Gentlemens Club achieves Herald of the Titans world first (Edited)
Via Guildox, we've just gotten word that Gentlemens Club of Korgath-US, Hordeside, has just become the world-first achievers of Herald of the Titans. This achievement requires that you defeat Algalon on 10-man difficult with no gear above iLevel 226. In other words, they were not wearing a single piece of Hard-mode Ulduar 25-man gear (While we haven't looked closely at their armory, the achievement would allow for normal mode 25-man gear, though even normal mode 25-man weapons would be off limits). [EDIT: iLevel 226 is actually the item level of gear from Normal mode 25-man Ulduar, not Hard mode as previously stated. It is also the item level of gear that drops from Heroic or 25-man Malygos, Kel'thuzad, and Sartharion with at least 2 drakes up. Hard mode 10-man Ulduar also drop iLevel 226 items, which indicates that the Achievement is intended mostly for 10-man progression.]While 10-man and 25-man raids were technically meant to be seperate tiers of progression, it seems like many raiders freely mix the two, and while that's certainly to be expected, and there's nothing wrong with it, it's cool to see at least a few guilds focus on mastering that path of progression and arguably challenging themselves to at least the 10-man Algalon fight as Blizzard meant it to be fought.
In short, they've managed to proclaim themselves Kings of the 10-man game in Patch 3.1, even if other guilds technically beat them to 10-man Algalon kill itself. Congratulations to everyone involved in the raid!

This achievement requires that you defeat Algalon on 10-man difficult with no gear ABOUT a 226 item level.
Spelling error. Think its meant to be above.
Anyways now this is the real world first algaon kill.
Congrats to all.

i thought in 3.1.2 this was changed to item levels below 232? I know next to nothing about Uld, i just thought i read that somewhere
Etcee Jun 6th 2009 12:58AM
eh, ignore that. I got mixed up. "No items above 226" = "Only items below 232." It's the same thing. I apologize.

What I don't get is why, if blizzard can do an achievement that requires you not have gear above a certain ilevel, do they not use that functionality to keep "cutting-edge" achievements in the game so people who are late to the game can still earn them but people in future gear still can't come back and trivialize the accomplishment?

Because then, that would mean Blizzard has a little something called "Common Sense". And we all know just how much of that they are lacking...

You're incorrect about the guidelines of the achievement. The ilevel is the weapons permitted are 232 and 226 for everything else as to reflect the ilevel increase of 10man hard mode weapons.
It was chaged in the 3.1.3 patch and I don't recall if they said they have planned to update the achievement text in a future patch.

As a preface, I'm a member of GC and participated in the Herald kill... it's a joke.
There is seriously no reason this title or achievement should even exist. It simply involved us swapping 1-2 items each and doing the fight normally. It seriously wasn't any harder at all.
If the achievement stayed at 226 I could see running into issues as your DPS and tanks couldn't wear their new weapons, but even then, it's a joke. We did this cause we were bored, no other reason.

If you are truly member of this guild.. you sir, are idiot. You took perfect opportunity to recruit people, give good advertising, boast in some glory and otherwise advertise your guild in good way of PR. But no, you gave impression that your guild is full of arrogant hardcore jerks wich im sure is not the case, I hope. L2 PR

I believe this is something that we need to make Turpen (Alex's character) do.

Ensidia, PAY CUT

"In short, they've managed to proclaim themselves Kings of the 10-man game in Patch 3.1, even if other guilds technically beat them to 10-man Algalon kill itself."
"Anyways now this is the real world first algaon kill."
"And THATS the first real kill of Algalon Normal vesrion."
Could someone PLEASE explain me what was wrong with Ensidia's proper Algalon kill? Yes, Gentlemens Club gained a great achievement while killing it, grats to everyone, but it still doesn't render out Ensidia's world first. After all, this is just an achievement along many others. Having few itemlevel lower gear in some slots does not matter much, most likely only some of the raid had to change a couple of items to manage to get low enough. I really don't think losing few stats did the boss so much harder after all.
Don't get me wrong, big props to Gentlemens Club. But not for the achi, just for killing Algalon in the first place :)

For the simple reason that 10-man Ulduar is tuned for people who only have 10-man gear. Doing a new 10-man in 25-man gear just shows you are over geared not necessarily better.
Considering 10-mans are meant for the more casual raiders it isn't really much of an achievement for those high end guilds to down a boss in them.
TBH it is barely above bragging about world first heroic-dungeon kills.
Groth Jun 6th 2009 5:02AM
BIg grats to GC, but as has been mentioned, unless they werent wearing any 25 man kit, its hardly the "real world first" or the Kings of the 10-man game.
That being said, awesome achievement, well done!

Bravo. Congrats on them, and nice to hear someone other than Ensidia doing something.

I think there is something fishy going on here. If you look at the GM's achievements you will see (at the time of this posting) with in like two hours first kills on hard modes of: Yogg-saron, Gen Vezax, Mimiron, and Freya (with the kill her in under 20 mins of killing the first creature). I also question that because those are very complicated fights and by looking at his statistics you will see that is his second time (so before this he only killed them once) Gen Vezax, Yogg-saron, and Freya. It was also his 3rd time killing Mimiron.

Deadheadd doesn't normally raid with us. 10-mans are easy. Get over it.
SmokeTheBear Jun 6th 2009 4:05AM
Until achievements like this rule out ALL 25-man gear of the same tier, such achievements are meaningless. So they went into Ulduar-25 and got geared up on normal mode bosses and then went and killed Algalon-10. It's utterly meaningless except in the context of being a very early Algalon kill. Grats to them on beating Algalon, but unless someone can prove that they were not wearing ANY 25-man Ulduar gear, they're not the king of 10-man raiding, and no such crowning achievement exists.
The Claw Jun 6th 2009 4:43AM
The 10-man hardmode gear is equal to the 25-man normal mode gear. You have to beat the 10-man hardmodes to even access Algalon. Therefore saying "unless someone can prove that they were not wearing ANY 25-man Ulduar gear" is simply moronic, it's like saying "it's only a real achievement if you only wear white cloaks, if any raid members have black cloaks, you're not king of 10-man raiding".
