Pets to scale from resilience and other stats
I don't PvP, so I'm going off the reports of others here, but apparently Warlock and Hunter pets are often proving ineffective and short-lived in PvP. Until recently, this was often the case in PvE as well, but pets have much more avoidance now in a PvE environment.
It looks like an improvement will be coming in PvP as well: Ghostcrawler said last night that they "think it's probably time to let pets scale, to some extent, with resilience and spell pen." In fact, he says they have a new pet scaling system, and "assuming it works" (which seems like something they ought to be able to make work), they should be able to make the pet scale off of "all relevant stats" of the master.
Players have been asking for more pet scaling for a long time, especially resilience. Obviously how big of a change it will be depends on what "to some extent" ends up meaning, but it can only help pet classes.

About time. I am most excited about the possible crit bonus the pets will be recieving. This will definatly be the biggest boon to BM Hunter and may bring them back in line with SV Hunters DPS.

Something hit me when I switched to surv, and have yet to really find if anyone has done the numbers on it.
My qeustion, if you know, is how much better is surv better than the other 2 trees?
The most important reason I ask is Hunter vs Wild. Most hunters have careful aim that increases their AP off intel, no matter which spec they choose, but hunter vs wild is a talent that really starts to get sexy in higher end content.
All raid gear has stamina on it, so the ap difference granted by Hunter vs Wild really starts to influence (or so it could) the difference in the trees overall dps.
Is there any explanation as to why surv is so much better? It can't just be pet contribution or MM would be able to compete with surv, one would think.

If "all relevant stats" also includes stuff like Armor Penetration and Expertise, this would be a pretty significant boost for pet DPS scaling.
Good news for Beast Master/Demonology folks.

Maybe even bring BM dps equal/better than SV?

If spell pen is a part of this, I don't see why Armor pen wouldn't be, either. So, if this is the case, then this definitely does have the potential to increase pet DPS. I dunno if it'll bring BM up to the level of Survival or Marksman, but it'll definitely increase.
Still, I won't hold my breath. This seems to definitely benefit PVP more than PVE. Still, good stuff. I can't wait to see how it works out, especially the resilience part.
Plus, I doubt Expertise would be a part of this. And if it does end up a part of it, I doubt it'd be a huge enough stat to force BM Hunters to roll on that gear. The only game changer I could see is armor pen being a bigger stat for BM Hunters to work with than before.

Armor Penetration and Spell Penetration work in completely different ways. While ArP will give you a direct increase in damage by lowering the opponent's armor, SpP will reduce the enemies resistances by a certain amount, increasing the dps of course, but is more similar to hit rating in that regard.

Expertise definitely should not be a part of this. As it stand now, gear with expertise is one of the few things that shows a piece of gear is intended for melee players. Hunters already have a reputation of auto-rolling on all loot, which is sometimes deserved, sometimes not. The last thing hunters need is another stat to gear for, which would further expand their base of "needed" gear.

I guess the question is how far they're going to take the scaling. Does "all relevant stats" refer to PvP stats only, or all PvP and DPS stats of the master?

i'm curious to see the result, especially since i have an Affliction / Demonology warlock.

is it possible for wowinsider to change the css such that one can read downranked text by hilighting over it w/ the mouse?
Eudeyrn Jun 1st 2009 1:23AM
Do you mean you'd like it to be invisible until you mouseover it? I'd prefer a collapsing system, like wowhead uses. It kind of defeats the purpose of downranking, when the comment is still there, taking up space, but slightly darker. Maybe my monitor is overly bright, but I have no problem reading the text on downraked comments, even with the darkened look.

All hail Ghostcrawler. Oh, and if this brings BM back to the same level as SV it will be better than Christmas for sure.
Butnick May 31st 2009 5:01PM
lol, Sounds like they are trying to fix BM without actually admitting they were wrong about it. "Oh ummm... Yeah, you guys have been asking for res to scale with pets so we're ummmm... going to make all relevant stats scale into pets stats, so ummmmm... yeah..."
Olicon May 31st 2009 6:16PM
You asked, they listened, and you managed to whine about it. Good job, sir.
Butnick May 31st 2009 6:56PM
lol, I'm not whining, it's a great idea. Just saying, they still refuse to admit they were wrong about the BM nerf to the ground and this seems like a way of getting around it by claiming they are doing it for PvP reasons.
Mistat May 31st 2009 7:11PM
Interesting, could make BM/Demo tanking for some fights viable again, if you could get enough pet resilience to make the pet uncritable
Tyrrax Jun 1st 2009 4:44AM
You want pet scaling for hunters? Fine. Remove the beast within. They should not have both. What part of pet don't they understand.
Robert M Jun 1st 2009 1:50PM
Not being a jerk, but how does that move BM hunters to being OP?
