Tuesdays, before, not after.

Europe Maintenance is on Wednesdays, not Tuesdays....so it makes sense

Not exactly. Most of the time this is posted wednesday morning, after or well into the maintanance. Would make more sense to be posted tuesday evening.

Multilingual battlegroups? Hasn't Blizz learned anything? It didn't work back when it was the result of a bug and won't now.
kala May 27th 2009 3:36AM
It is planned to be multilingual only with players on oposite sides, not on same team.
Agerath May 27th 2009 3:46AM
@kala: how is that possible? You can't have a separate battlegroup for horde/alliance only.
JHawk May 27th 2009 4:01AM
No, but they can choose which realms go into the pool on which side so that if A and B are French Realms, C and D are german and E and F are english, horde pulling from D would only party with C, but they could face off against a combination of AB, CD, or EF.

@JHawk: All is revealed. Should have read the FAQ. Pity my tiny blackberry connection!

I have tryed several times to download the show but then i come up whit apage of side not work or your contion might has lost, what to do to dl the show??
Droma May 27th 2009 6:05AM
I'm from the battlegroup Crueldad (Cruelty after we melt with Nightfall).
Multilingual battlegroups aren't going to be as messy as you though. In each battleground we are going to play with people from servers with the same languaje, against people with the same or another one (for example spanish horde vs english alliance, or french alliance vs german horde...)
The same applies to the arena of course.
That´s great because it means less time waiting between BGs

fyi: when blizz lists realms on the news feed they only show "relevant" realms, or those in the language your game is displayed in.. my game is in english but i play on both german and english realms and the feed always only lists english realms for me. i play on a realm in the hinterhalt bg and this is STILL down as i write this...
Nick May 27th 2009 7:51AM
well well couldent they do this with the ruin'ed battlegroup? :(
Orrine May 27th 2009 9:24AM
It would be great if Blizzard merged more realms - too much of them (including my) is very much unpopulated

Am I the only one entertained by the socio-political implications of international online warfare? Anyone? Bueller?

[French Horde Player] ru alon hal abak
[English Alliance Player] What? I can't understand you!
[French Horde Player] (translated) Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
Yes, WWIII is imminent.

I hear the English-French battlegroups will get thier own battleground which will take place in a very long tunnel under a body of water....
