Breakfast Topic: Cross-character consistency
Most of us probably have alts at this point. On my main server, I have a character of each class (and besides the shaman and the mage, they're all at least level 40). And all of them that have leveled past Feralas have a Sprite Darter Hatchling to love and call their own. I like keeping at least something constant across all the different classes.
I've met people who use consistent naming schemes, which is helpful because it makes it easier to tell which alts go with which mains. I've met people that get the same color shirt on all their alts, although it's hard to see under all that armor. Some people like to take the same leveling path every time (like me), some people like to shake it up.
I even know someone who's leveled the same class to 80 several times - Warrior no less. But Rossi is widely considered to be crazy.
If you have alts, is there anything you always do the same way across all of them?

I have 3 toons @ 80 (priest, warrior, death knight) and an rogue and warlock over 65.
Come to think of it there's nothing consistant about them. No naming convention (Ruinous, Ryft, Maniacal, Fuma, Solinephex), no similar professions, no similar gear or questing style... I guess you could say I hate routine. I enjoy diversification from one toon to the next so it I guess you could say it feels "fresh".

My toons are always memorials for someone I know who died, some format of their name or has part of their name in it. In WoW death is not usually permanent so a fitting memorial.
I always do the quest in Muldore for the lost dog in memory of that little boy who had Cancer even if the toon is NOT tauren, and so far all my toons that are 70 or higher, hit 70 killing boars in the exact same area of Shadow Moon Valley. The first two just ended up that way so I kept up the tradition.

debasermedik- my Paladin
shammiemedik- my Shaman
deathmedik- my Death Knight
sneakmedik- my Rogue
beastmedik- my Huntard
firemedik- my Mage/bank alt
I was a combat medic in the Army for 6 years, so I tend to use medik for everything I do online. Debasermedik was my first- went with Debaser since that was the song playing at the time on iTunes. (Pixies ftw)

most of my characters were named after characters from the web comic I'm part of - The Wotch (http://www.thewotch.com) - So I have Wolfie, LillyOnymous, AnneOnymous. But most of my recent characters have usually been rolled on a ripping good idea. I named my warrior Hiramabiff (Hiram Abiff), who is the legendary Mason who built Solomon's Temple. My druid is Peristrokia. My death knight is Lildeathy - I was just annoyed by the pre-Wrath moans about "pink haired female death knight gnomes" so I rolled exactly that. With pigtails.
Mess Jun 6th 2009 1:58PM
Unmess - Undead
Messauren - Tauren
Messtrosity - Death Knight
Mishmess - Druid
Behemess - Hunter
Now if someone would just give up "Mess" on Ravenholdt, my e-life would be complete!

I am one of those crazy people who have leveled the same class more than once. In BC I had 2 level 70 priests, One a healer one DPS. Now with Duel specs, I have moved one off to another server. There's also a horde priest that I got to the mid 60's who I never finished leveling.
Currently I have 2 level 80 warlocks, one alliance, one horde. They used to be on the same server and had similar names, and both red heads. Without even telling my ally friends I had made the Belf, they knew who I was by my name and look, hehe.
Microtonal Jun 6th 2009 2:13PM
All of my alliance toons are wearing a Red Silk Shirt. When I first started playing, I was going to have all of them sporting one of the 99 names of Allah, but that only lasted for 3 toons. The rest of my ally toons are named after various things, but there's no theme. My horde toons, on the other hand, all have names I dredged from my books about ancient Egypt.
The only other thing I do is make sure that I have the same number of male and female toons.

All of my toon's names start with "Fert", both for Ferret, and a toon I played back when I played Neverwinter Nights, and end with the names of one of my ferrets or rats. My main is FertZane, a shadow priest named for the dark sable ferret I have. The troll hunter, FertKitana, is named for Zane's sister who is very silly. FertDuke, a Silver Tauren Druid is named for a big silver ferret. I really try and make the name of the ferret that is used fit the personality of the toon.

All my gnomes (three total) have A names, all my Draenai (two total) have N names, and all those names end with A - I don't play on an RP server but I do like to give all my toons a backstory and the similar names helped *yes, they are supposed to be sisters, yes I'm a girl irl, yes I have too active of an imagination and perhaps too much time on my hands :P*
This consistency did prove to be difficult when I rolled a tauren druid though :( I tried to name her Moorella and then decided I couldn't be "one of those people" - so her name fits in more w/ my Draenai's now
Terethall Jun 6th 2009 3:24PM
I use the similar naming thing. I rolled my main as a male warlock, and all of my alts have been female since.
My main's name is Terethall (Terror + thrall [meaning minion or slave], seewhatididthere?).
My alts are:
Terethina
Teretha
Terrae
Therellia
Trellathi
Kole Jun 6th 2009 3:57PM
I set up my UI the same (as much as I can with different classes) and I make sure to never have another alt on the same server with the same first letter of the name. (Pain in the ass when I am mailing stuff back and forth...now all I have to do is hit the first letter and their name pops up...)
Come to think of it I think all of my ally toons have the same shirt on...the gray wool shit.

All of my alts are named after Star Wars characters. Katarn, Celchu, Nyax, Solusar, Cbaoth, Rhysode, Kenobi, Durron, and one more I can't remember. I only play one of them a lot and another one is my bank; mostly I just have the characters created so that the name is saved.

I was crushed when visiting Universal Studios that I missed getting my picture taken beside the Mystery Machine with Scooby and Shaggy. My wife wanted to hurry up and get to the next show. Sigh.
Torumin Jun 6th 2009 4:37PM
I always follow the same zone path for leveling (I'm mainly Horde):
(Starter Zone)
Ghostlands + SFK a million times
Hillsbrad/Ashenvale/Thousand Needles + RFK a million times
Arathi + SM a million times
Tanaris/Searing Gorge + ZF a million times
Silithus (and run BRD a million times up to 58)
I personally find that the fastest and easiest way through old world content. Also, I hate Feralas and Desolace with a burning passion.
James Jun 6th 2009 5:27PM
My mains name is Hullabaloo-80 Mage
Crypomnesia- 56 female taruen druid
Blandest-56 female UD priest
Interzone- 56 female cow shaman
Anorexorcist- 68 BE pally
All my alts are song names and my main is the name of an album
Tom Luongo Jun 7th 2009 10:17AM
All of my toons start with 'Zh' which has led to my in-guild nickname of 'Z'... wow, that was original.
Zharnik (lock)
Zhundercleez (DK)
Zhorak (Drood)
Zhamu (Shammie)
Zhazha (Warrior)
Zhofia (Priest)
Zhaftoe (Rogue)
Zhonjonzz (Hunter)
had a pallie named Zhabrielle... got rid of her.

My naming scheme has evolved over the years. I have several names that have been handed down through pretty much every MMO I've ever played (And a lot of 1-player games.) Those names tend to be the most unique ones as they're all gibberish words I came up with. Well, one actually translates to something in Welsh, but the rest are nonsense words. Some names come from characters I've made up for fiction I've written over the years. And a few names have been either been spur-of-the-moment names I've come up with or mythological figures I've found that relate to my character in some way. Actually, my hunter's pets are all named after Greek mythological figures. Artemis - a lynx I tamed in Outland - was my pet of choice all through BC and well into Wrath. About the only way I'd retire her is if I ever managed to snag a spirit beast.
About the only consistent thing in my character naming scheme is that there are only two or three names I'll expressly use for a 'main' character. Those names belong to characters who have been with me for as long as I've been playing MMOs.
