Addon Spotlight: Postal
Addon Spotlight takes a look at the little bits of Lua and XML that make our interfaces special. From bar mods to unit frames and beyond, if it goes in your Addons folder, we'll cover it here.
I find it hard to believe we haven't featured this mod before, so I guess it's about time. Postal is your mailbox's best friend.
- Your To: field now has a contact list, and will auto-complete all your alts automatically, as well as people you've mailed recently.
- Last name mailed is automatically filled in; great for sending multiple messages to the same person (or if you are constantly mailing stuff to your AH alt, like me).
- Shift-click to take items/money from mail, control-click to return mail, alt-click to add something from your inventory to the current mail.
- "Open all" button (you can also choose to just open all AH mail, etc.)
- Checkboxes to selectively open/return multiple messages at once.
- Shows a summary of money gained after "open all" is done.
- Automatically fill in subject fields when sending money or items, if you leave the subject blank.
Some of these, especially "open all," are so essential they should really be default features. This is all configurable, as well, so if you don't like any of Postal's features, you can easily turn them off.
The mailbox becomes a much more pleasant experience once you have Postal installed. It's a convenience on other characters, but on my bank/AH alt, it's pretty much a necessity. Individually clicking to open, then clicking to take the money/items from each of thirty AH mails gets tedious fast. One click instead of sixty? I'll take it.
Addons are what we do on Addon Spotlight. Let Power Auras Classic show you what you need to know with pretty glowing pictures. See what recipes you don't know with Ackis Recipe List. And remember, Addon Spotlight is fueled by viewers like you, so if you have a mod you think we should take a look at, drop us a line. Filed under: Items, Add-Ons, AddOn Spotlight, Alts

I won't even consider living without this.

You can already shift click to automatically take anything attached from your mail. Much quicker to just hold the mouse over the top message from the AH, and repeatably click however many times it takes to open everything. Apart from that, the other functions look very useful.

I get anywhere from 50 to 300 mails a day from the AH. I would have no fingers if it weren't for this addon.

Ooooow... I used to have this one in a package. Ditched the package and this is the only one i really missed, but somehow never bothered to look for it.
And now you just threw it at me! Weeeeeeeeeeeee, thanks!

I've been using EasyMail since I started playing WoW. I think it does everything that is touted for Postal. I got it from the venerable CosmoUI compilation and it, with a few others, were sorely missed when those good folks closed shop. But, someone picked it up and has been running with it since.
But, it's good to know there is another addon I could turn to if necessary.

Does it work with auctioneers beancounter?
Grim Jun 6th 2009 5:30PM
Yep, it does. :)

yes - but it occasionally DC's me. that maybe the 50000000 message in my inbox however

Yeah, I'm also a long time EasyMail fan, but competition is good :-)

EasyMail is still around? I thought it died along with Cosmos. Hmm...

Sure is http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info11426-EasyMailfromCosmos.html :-)

To add an item from your bags to the current mail, simply right click it. Not sure why this addon has this redundancy. Overall, though, a very nice addon. I'm going to go install this one tonight.

Doesn't CTMod's MailMod do a lot of these features? The only thing that seems unique is displaying a contact list, but the auto-complete names is part of CTMod I think(or built into the defualt UI, not sure).

I've been using this one for at least a year. Yes, it works with Beancounter, and as a result, my AH mule / bank toon absolutely loves it. Dozens of auctions sell / expire, and I just hit "Open All" and they flood her bags.
The only "oops" that I occasionally make with it is that it saves the last person you mailed in the "To" box. This works great when you send stacks of stuff from farming off to your bank toon, but when you just mailed a guildie, and then go to send stuff to your bank...
Let's just say, I've had a number of guildies return several stacks of Saronite Ore with, "Uh...I don't think you meant to send this to me. :) "

Postal + BulkMail2Inbox (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/bulk-mail2inbox.aspx) is my preferred solution - I have several bank alts / storage toons and tend to use mailboxes as additional storage. The addition of BulkMail2Inbox displays my inbox contents in a big list and allows selection of specific items from that list. The 2 addons work together fine with minor setup ingame.

I love this addon and find it essential for doing 1500+ auctions a week. My main problem is that after I get the 50 mails, I have to wait 10-15 seconds before the next 50 show up in the box. Also I would like to get mails in the order of oldest first because they are nearer expiration. These aren't Postal's fault; they seem to be flaws built into the mail server database.
Methinks an overhaul of the mail server is overdue-- certainly a more streamlined auction result could be used (how about ONE mail per day for all succesful auction sales? Or all unsuccessful auction bids? Or better yet, maybe just give you the money without messing with mailboxes).
Aloix Jun 6th 2009 10:12PM
Agreed that the mail server could be fixed. Oldest first, more than 50, and lag is definitely a problem.

I agree with this. I hate messing with mah auction mail, I should just get the gold and that should be the end of it. Not too much of a problem but also getting the gold at the end of an auction instantly (instead of waiting an hour) would own too but I always assumed it made you wait due to server loads if you didn't.

Must have mod for bank toons.
