Maintenance continues, restarts for many realms [UPDATED]
Rolling restarts are currently in progress on many realms, apparently to address a talent issue that cropped up with patch 3.1.3. These restarts shouldn't take more than 2 hours across the board. Meaning that your server shouldn't be down for very long at all, because that two hour window is for the entire process. The battlegroups being hit with these restarts are:- Ruin
- Vindication
- Rampage
- Shadowburn
- Stormstrike
- Nightfall
- Whirlwind
- Emberstorm
- Retaliation
Update: They're still working on getting the downed realms into working order, but don't currently have an ETA. They say an update will come soon.

Betting this is not the end of the most recent maintenance from hell, considering most of the realms on that list are on the Vengeance battle group which is not listed here.
My poor Rexxar. Not a big enough population, unstable laggy server, and ensured to blow up every time there's maintenance. Time to talk the Guild into a realm transfer...

Hah, another Rexxarian! I've been on a lot of realms, and Rexxar is by far the best one so far. Sure, the server itself is a little chuggy, its unstable at best, and a little unpopulated...but I love the people there.
Shoutout to Hordeside, Baenhoof loves you!
Anyway theres really no reason for this stuff to be down this long...its not like they dont have piles of money to throw at techies and say 'fix it.'

because obviously, money solves all computer problems....

Rexxar is where I call home as well! yes, Rexxar takes the brunt of any maintenance cycle and is infamous for 'world server down' messages, but I haven't had any significant issue with lag. I find the medium population size and generally good companionship to worth the occasional server hiccup.

Ah, Rexxar!
I hope it had a nice day off yesterday.
I logged in this morning and everything seemed fine...

There's still a large number of realms that are down (including mine) with no ETA for going back up, although they say we'll get an update in 15 minutes or so. =-(

Whisperwind too!

I propose that Blizzard just fire their entire realm maintenance team. Those folks, and whoever run the PTR, are obviously not getting the job done these days.
Marcblack Jun 2nd 2009 10:21PM
What is PTR for?
Ty blizz, to show us again how to make a crap job.
Janaa Jun 2nd 2009 10:23PM
Whee.. 4 hours left until 24-hour downtime for my realm..
FeverRay Jun 2nd 2009 10:25PM
hope these restarts solve the annoying lag issue with AH/mail/loot items, making it take a long time to be refreshed.

Oh great, before the downed servers were on the list but Offline. now those servers are missing from the list entirely. :/ At least this whole thing has given me the chance to level my real life cooking skill by several points. Who wants quiche?

Me, please!

I find it quite ironic that your breaking tag actually relates to Blizz breaking all their realms and most people's perceived levels of SLAs.

At 12:30 EST (Australia, Sydney), the "Oceanic" servers are completely gone (and by gone I mean there is no tab to select "Oceanic" when selecting realms.)
Wolftech Jun 2nd 2009 10:35PM
Thats what happens when Blizzard moves the servers to the Hatch Room...
Rickie Jun 2nd 2009 10:32PM
Yea my actual server isn't actually on the list. Weird, hope it comes back soon.

It absolutely amazes me that Blizzard - after nearly 5 years of handling WoW - continues to fail at simply QC procedures when dealing with maintenance and hardware upgrades. There is no way anything that affects this many servers should have been allowed to go this wrong. I have no sympathy for them whatsoever - they have more than enough resources to avoid these problems, yet they clearly don't feel like investing the money and/or manpower needed to properly handle it.

As far as I know Blizz don't do all the upgrades themselves, I would imagine there would be a fair bit of outsourcing done.
For example, about a year ago (I think) and at some stages earlier, server maintenance was far better than it is now, in fact, there were times when some servers didn't even need to go down for the maintenance, however when the Blizz/Activision takeover occured, everything went to crap, and I am only guessing this would be because of outsourcing.
I have a friend that used to do the Maintenance back in the Vanilla WoW days and he said that even back then, the original guys had left and no one really knows how the systems work, its kind of like a magic box they just keep poking so it keeps going.

Personally, I think the support for WoW has gone down the crapper since the merger. Its no wonder that they the BBB (Better Business Bureau ) gives them an 'F' for customer service.
