New Tauren cat forms revealed
So far we've already seen the bear forms for Tauren and Night Elves. Today, Blizzard unveiled the replacements for the much-maligned Tauren cat form. You can see the results above. My initial reaction is that they're still a bit ugly, but way better than the previous Tauren cat form (which is marked "Old Cat form" above).
Here's what a few of our staff members thought:
Elizabeth: "A million times better. Still not as cool as night elf, but better."
Allison: "The eyes are way too small. Still going to be glad I play a bear."
Lesley: "Those horns are evil."
Alex: "I'm gonna roll a Tauren Druid so I can play that black one with the grey mane. I'm going to RP an old grizzled war vet Druid."
What do you think?

A lot of things in Warcraft are supposed to be "ugly-cool".
The only difference now is that they've got the talent on board to make it look like it's supposed to look ugly, instead of looking like a low-poly, low-rest, lazy mess.
I love these Tauren cat forms, and can't wait to see what the Night Elves have.

You want pretty? Play a night elf! :-)
If the tauren forms weren't a little scruffy they wouldn't fit the horde. We are talking about a race who's distinctive idle animation is scratching their butt. We are not pretty. We are not smooth (ignore that preening blood elf transfixed by a mirror). We are not refined. That's why I picked Horde when I started.
Overall I adore the new bears (I'm first a feral tank anyway)... the kitteh forms are nice and new, but they haven't won me over completely. Probably will once I see them in action and can start to identify with them.

Looks like they evolved an extra toe. The old forms have three per paw while the new ones have four. Shouldn't that increase our dps?

@ random : it was a joke based off the artwork, not a comment about balancing issues. I really like the new models and cat wait to see the NE ones

comment system fail, lol. my post was in reply to a druid-hater, but his post got deleted, and somehow mine was attached to yours.

Damn, im rerolling a druid when the new skins hit the servers :D
Raze Jun 2nd 2009 1:28PM
Damn.
Damn.
Badass. /That's/ what a new form should look like.
Will Jun 2nd 2009 1:29PM
Actually, these forms totally own the new bear models imho.
Raze Jun 2nd 2009 1:35PM
Uh-huh. The whole point was that I was pretty underwhelmed with the new tauren bear forms.
Coming from someone who can't stand cats in WoW, this is a massive, MASSIVE improvement. It /looks/ like a totally new model, unlike the bear.
The rest of you can be all technical and point out how the new bears are less pointy or whatever, but they're wet matches in a damp cave compared to these new cat forms.

My initial reaction was that the nose was too elongated. A little ugly. But when I consider it, they really do look like what a cow might look like as a lion.
Make me want to level my lvl12 druid in feral instead of balance.

jvncafsdfmbkllmsc. Wow. That's AMAZING. I'm so going to keep working on my tauren druid.
wowasitstands Jun 2nd 2009 1:29PM
FINALLY new kitty model for tar druids!!!
No more butt ugly face, no more squished belly when they sit, WOOHOO!
Not to crazy about the nose ring, but meh, can't have everything.
Love the skins. Can't wait to give these a try in game.

They closed the mouth. That's good enough for me.

I have a great fondness for the much-maligned tauren cat form. Ages ago, when I was a wee night elf rogue lass running the roads of Darkshore, I spotted my very first *gasp* horde: a tawny lion with horns and a great mane. I was sure he was going to attack me and immediately stealthed past him. He apparently was also sure I was going to attack him, because when I got a ways past him down the road I snuck a peek behind me and he was staring intently in my direction. Both of us stood there, unsure of what exactly was supposed to happen, until my daughter reminded me that I was on a pve server, unflagged, and therefore in no danger.
Ah the noobish days of yore.
All of this leading up to: I think the new skins are pretty ugly.

Nice little story, but I have to say, if you play on a PvE server still... I'd say they were pretty much the "noobish days of present day".
Hiwa Jun 2nd 2009 5:53PM
Ah, a pve/pvp debate :)
I meant noobish in that I knew so little about the game I didn't even know the difference between pvp and pve, or that pvp servers existed. The first time I went to the Barrens I about had a heart attack thinking every horde in a 20 mile radius would magically sense my presence and come running to kill me. My daughter had to school me (old fogey mom) in a lot of the ins and outs of MMOs.

At least they got rid of that stupid look with the mouth being open.
pietrex Jun 2nd 2009 1:31PM
I. Absolutely. Love. Them. Can't. Wait. Want. 3.2. Now.
