Breakfast Topic: Inexplicable dislikes
Last Monday, we did a breakfast topic on things you like in WoW that other people don't understand. Today, let's talk about the opposite: things you hate that other people don't get, or that maybe don't make any sense at all. You know - that thing that just irks you for no apparent reason.
As an example, I hate partially filling a talent, like going 3/5 in something. Can't stand it. I'm enough of a min/maxer that I'll still do it if I think it'll help my game appreciably, but when leveling (for instance) I'll go out of my way to avoid doing it.
I don't like Blacksmithing or Engineering, for some reason. I've tried them on several characters, and always ended up dropping them for another gathering skill. And it bothers me to no end that when you log out via /camp there's no way to skip the 20-second "you're not in an inn" timer (even at level 80), but there is when you log out via /quit.
So those are some of mine. What are you senselessly bothered by in WoW?

I hate that it takes forever to grind for reputation.
And I think that Blizzard should assign new loot (and Heroic modes) to old content to make PvE a bit more enjoyable since running the same dungeons over and over can be pretty boring (no hate here, more 'dislike'since you can't really hate something that's not there.).

Rep is easy compared to TBC or vanilla.
At least now you can choose what instances you run to earn rep in.
There's also a few dailies for most reps out there so you can even do it solo.

I absolutely hate how long it takes to grind rep to exalted for some very specific factions. Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin are top of my list right now - since one of the primary ways to earn rep with these factions no longer exists in-game (turning in 3 tokens). Hydraxian Waterlords requires about 21 weeks to reach exalted once a player has hit revered.
Kryxx Jun 6th 2009 2:58AM
FU** WSG rep! It's sooooooo slow. You have to play 10 times more WSG than all of the others to get to exalted.

The lagg in WG is kinda annoying, if only because it could be so much fun and apart from the honor and pvp rewards, its pointless.
But an actual in game function i don't like would have to be people that whisper me to heal x raid while i'm clearly inside Naxx/Ulduar.

I also hate only spending a few points in a talent, it doesn't feel right for some reason :/
pietrex Jun 5th 2009 8:28AM
It's the same for me! I used to avoid it completely for most of the time and hated anyone who would do otherwise. Now I simply have to have some unfilled talent points for optimal dps, but I try not to look at it too often. ^^
I also hate people who simply take any build which is popular and do not bother to analyse it, even if it has some absolutely useless things for them (e.g. my friend doesn't use Death Strike on his DK, yet he put points in Improved DS).
Another thing difficult for me to bear with is grammar and spelling in the game. OK, I know, not everyone is English (neither I am), but when I see some absolutely common mistakes, I can feel my blood boiling. But if I try to correct them, they flame me.
I'd probably find a few more annoying things, but I don't want to whine too much. ;) After all, if this game was that irritating, I wouldn't be playing it. Fortunately, it has more pluses than minuses.

I hate partial talents too!
Maybe it's OCD...lol...
Swampsquatch Jun 5th 2009 9:03AM
I, too, can't stand partial talents. Recently I sucked it up though putting 3/5 in something and the 2 free talents did benefit elsewhere. Another annoyance I have is you can really only "theorycraft" talent builds for yourself on the PTR. For example lets say I want to see my DPS with 3/5, 4/5, and 5/5 in a talent, that is 100g of respecs plus another 50 to go back to the best out of the three. So I rely on the theorycrafting of others :(

I can think of one instance where not putting full points in a talent is better than full points. For a Prot pally, you want to only put 1 point into improved judgements in order to get the proper cool down rotation
Angus Jun 5th 2009 9:49AM
I had to get over the OCD to be a decent tankadin.
1/2 in improved judgements is all you need. The extra point in is is actually a complete waste. Now we do it in Spiritual Attunement too.
BlackTiger Jun 5th 2009 9:58AM
I like partial talents... Why? It's complicated.
1. it will drive some people mad to understand my abilities.
2. yes, may be I will not be powerful enough in some situations, but in same time I will be more powerful and will have more chances to survive in another. I like to have both arms equally developed, not just right one.
Jorges Jun 5th 2009 10:05AM
Same here, I can't stand partial talents. I learned over time to live with it, but every time I have to do it, i feel like I'm doing something really bad. Also, I too hate the logout timer via /camp.
Another thing I hate are blind invites (someone invites you to a group without even asking), ramdom duels (you're standing in front of an NPC and some noob 10 lvls above you throws you a duel flag). Guilds with stupid names (there's a lot of them in Quel'Thalas).
Trade Channel, I keep it off all the time.

pietrex,
Another thing difficult for me to bear with is grammar and spelling in the game.
srsly? /facepalm
i hope this was intentional to prove the point. it was, right?
Eternauta Jun 5th 2009 12:16PM
Same here! I hate partial filled talents. I looks and feels awkward for me. Though my Prot Pally has to put 1/2 points into improved judgements for rotation purposes, I try to never do it.
zainwolf Jun 5th 2009 12:19PM
I know that recently I fixed my resto druid offspec to only put 4/5 naturalist because 5/5 made the glyphed cast time less than the global cooldown. The freed up talent point gave me extra crit so is a good thing to know when too many points in a talent are wasted and could be giving extra benefit elsewhere.
I tend to prioritize my talents based on intent, work out what's going to have the biggest impact on my chosen role and max those as long as they're not excess and working my way down.
Having spent around 3800g on respecs... it's no wonder I'm poor -but- I know I can be effective in whatever role is required by my guild.
Jehanne Jun 5th 2009 1:12PM
I don't like partially filled talents. My warlock is pure demon and pure destro for her talent builds. I've gotten lectures about how the "emberstone" build is better, but I won't sacrifice gameplay comfort for a little more dps. Having all the talents in build actually gives me more options. Also, I do it for rp reasons. This may sound supernerdish, I've kind of mapped out in my mind how her magic works, what methonds she uses, and why she has the powers she has.

I hate milling herbs.....why dont they just have a 'mill all' option that you can click and mill all herbs in your bag....
oh..and the cooldown for the saltshaker.....why? not like refined deeprock salt is too high in demand in the first place...
and lastly, the quest in the CoT where you have to follow the Custodian of Time around...wow, that sucks.
BlackTiger Jun 5th 2009 8:33AM
No more cd for saltshaker, btw... But I loved it. It was a "sharm" and "cool".
lightningjynx Jun 5th 2009 8:51AM
I completely agree on the milling thing, but it's is just like prospecting for Jewelcrafters. What I don't like about milling is the fact that you have to have 5 of a particular herb, but yet you can get the pigment from different kinds of herbs. I think you should be able to just take the group of herbs and mill them together.
