Achieved: Level 1 to 80 with no deaths

Cautious, a Warrior, leveled to 80 without dying.
She had no deaths. None. Nada. Zilch.
There is no achievement for doing this, however I wouldn't blame Blizzard one bit if they went in and retroactively added one just for Cautious. Lord of the Rings Online has a no-death achievement, but only up through level 20. I got to level 18 without dying on LotRO on a recent attempt, however I perished when some "really really super awesome person" trained a bunch of mobs near me just as I executed an AoE attack. "Really really super awesome person" is what I called him too. Honest.
A few months ago in The Queue a reader asked if there would ever be (or is) such an achievement for WoW, and my response at the time was no, there is not one now and probably would not be one later. I reasoned that including such an achievement would just present undue psychological damage on the player if they died at 79 from an unforeseen circumstance. I still don't think there will be one, but it's pretty awesome someone managed to do it sans in-game achievement.
Some of her key stats upon reaching level 80 include:
Creatures killed: 17,811
Quests completed: 1,777
Healing Potions consumed: 19
Hours played: 296
Deaths: 0
Quests completed: 1,777
Healing Potions consumed: 19
Hours played: 296
Deaths: 0
To me this indicates that the majority of the time was spent killing mobs and completing quests that were lower than her level. Nothing is wrong with that at all, especially if trying for such an achievement. The 296 hours played is 12 days 8 hours, which isn't too bad considering how slow and careful she was going.
Players will ask if this is the first person to reach level 80 without dying. It's entirely possible Cautious holds that honor, but we can never be sure without Blizzard confirmation.
It should also be noted that the armory reflects one death, that occurred sometime within the last 24 hours since we got this tip. That death happened after reaching level 80. Cautious posted in the forums that this happened via use of Nitro Boost.
Edit: Updated how the only death after 80 happened.

"Cautious the Cautious"
Marcblack Jun 4th 2009 11:09PM
Try to do this at gurubashi, with bunch off allies ganking u everywhere u go.
Irshalthra Jun 5th 2009 9:55AM
lol - now that wouldn't be very "cautious" would it - :D
You could only do that on a PVE server while not going near PVP zones.

First off I wanna say grats to Cautious.
Second, i was in a bad mood after seeing the new night elf cat forms. Tauren still looks like jack crap compared to them, but....after seeing this.....I started giggling. Not because I thought it was trifle or anything but because of my best friend. A tauren warrior named Recklessone. Ever since I met him oh so long ago, he has been responsible for countless deaths for both of us. "Lets see how many mobs I can take down without armor. Heal me!!!" or "I'm going to tank this instance in my T0 pally gear!" Way to go Cautious. I could never do it with the company I keep. XD

I can barely make it to level 5 without one death.... LOL
AishaLove Jun 5th 2009 12:22AM
LOL and I just realized, when the next expansion comes out, she will need to either make a new toon and start all over or delete this one to level from 1-90 without dieing XD
Irshalthra Jun 5th 2009 9:56AM
This - OUCH!

snap. goes to show, with enough patience, hard work and planning, even the most insane of feats are possible.
2 years of work, and 14 re-rolls later? I'll bet this accomplishment will not be replicated any time soon.
Minifig Jun 5th 2009 1:33AM
How many healers did she have circling her the whole time she leveled? 4?
zweitblom Jun 5th 2009 2:00AM
You must really be a joy to play with.
Graham Jun 5th 2009 2:10AM
Healers are for speed-leveling, but you could do "cautious" leveling without any.
Jdee Jun 5th 2009 1:18AM
It's a nice personal achievement but it is easily done on PvE server (super newsworthy if done on a PvP server solo) unless you are subject to external factors like a disconnect or lag death. Some classes can do it much easier (like my Paladin 99% solo in 8 days) and a warrior is one of the harder ones but any class with pets or healing has an easy shot at it.
LadySDevil Jun 5th 2009 1:40AM
Sure they have a shot at it, but if it was that easy, it already would have been done. The fact that it hasn't ever been done before Cautious, despite the fact people have tried, is what makes this so special.
Irshalthra Jun 5th 2009 9:59AM
Agreed PVP is next to no chance.
Agreed different classes would be "easier".
Saying it would be "easy" on a PVE and being a healing class - I call BS on this blowhard.
LadySDevil Jun 5th 2009 1:37AM
I'm not sure I would want an achievement in there for that, unless it was a onetime feat of strength thing just for Cautious. (It's pretty annoying in guildwars to team up with someone who is going for achievement there and have them bail any time it looks like they might die, and you know there are lots of people who would insist on group while trying to complete it.)
However, I do think it should be rewarded in some way, a title, a weapon named after her, something. :)
Jdee Jun 5th 2009 1:53AM
That's the thing it has been done already. It is very easy to do, especially if you pick and choose quests. The hardest part is not dying to something like lag. I did 1-70 no deaths on my Paladin without even trying and could have done 1-80 but I was levelling as fast as possible and clearing zones so soloing elite 3 & 5 man quests so I died. There is no achievement for it and shouldn't be one, it's a personal thing.
Even my Warriors and Hunters could do it. So it just comes down to luck and not huge skill to not die before 80. Give me 7-10 days played depending on the class and I can show you how easy it is.
Lemons Jun 5th 2009 2:54AM
There's no glory in it if you're doing it with a pally.
That's like saying, "yea, I can bench 300 pounds" and then adding "with a forklift."
SarahTheGnome Jun 5th 2009 6:52AM
It is amazing how many players, including yourself, come here to make a point about how easy this is. While this is the first person to actually succeed. And don't tell me it is the first one to try, people are out there leveling naked, tanking on their mage, etc, all to see the game from a different perspective after years of playing, so I am guessing many have tried leveling without any deaths.
But jdee, since it is so easy, yes, please try. But on a warrior, not on a paladin for example, anyone can do that on a paladin.
Arcaria Jun 5th 2009 7:55AM
There's no proof at all that this is the first character to reach max level without dying. There's not even any proof that she's the first one to get to 80 without dying. I do think it can be done and probably has been done before by players who reached 60 or 70 prior to the armory stats and just didn't bother telling wowinsider about it.
Leveling without dying is NOT that difficult. Even while fighting yellow and orange mobs. Just don't make hard pulls and don't join any groups or accept escort quests.
All that's left is hoping that your internet goes along with your mission.
Perhaps that title for this achievement could be "My ISP can beat up you ISP".
Swampsquatch Jun 5th 2009 9:31AM
@ Arcaria
While the ISP joke was pretty funny, the first two sentences are redundant.
"There's no proof at all that this is the first character to reach max level without dying."
"There's not even any proof that she's the first one to get to 80 without dying."
