Two Bosses Enter: Ingvar and Annhylde vs. Krik'thir the Gatewatcher

Utgarde Keep duo Dalronn the Controller and Skarvald the Constructor went down in flames (or Whirlwinds) in last week's Two Bosses Enter matchup, but we're not convinced that all UK bosses are whining nincompoops. This week's deathmatch pits another Utgarde Keep pair, Ingvar the Plunderer and Annhylde the Caller, against Azjol-Nerub's Krik'thir the Gatewatcher. While this duo seems almost as argumentative as the Dalronn/Skarvald duo, their teamwork seems a little more smooth. Will it be enough to overcome Krik'thir and his minions?
The ground rules:
- Assume that these foes share similar levels, health pools and a comparative overall damage output.
- This match takes place in neutral territory.
- Don't get caught up in game mechanics and what actual players might do in each encounter.
- Focus on the three S's: style, story and scale.
Ingvar the Plunderer and Annhylde the CallerIngvar: My life for the... death god!
Annhylde: Ingvar! Your pathetic failure will serve as a warning to all... you are damned! Arise and carry out the master's will!
Ingvar the Plunderer is the last boss in Utgarde Keep, directing the attacks on Valgarde from the balcony over the waterfall in Daggercap Bay. Under his command, the dragon riders revel in slaughtering their enemies from above without warning.
Like the Valkyries of old, Annhylde the Caller summons Ingvar to battle, resurrecting him when fallen as an Undead champion.
Ingvar the Plunderer
Annhylde the Caller
- Resurrection Upon Ingvar's initial death, Annhylde resurrects him in Undead form to fight anew.
Krik'thir the GatewatcherKeep an eye on the tunnel. We must not let anyone through!
I hear footsteps. Be on your guard.
I sense the living. Be ready.
Krik'thir, an Undead Nerubian vizier, is the first boss of Azjol-Nerub who guards the gate that leads further into the ancient city. His commander, Anub'Arak, is a powerful servant of the Lich King.
Krik'thir is accompanied by three groups of three spiders, led by Watcher Silthik, Watcher Gashra and Watcher Narjil. Some groups contain an Anub'ar Skirmisher. Once the first group of spiders has entered battle, the others (and later Krik'thir himself) will eventually join in.

krik'thir by far... with his watchers and their respective skirmishers, i think he could probably take down most heroic bosses... that being said, ingvar is hilariously easy; a perfect end boss for a hilariously easy heroic.

is this even a fight? Ingvar blindly runs into the room gets facepwnd by the watchers and Krik. He gets rezzed and gets facepwnd again, xcept this time he drops phat lewt for spiders

In this fight, I can only go by who killed me more often as a wee toon. Therefore, Ingvar and Annhylde win in a WALK.
Nolls74 May 28th 2009 7:32PM
Ingvar wins for this reason: I think Ingvar will handle the first pack of watchers fairly well, untill he uses his first Smash. I think his smash would most likely be poorly aimed and used a bit too close to the other groups and Krik'thir, aggroing the boss and the other 6 adds at once. With a total of 10 spiders on him, he gets taken down for his first life pretty quick. After his rebirth, I think his AoE Dark Smash cimbined with a well timed Shadow Axe will take down the adds, leaving a one on one match up with Kriket boy. Dreadful roar will silence the spider, nullifying the Mind Flay. The only trick is Ingvar needs to be smart and time his moves carefully, and avoid pulling all the adds at once, and he wins easily. If Ingvar gets it to a one on one, Krik just doesn't have enough to take down the Vrykul. 5man groups die on this fight usually because the healer gets wrapped and isn't freed fast enough or the skirmishers get free and go for a healer. Ingvar doesn't have this problem, and I don't see a bunch of spiders being smart enough to run out of his Smash/Dark Smash.

It's close, but I give this one to Krik'thir. I'm doubting Krik'thir would just wait in the back and let his minions do all the work. Yeah, he'd be the prime target. Total, that's ten enemies that Ingvar has to go through, and on top of that is the unmentioned ability Bugs. I'm not saying Ingvar will go down easily; I mean, he has Smash on his side, for one thing. As long as he keeps that and cleave up, I can see his taking a at least four down before he dies.
Krik'thir: 75% health, 6 minions
Ingvar: 100%
Now Ingvar's back up, stronger than ever. Does more damage and switches some abilities around. Coupling Dreadful Roar with Dark Smash and Shadow Axe, this is where it gets deadly. Ingvar chews through the minions as Krik'thir starts standing back a bit, continually sending out Bugs and using Curse of Fatigue. Once the minions are finished off, Ingvar is at 40% while Krik'thir is at 55%. Ingvar rushes at Krik'thir, starting off with a dreadful roar followed by a shadow axe as Krik'thir sends out more bugs. Some of the bugs are destroyed by the Dark Axe ability. Krik'thir's main attack is now Curse of Fatigue.
Krik'thir: 25%
Ingvar:15%
The battle continues with the dreadful roar/dark smash combo and bug/curse of fatigue spam, but ultimately, Ingvar loses yet again.
Alternatively:
"I sense the living. Be ready."
"I'll paint my face with your blood!"
"This kingdom belongs to the Scourge! Only the dead may enter."
"My life for the... death god!"
"As Anub'Arak commands!"
"I return! A second chance to carve out your skull!"
"Dinner time, my pets."
"No! I can do... better! I can..."
"You were foolish to come."
Rexton May 28th 2009 7:40PM
tl;dr:
Ingvar is overtaken by bugs, but doesn't go down easy.
Dirgo May 28th 2009 7:50PM
I gotta go with Ingvar on this one.
The most annoying things about the three groups of adds before the actual boss (at least from a tank's perspective) is the damnable Skirmishers. Ingvar doesn't really have to worry about those, because he doesn't have a healer to peel those bastards off of.
Also, there's no way that the little minions are gonna be smart enough to hobble through Ingvar to not get Smash'd upside the face, so I don't really see Ingvar having too much trouble with them. I imagine they'd get Ingvar to about half-health before getting to Krik'Thir.
And at that point, I think with his rez, Ingvar's got -enough- DPS to get Krik'Thir down.

