Update: European weekly maintenance: 3rd June 2009

It's Wednesday once more in Europe and Blizzard has been busy. After the implementation of multilingual battle groups last week, they seemed to like it so much that they're merging some more, this time on a bigger scale. Hopefully all this should be happening between 3:00am and 11:00am CEST, but judging by some of the problems experienced by Americans yesterday, this could easily changed. Just keep calm and carry on.So during the maintenance tomorrow, we will not only be getting patch 3.1.3, various battle groups will be shoved together and renamed.
- Bloodlust (hey that's me) and Cataclysme will become Cataclysm/Cataclysme
- Cyclone and Todbringer will become Cyclone/Wirbeisturm
- Conviction and Raserei will become Frenzy/Raserei
- Rampage and Ferocite will become Rampage/Saccage
- Reckoning and Verderbnis will become Reckoning/Abrechnung
- Ruin and Glutsturm will become Emberstorm/Glutsturm
- Vengeance and Schattenbrand will become Vengeance/Rache, and finally
- Sturmangroff and Represailles will become Sturmangriff/Charge
So while you're waiting for all this to happen, there's plenty to do. We've got patch notes for 3.1.3, there are the new Tauren kitty forms to drool over and you could even download the Battle.net authenticator app from EU iTunes stores. As usual one of my American colleagues - this week Alex Z. - has compiled a fun post to read that rounds up all the interesting tidbits which have been happening for your amusement to tide you over until the servers pop back up.
UpdatE: Maintenance has now been extended to 1pm CEST.

Yeah Ice, I got it too.
I figured I'd wait until the servers are actually up to give it a try again. I was thinking maybe it was doing it because they hadn't actually finished the work for the patch to work with yet. At least I'm hoping that's what it is because I don't really relish the idea of spending all day reinstalling WoW because they broke it with the patch.

Alway cute when someone here uses German. You never seem to get it right ('WirbeLsturm') - l like we native speakers (not to speak of our terrible English).
But enough nitpicking, the authors of this site create a unique relaxing and informative atmosphere! Keep it that way.

it says they will be back up at 13:00 game time, so I suppose they will be, even if it does take longer I have rarely seen that it takes till the evening, good chance it will be fine.

Some EU realms are up, but technical performance is WotLK beta quality. Specifically:
* Very long initial load-into-world times.
* Loot lag, specifically when a new inventory slot needs to be filled. Get attacked while looting, an you can die before looting is complete.
* Complete de-spawning of world NPCs and objects. For example, an entire field of rhinos in Storm Peaks disappeared while I was trying to kill them. And I'm sat in Dalaran now waiting for anyone to appear at all.
* Argent Tournament jousting NPCs are behaving irrationally - taking a long time to turn hostile, rushing off and attacking other players.
So if your realm isn't up yet, you aren't missing much.
Now, the unfortunate thing is that if this is a recurrence of the beta issues, it also comes with a host of very serious exploitation potential involving de-syncing of different sets of data...

Yo, WoWInsider - maybe put a note before many more users reinstall their WoWs.
"Unable to validate game version. maybe caused of corrupted files" is common issue that can be very quickly resolved.
It looks like Blizzard has hanged some of their servers' IPs, so some people may have to flush their DNS cache (Start Menu -> run -> cmd.exe -> "ipconfig /flushdns").
System restart helps too, obviously.
