Tips for the Wrecking Ball achievement
This forum thread is full of great advice and tips for the Wrecking Ball achievement, in which you've got to get 20 killing blows without dying in a battleground. The key here seems to be to find a place with lots and lots of folks to kill (a spawn point, like the graveyard in WSG, works great, or you can hide behind the big groups in AV), and then just hanging out there as far out of the way as you can get. Having a pocket healer won't hurt either, and playing fair isn't really part of this one -- you want to duck in when you're sure to win the fight, and run like crazy when things even threaten to go against you. Some people say that doing it at a lower bracket can help, too, because unless you're uber geared, it'll be better to go after lower levels than have everybody in the BG be 80. It actually sounds like it's easier than it seems -- as long as you set yourself up in the right place and be really careful about getting stuck in a fight you can't win, you should be able to walk away with the points. Good luck!

This used to be trivial when AV wasn't a race (or at least become a slug fest 1/4 races). I remember games on my mage when I had HK's in the thousands with a few hundred KB's.
WTB PVP AV
:/

AV has changed alot...
i remember the AV battles right outside of Drek, just sitting by the hordes GY spamming AOE and single targeting those crafty ranged classes.
now all AV you do in AV is stare at timers and charge drek. woohoo

As a hunter I found this quite simple. Standing in the back makes it very easy to snag a lot of kills in a hurry without being a target.

As a Horde mage, the best place I found was just north of FW tower in AV. You can solo individual ally runners here with support from NPCs (pull them in IB GY or get archery support from NPCs on FW tower). Additionally, many solo ally runners would prefer to run through this section without a fight to get to DB as quickly as possible, so you may find you get a few kills without any fighting back. Plenty of trees to hide behind here too, so choose your opponent well. Finally, if Horde are losing AV this is a good chokepoint to get a lot of kills in a large battle.

As a mutilate rogue this was easily done solo at lvl79 in eots, no skill needed for one-shotting lvl70 clothies. But at 80, meh, no chance solo as alliance I reckon, but trivial with a DK+restodruid healing and peeling (thx guys!) :)

Well, as a pally I had some good chance, so I specced Ret pvp, used Righteous fury, Kings, Blessing o f Light, Judgement of Light, Sacred Shield and Devotion aura.
ALmost invincible, unless all WG targetted me. I was kinda lucky, cuz I got 20 kills seconds before the BG ended, so, lucky me heh!

yeah, pretty much 90% of the BG achievements work best for non 80s. Having friends and leveling buddies come to me with sometimes 3 of these achievements a battle, many of which i can't get on my main, makes me a believer. I'm personally planning on hitting the BGs hard on my druid at lvl69.

This is one achievement that I've been dreading, somewhat. As a warrior, it is very difficult to get kills without becoming a focus target. About the only way I see this being feasible for me would be in 20 1-on-1 fights in a single AV (which is far more than I usually see in a single BG). I think I'm going to have to get a whole support group (pocket healer and wingmen) in order to pull this one off. =/
Maybe I'm just biased, but it seems to me that this is an achievement that definitely favors ranged classes. What do the rest of you think?
Smurk May 28th 2009 12:36PM
Definitely tough for me as a rogue. I did have 19 KBs/zero deaths once, just couldn't get the last killing blow before we won AV.

Moonkins and shamans have it easy. A druid friend of mine simply went to EoTS and typhooned people off the cliffs.
Also, I found that you can /afk out of a BG and the number of kills will not reset. So you may use that to cheat when you know you're going to die.
HappyFunNorm May 28th 2009 10:27AM
I don't think I've ever managed to get even a single killing blow in PVP.
Can we please get some achievements and quests for healers?
rai May 28th 2009 12:34PM
there is one where you do something like 30k healing in a BG to a single player. I think that is it.
Slaytanic May 28th 2009 10:55AM
Yeah, this achievement is a nightmare for healers. I can roll hundereds of HK's in a WG or AV match easy, with only maybe 1-2 KB's due to a well-timed Hammer Of Wrath or HS. I'll simply have to re-spec to get it. But since it's not part of the Battlemaster meta-achievement.....or ANY meta, for that matter....meh, why bother.
Pantyraider May 28th 2009 11:12AM
I got this on my Death Knight in a WSG pug. I guess we got lucky because the alliance didn't have a single healer, so they all went down fast.
Since getting the achievement, I've been able to repeat it another 5 or 6 times with a guildie druid healbotting me. All of them were in WSG.
Evare May 28th 2009 12:50PM
I have almost had this a few times. The closest I came was on EotS. I had 19 kills and I was about to kill a warlock, we had 20 seconds to go before the game was over, so I knew I had it. That's when I saw someone run past me with the flag and capped it...

I'm a little surprised to see Schramm ADVISING people to hang out at the WSG enemy graveyards. Whether or not the rules permit it, that's widely considered several notches short of "sporting behavior," and a good way to get ostracized among many respectable PvPers. Same goes for AB faction (not node) graveyards.
Pantyraider May 28th 2009 1:20PM
You're not going to get it being nice, Fnord. The intention here IS to kill the opposing faction.
Fnord May 28th 2009 1:32PM
Oh, I've no intent of being "nice"--it's combat, and all that. But if one can only get the achievement by fighting dishonorably, then I won't get it, wouldn't want it, would think a lot less of the people who had it, and remain a little surprised at Schramm for encouraging people to get it. And if there are aboveboard ways (I think there are), I'd encourage him to stick to those in future.
Wither May 28th 2009 1:47PM
Yeah I gotta agree, no matter how desperate you get, please don't stand on top of WSG gys ganking players as they resurrect it causes most players to rant expletives like a sailor. However, I think camping below the cliff near the gys waiting for players (giving them the choice to run around or wait for more players) is acceptable behaviour and can rack up kills. I assume Mike meant the latter.
Fnord May 28th 2009 5:45PM
Yeah--if that's what he meant, I can buy it. The post does leave room for interpreting it that way, and apologies to Schramm if that's what he was trying to get across.
