Breakfast Topic: Cross-character consistency
Most of us probably have alts at this point. On my main server, I have a character of each class (and besides the shaman and the mage, they're all at least level 40). And all of them that have leveled past Feralas have a Sprite Darter Hatchling to love and call their own. I like keeping at least something constant across all the different classes.
I've met people who use consistent naming schemes, which is helpful because it makes it easier to tell which alts go with which mains. I've met people that get the same color shirt on all their alts, although it's hard to see under all that armor. Some people like to take the same leveling path every time (like me), some people like to shake it up.
I even know someone who's leveled the same class to 80 several times - Warrior no less. But Rossi is widely considered to be crazy.
If you have alts, is there anything you always do the same way across all of them?

I like to name all my characters after other characters from books, video games, etc - but obscure enough ones to avoid the whole "Xlegolasx" thing. So I have Orlandeau, Laforet, Kiryl, Salmakia, Agahnim, etc.

i started with naming my characters after varieties of flowers (Florist originally here) so my main is Bluecuriosa, then I figured it wasn't too original. So I switched to gem cuts, so my alts are Brilliant, Trilliant, Asscher, and so forth.

I came to WoW after playing Guild Wars where I named each alt with it's own original name. After doing this for a while, I realized how nice it was when other people had naming schemes that made them recognizable, so when I came to WoW, I named most of my characters something starting with 'Dahk' (i.e. Dahkeus, Dahkstah, Dahkzillah, etc.).

We have guildie who always uses names that start with "L" but she always uses a capital I instead of the L.
e.g. Her main is named Iore, alts are like Ieopard, love, etc...

My main and all of my alts have Arabic names with meanings related to their classes or features of their personality. My rogue has a name that means "whispered conversations," for instance.

I'm a big X-Men nerd, so recently have begun naming my alts as close to X-Men as I can.
For example:
Kurtwagner, Night Elf Rogue
Anole, Human Warlock (Obscure demonic mutant... and people always think his name means something else)
Proudstar, Draenei Shaman
I actually got so into the theme I'm thinking about name-changing my older alts to fit this theme... I really want an Ororo Frost Mage instead of the Slyse I have now... and Colossus the Paladin, Lifeguard the Priest... the list goes deep into the abyss of my nerd-dom.
Wolftech Jun 6th 2009 11:34AM
Wouldnt Ororo be better suited to being a Shaman name? After all, Ororo is Storm from the X-Men :) It would be cool to see a shaman/druid arena team named Ororo and Tchalla.
I also dont see the Proudstar (Thunerbird/Warpath) - Draenei shaman conncetion, but to each his own :)
SliceMessiah Jun 6th 2009 11:42AM
First, Ororo was considered a goddess, she's not very shamanistic at all. I get what you mean though in the sense of shamans being the most "elemental" class, but for me, my mage is Frost spec, and Storm's favorite things to do are either A) hurl lightning, or B) hurl ice. And Storm's my favorite X-Man ever, and I love Mage class to death, so there's heavy favoritism involved as well lol.
And for Proudstar, he was a shamanistic Native American. So, Shaman.
Keep in mind though, a lot of the more obvious names are taken too. Like Nightcrawler or Shadowcat, etc. I tried about 8 names apiece for each character I've named before I got to the one I settled on. It sucks too, because I bet half the people that took those names just made em up out of the blue :P
PS: Whoever Ororo is on Malygos... I'm going to find you and end you. And somehow, I will find a way, loot your name.

