SK Gaming wins MLG Columbus

Some of the teams didn't do so well despite expectations, such as two-time MLG winners Fnatic, who were playing without their Warrior, Rhaegyn. Fnatic did rather poorly, playing a Rogue/Warlock/Shaman comp that simply couldn't match up against the dominant RMPs or even eMG's Death Knight/Hunter/Paladin. Evil Geniuses also played below par, but there really have to be teams that occupy the bottom of the standings. The good news is that teams collect points through all MLG legs to tally at the end of the season, so we might see some changes in the next MLG stops.
All the matches were streamed through three different sites via Octoshape, but the streams were choppy and often stalled more than it did in the first two days of the tournament. It came to the point where the matches were simply unwatchable, which is a shame because there were some pretty good games on the last day. The shoutcasters did an excellent job commentating on the matches but camerawork and the pace of the games were just too fast at times to appreciate. Arena Tournaments could benefit greatly from instant replays, slow motion, and camera angles beyond the third person view. Replays should be available on GotFrag soon.

FYI, 95% of the player base doesn't care about crap like this

I think the editors here are well aware that most of the readers are more PvE focused, but THANK YOU for your insight.
Good to see that silly comp didn't win, albeit they lost to an RMP...

You Sir, must be a skilless PVE scrub :D

so go read All The Worlds A Stage and leave this conversation to the 5% who do care. welcome to the World Wide Web. everybody get's to read about the thing they care about. I'm sure you can find a site dedicated to made up statistics. have fun.
MasterAsh Jun 8th 2009 1:32AM
Honestly, I don't care as it is. . .
But if there were some extra camera people in-game to properly capture action along with fluid, knowledgeable commentary, I'd certainly watch. Maybe even pay to watch if its done so well that I could learn something from it all.

Bob is right.
Max Jun 8th 2009 11:38AM
Sorry to break it to you bob, but some of us actually enjoy some competition in our games. You know, something a little more interesting than look up X strat online and dont stand in the fire and then boss dies.
But you have fun beating those loot pinatas.
MasterAsh Jul 10th 2009 10:54AM
Thank you so much, Max.
Even if it meant constant learning on my part to POSSIBLY get what I want in this game, I'd rather that than simply knowing EXACTLY how to do my job in SURGICAL detail EVERY ENCOUNTER to get what I want.
(Yeah. . .I'm an emotional chick, what of it?)

Wait, is over? Does that mean MMO Champion will finally take down that obnoxious stream and might start getting pageviews back?
Nathanyel Jun 8th 2009 4:56AM
It's still there... I don't know why they're doing this, a large image link instead of this flash/octocrap monster would've been enough, or - god forbid - something that only starts loading the octo plugin when the users clicks something in the flash applet, because, you know, flash's been known for dynamically loading content.
I remember when WoR posted a video, could've been bosskill or pvp related, that started itself on load, unlike the known behavior of only starting when the user clicks the play button. Huge complaints arose, and the video was converted into a link shortly after.

I recommend Firefox + NoScript. I didn't even know what you were talking about until I went to MMO Champion and checked to see what NoScript was blocking.
eSports = *sigh*

A lot of matches went by far too quickly. SK did things with RMP that I didn't think possible, like taking down a pally before he reacted to bubble, bursting a DK down in the space of an imp counterspell silence, just ridiculous. A world of difference from BC double healer, drain, WLD stuff.
Zach Jun 7th 2009 11:27PM
Not to take away anything from SK Gaming's play, but any time a Paladin goes down without getting Divine Shield off, that's the Paladin's fault entirely.
Dart Jun 8th 2009 1:11AM
Sorry Zach, but I disagree. In a 3v3 situation, a lusted ret Paladin and rogue had taken my 1100 res paladin from 80% to 0% in the gcd of a holy shock (had sacred up on myself). Granted I have 400 haste only, but burst is WAY too high still.
Domilol Jun 8th 2009 7:51AM
Also disagree as well with Zach, as the above poster has mentioned it was a GCD that killed him, he got caught in a GCD and died before it came back up, these players aren't idiots but I don't think anyone was expecting them to drop a pally from 70% to 0 in the span of a GCD, a TotT'd shatter shaving off 60% of the pallys HP was pretty stupid.

How old are those kids? XD They are so cute :3
Sanm Jun 8th 2009 4:12AM
That got me thinking. Are those the guys that are getting those world first achievements? Endgame raiders that rush thro content and probably sleep for 3 hours in day when theres new raid?
rudeboidl Jun 8th 2009 12:02PM
PVE =/= PVP.
If they are in good guilds, they are more than likely just casuals in them.
Agerath Jun 7th 2009 10:31PM
Lol, look at them.
Bubsa Jun 7th 2009 11:04PM
Don't know about you, but the guy nearest to us in the photo has a mug reminiscent of GC
