Not XP, but the actual experience of running content *before* it becomes 'important' at level 80 (for 'important' read 'if you screw up here, other people will be annoyed' - not quite so much an issue in older raids.)
I think it's a good idea to look at the legacy content whilst levelling if you can because playing that stuff at near the right level, even with a few capped players helping out, can teach you a lot about tactics.