John Greycrow (hunter)
Amara Aquilla (shammy)
Nathan Essex (mage)
Pete Rasputin (pally)
Wade Wilson (rogue)
Alex Hayden (lock)
Hank Mccoy (drood, hordeside, level 11)
:P

With a few exceptions like my main (and my first horde alt) from launch, all of my other toons have names from other languages (mostly other languages). Examples include my draenei Paladin Bakanoakuma, my warlock Oninushi, my DK Kogoejini, and a newish hunter alt named Kynigos. All the name mean something close to their class or race (Poorly translated, of course). For example, Bakanoakuma is roughly Japanese for "stupid demon". Kogoejini is Japanese for freezing to death or dying of cold, and my hunter Kynigos is greek for... hunter.
I also have the same base custom UI layout for all my toons using Diablo 3 Dynamic Orbs (from WowInterface), Bartender, LunarSphere, SimpleMinimap, and Chocolate Bar. Maybe one of these days Ill submit it for the interface column on here, should it ever make its return...
Rohannor Jun 6th 2009 11:24AM
I have a consistent naming scheme across all my alts, and I try to have a little fun with it. All have the letters "roh" in it which is part of my last name and what i am called in my guild. Makes me easy to find when I'm on an alt.
Rohannor = warrior
Rohgue = rogue
Prestroh = mage
Fatherroh = priest
Chuckrohst = tauren shammy
Deathroh = undead lock
Nightroh = DK
Woodroh = druid

Seven Warriors so far. I don't see why rolling the BEST class in the game over and over is crazy, though. Genius, maybe! :P
Until recently, all my characters names' were days of the week. Lately most of the new ones have a last name and from the same family; Macfay.

@I even know someone who's leveled the same class to 80 several times - Warrior no less.
"[Raid Leader] [Bolvar]: Saurfang, why'd you roll an alt and make ANOTHER orc arms warrior
Demi Jun 6th 2009 11:40AM
Most of my alts have Demi as the start of their names. Demidru, my main, then there is Demitaur, Demimo, Demilock etc. So no matter what toon I am on, everyone calls me Demi. Works great for grouping as I always know when peeps are talking to me.
Jason Jun 6th 2009 11:42AM
I drink heavily while playing all my characters not just one or two... That count?
themightysven Jun 6th 2009 11:46AM
Horde named after capitols, (Riga, Tirane, Nouakchott, Ljubiana, &c)
Alliance named after Alcohols, (Kaluha, Mezcal, Meade, Schnaaps, &c)
I plan to get them all exalted with Sporeggar for the tabard :)
LadySDevil Jun 6th 2009 11:51AM
Whenever possible, I give them red hair. Each and every character, where that is a possible colour choice, has red hair. (I'm rather annoyed at those that don't have that option as a colour choice.)
slunk Jun 6th 2009 11:59AM
I know someone who always uses a funky character in their character names, like ë, é, or è, etc.
It's the most annoying and vile habit. I really wish they didn't allow non standard characters on the US servers.
You must take extra steps if you wish to whisper these people or invite them to a group. In the end, it limits the social interaction these people have, which goes against MMOs are about.
GormanGhaste Jun 6th 2009 12:07PM
I made sure to give all my alts holiday-themed vanity pets--mana wyrmlings for the lunar festival, bombay cats for halloween, cockatiels for pirate's day, etc. :)

7 Toons.
Most have names that come from Pynchon novels... Mucho, Nefastis, Slothrop, Bodine, Oedipas, Frenesi.
The other two: Kerouac and Banker.
I tend to lvl them 3 at a time: Nefastis, Bodine, and Oedipas hit 70 pretty much at the same time and lvled through Northrend together.
Kerouac, Slothrop, and Mucho are now lvl 77+ but I'm prolly gonna push Mucho to 80 before I get to Kerouac and Slothrop because getting 3 toons to flying (especially when I didn't bother picking up Artisan at lvl 70) is a costly undertaking.
I tend not to follow the same quest path because it expands my knowledge of the game, but if I find a particularly rewarding line or one that suits a toons play style will jump on that line real fast.
But they've all done the Nesingwary questline, Ring or Blood, and Wrathgate. Since Slothrop is a tailor he's knocking off the zones one at a time (he's completed Borean, Howling Fjord, Dragonblight, and Grizzly Hills thus far) for the acheivement and recipe. Kerouac and Mucho are just basically doing the quests for reputation factions at this point (figure they'll be at least 79 by the time they leave Sholazar with Icecrown and the Storm Peaks to get 'em there.