Overall, this is how I see the battle:
Intro: We never actually killed the Gatewatcher, just knocked him out. After we leave he wakes up and somehow uses the power of the Lich King to rez the other 3 groups, thinking Anub'arak is still alive. He is bent on revenge and sneaks to Utgarde Keep.
Battle: They make their way through the keep until only Ingvar stand. Hearing the battle before they reach him, he has time to prep his axe and ask the old god for strength. As he finishes preparing the blade, the first watcher comes at him. He easily cleaves him in two, and finishes off the other two members with the same simplicity. Then he sees the two others watchers coming at him, one of them tries to web him, he deflects it, webs the other watcher, kills him and focuses his attention on the remaining watcher. Just as her deals the killing blow Krik'thir attacks him from behind and launches him off the balcony into the lake. He swims to shore just in time to see Krik'thir jump down. Krik'thir impales him in the head.
Conclusion: Seeing his job is finished, Krik'thir turns his back. He dosn't see Annhylde come and ressurect him. Yet, unlike the instance, he is found worthy and becomes 3 times as powerful. He charges, swings his axe...
2 hours later he mounts krik'thirs head on one of the posts on the balcony for all to see...

Despite ">8< Spider Pride" we have to remember that Nerubians are, in fact, idiots. Additionally, Ingvar's aggro quote "I'll paint my face with your blood!" tells me he's eager for battle, and will most likely charge straight into battle, with little thought to tactics. He'll knock back the watcher, before he realizes that there are plenty of bugs munching on his backside, he'll turn around, putting all the adds into the path of his Smash. Krikthir finishes Ingvar off while Ingvar, with bloodlust in his mind, AoE's the lesser adds to death, and dies to the damage.
Ingvar rezzes, and stands before the watcher's as an undead creature of the scourge. They Nerubians, with their hard wired loyalties, and the prescence of a herals of the Litch King, will stand there in awe and confusiong. Ingvar, however, is still a raging berserjer, undead or not, and will have plenty of time for his three second cast, after getting into position, which, with cleave and his other abilities for more than one target, will give him a good enough lead to down the Nerubians
I'm a phylumist, and I don't care.
Cody May 28th 2009 8:33PM
Meh, I'm giving this one to Krik'thir. The important thing to remember is that, even with Ingvar's second life, it's 10 vs. 1. By the time he's almost done with the watchers he'll either have used his second life or be almost dead.
Candina@WH May 28th 2009 8:34PM
krik'thirs: Damn another Vykrul, to arms, rend his misbegotten flesh.
Sends in all three waves of mobs at once. They kill Ingvar.
Annhylde: Ingvar, your pathetic failure shall serve as a... whatever. ONCE AGAIN, Rise and server the Death Lord.
Ingvar: Another chance to cleave your sk... um.... Carapace!
krik'thirs: Dinner Time, my Pets.
Ingvar: NO! Get them off me... aacckkk.. Thud.
Annhylde: /facepalm
krik'thirs: /shrug
Meethan May 28th 2009 8:59PM
The reason I say Ingvar is because I leave out the fact that the spider is guarded. These fights take place on neutral terrain, thus there would be little time to gain his guards. Even with the guards, Ingvar would plow through his minions with his wide range of AoE abilities and have enough strength left to face Krik'thir, without even reincarnating. If Krik'thir did kill him for the first time, the zombie would just completely roll over his face.
Ingvar is the winner because he is a valiant Vrykul. Krik'thir is a gatewatcher.
AlexODST May 28th 2009 9:16PM
I hate that bug.... he is so hard to keep out of aggro
Wulfkin May 28th 2009 10:06PM
If it was just Krik'thir I would say that Ingvar could have him, especially in his resurrected form. But the inclusion of Krik'thir's posse means that Ingvar doesnt have a hope. He is indeed damned, and hes a weakling at that.
duff812 May 28th 2009 10:12PM
Well, I honestly just give it to Krik'thir solely due to the ear screeching noise he makes.
ccbutch May 28th 2009 11:24PM
Ingvar's abilities are built toward aoe, you don't realize it when fighting him cause everyone spreads out and some groups LoS to avoid his attacks, but Krik'thir's minions aren't that smart.
Kirk will stand back and have his minions all attack at once, after all, they are the hard part of the fight. Ingvar will take out all the little scrubs, including the skirmishers, with-out even trying, seeing as how most of his attacks have an aoe component in them. He'll get the watchers down to about 50% before he dies. However, the spiders aren't expecting him to resurrect and are caught off guard as he quickly dispatches of the watchers leaving only Ingvar and Krik. Krik doesn't stand a chance 1 on 1and easily goes down.
