Sea Turtle irregularities
Crygil's been getting to the bottom of the sea -- sea turtle, that is (sorry about that one). Some players wondered if it's getting picked up in just Northrend pools or all over Northrend waters, but as we originally told you in our guide to getting one of the game's coolest new mounts, it is supposed to come only from fishing in pools in Northrend. People are reporting it appearing from elsewhere, but straight from Blizzard's blue text, that's where it's supposed to come from.As for when you'll get it, that we don't know -- all we know so far about droprates is that it's "extremely rare," which is about as rare as items in Azeroth get. We've heard from quite a few people who've gotten it already, but for any given catch, the chance is really, really small that you'll pull up a mount along with your fish. Still, it's not impossible, and especially if you're leveling fishing (which you should be -- it's lots of fun nowadays), it's definitely something to keep your eyes open for.

got mine out of the frozen sea as well.............this mount is very nice although not very practical..........i think Blizz should allow me to fish on this mount....just a thought

I got mine two days ago while deliberately fishing for it in the Frozen Sea pools (due to the density of pools in this area). I did not spend a lot of time, maybe 30 minutes.
This is the penultimate fishing achievement for me. Only leaves winning the Extravaganza now...

I think it might be stretching it to say that fishing is "lots of fun", but it certainly is more enjoyable than it used to be. It's not might first choice of things to do ingame, but I no longer feel like clawing my eyes out when I do it. It's amazing what simply replacing that annoying "The fish got away" message with junk items did to increase the fun level.

I have been fishing an hour a day since the patch to get this damn thing. I probably hit 50 pools a day. My bank alt has 2 full guild bank tabs and half of a 3rd crammed with fish. Still nothing.
Grrrrr lol

I've been trying to get the Sea Turtle off and on since the patch. 1hr here, 2hrs there, etc... My GF decides one weekend she wants to try for it. This is about 1.5hrs after I started grinding out pools of fish on a Sunday afternoon. She casts 11 times and gets the turtle. I haven't fished out of another pool since.

She casts 11 times and loots a sea turtle... Damn, that's how you know you've found a keeper! Never dump that GF, you hear? ;)
You should have her enter a couple lotteries as well. :D
As for me I've yet to fish for the turtle, but I've made WELL over 1000 casts in the dalaran sewers, trying to catch the rat minipet. Still no luck...

Two old guild-mates got theirs within a half-hour on the first day of 3.1. Mine took about 2000 casts, ~ a week's worth of farming Dragonfin Angelfish (which make me a good chunk of change, too!)

El's Anglin' puts the drop rate of the Turtle at about 1 in 4000 from pools in Northrend, though almost all the comments I see say that people usually find it within about 1000 casts, which would either indicate the drop rate is much higher or people who post comments are just incredibly lucky.

That is the inherent problem with basing observations off of posts. Its the squeaky-wheel syndrome. People are more likely to boast/complain if their particular result ends up as an outlier in the overall distribution.

I picked up my turtle while waiting for our EoE raid to fill up. Not even thinking of the turtle, I looted it from just the sixth fishing pool. As for being rare? More than twenty people in my guild have it already, and they're not big into fishing.
All I can say is:
Sea turtle + Kalu'ak fishing pole + Glyph of Unending Breath = Michael Phelps

"Sea turtle + Kalu'ak fishing pole + Glyph of Unending Breath = Michael Phelps"
No, the formula should be:
Sea turtle + Kalu'ak fishing pole + Glyph of Unending Breath+POT = Michael Phelps

Erm - if you have unending breath why do you use the fishing pole?
Scott Jun 2nd 2009 2:44PM
@atr
Unending breath does wear off in 10 minutes time, trivializing its name. However, the fishing pole allows one to stay under water until the player decides to come up.

7500 catches in the Blue Sky Logging Grounds is what it took me.
Owen Jun 1st 2009 2:44PM
Got mine yesterday after 5 days of on and off fishing :D.
vern Jun 1st 2009 2:48PM
I have been trying for 3 days now.
I am putting maybe ...m mmmm... 5 hours a day into it and nothing, but its fun and i am watching the Sopranos in the same time, so its pretty painless.
It will come up at one point, i am sure LOL

Or the people who havn't caught it yet are still out there on their 8000th cast, not having time to fish for it :)
on my server I was aware of someone getting it 11th cast around an hour after the patch went live, the day after there were 5 people sat on turtles in Dalaran in a circle. My fishing is 351, don't think I can look foward to this mount for a while :(
