quite simple really. RETRIBUTION is too prominant in the LOWER arena brackets, meaning more noobs have to partner with non heal-bot paladins and see their losses as the fault of the paladin for even having a non heal-bot talent tree. The solution is to, naturally, nerf retribution moar, thus "encouraging" paladins in every bracket to play heal-bot moar just as blizzrd intends (and will continue the nerfs until it becomes reality)

I guess I'm not too upset about the nerf, but the rationale is really disturbing to me.If it's balanced for the higher brackets as GC said, how is it not balanced in the lower brackets? It's the same game, the same classes, same mechanics etc. It's just mind boggling.

"If it's balanced for the higher brackets as GC said, how is it not balanced in the lower brackets? It's the same game, the same classes, same mechanics etc. It's just mind boggling."Short answer: Balance changes due to gear.Longer answer: Higher levels of content lead to higher levels of gear in both PvE and PvP. In PvP, higher level gear has large amounts of stamina and resilience. In lower brackets, the players have comparatively little stamina and resilience, meaning that you can win a lot of matches by dealing as much damage to your opponent in as little time as possible. That is why you tend to see high-burst specs in the lower brackets, oftentimes equipped with PvE gear in order to maximize their DPS stats. At the top brackets of PvP, however, opponents have much higher levels of stamina and resilience. Health pools get bigger, critical strikes (the lifeblood of burst specs) get smaller. Burst specs do less damage, and so they lose. Since burst specs can't burst as much, fights last longer and other mechanics become much more important, especially healing and crowd control. That's why all those Retribution Paladins magically transform into Holy Paladins as you move up the arena rankings. It's why Rogue/Mage/Priest has been a top 3v3 composition for almost as long as there's been PvP.Addendum: This is not a commentary on the nerfs, since I do not PvP. It is just answering the question of how balance suddenly changes as a person moves to higher level content.

Maybe a lot of paladins switched to ret because they resented being dismissed as "heal-bots."
