Personally I think it should have been left at 40/60/70. It was a major achievement for a level 40 to have saved for his first mount by 40. Well the only difference now is that I'll have flying for my druid sooner and have an epic sooner for my level 40.

It's really not, I bought my main riding training some time mid december and with herbalism/inscription I had more than enough gold to buy both my land mounts.

Amaxe, I'm 100% with you here. Changes like this hurt me in a way because I remember how epic saving up for all of these things was for me on my very first character. These are aspects of the game that personally I loved, even for my alts, that they're gutting.

Then don't use it. Don't buy your mount until 40/60/70. When you DO buy your mount, throw the difference between the new cost and old cost away. Then it'll be exactly like it was before, and you'll only be inconveniencing yourself.

The fact that other people will use this feature will make everyone use it - you can't party with some mounted players while you are running. This change ruins the low level fun of the game, mounts at level 30 were to early imo. Blizz spoils the big breakthroughs people had during their leveling. One such moment was getting the mount, normal and epic... now it's all trivial like training any skills.Making the game more easy for alts- yes, making the game more trivial and dumb for newcomers, no.

I'd agree that saving for my lvl 40 mount was a big thing on my first char. But then I think of the Barrens and wish I could roll a char with a mount at lvl1.

@Sirg: How, exactly, does letting level 20 players ride around "ruin the fun of the game"? It's not like the mounts give a combat boost, or turn quests in for you. All it means is running back and forth across those lowbie zones for the umpteenth time doesn't take *quite* so much time.Having re-acquainted myself with a low-level alt this week, it's amazing how many of those low-level quests (on Horde-side at least) are "Run to the opposite end of the zone, [talk with someone|use item|acquire item], then run all the way back, only to be sent back to the exact same place again". All that running isn't exactly what I'd call "fun", regardless of whether it's on foot or mounted - it's just that on foot it's slightly more tedious.

@alchI said I *preferred* the old way. I'll use the new way of course, but it seems like less of an accomplishment. I was commenting on how it no longer feels like "I earned this" as it did in the pastHonestly, is it possible to have different opinions about what WoW does without being deemed a heretic by the fanboys?

attaining a mount is an accomplishment for you? come now, the game is far too vast and diverse to make the gaining of a mount as some sort of accomplishment. if anything, attaining the mount is your means of opening the game world up to find the real accomplishments. in that regard, maybe you could consider ungimping yourself as some sort of 'accomplishment', but not me. anyone who's had to endure the original 40 levels (and in the olden days, mindlessly grinding mobs to even scrape enough gold together to buy the overpriced mount with no riding skill training) would probably not miss the old mount system. if anything, this will actually make me want to go back to leveling my sub-60 alts.

But now you have to solo to 40/60/70 and only can get groups above 70. Because of that it is much more of a pain to do anything including get a mount. Less blue gear since you don't get it from dungeons, which means slower levelling. Less AH activity (except maybe for mats) it's more of a single player RPG until you hit 70.Some pieces of gear I keep around, like the empror's robe I got from BRD having done it way back when, I hated that room before the emperor so much! Some other trinkets like the key to Onyxia and other things you only get after a long arderous process. All those "badges of achievement" in my eyes I keep in my bank.Think of it this way : now we can complain to the new players "when I was your level we had to RUN to swamp of sorrows, and there were only 5 quests when we got there! And we had to save money for 40 levels, and had to do AV for months to hit exalted so we could afford the cheapest epic mount, and back then AV took 3 days and you could only get in on weekends. Now here's a nickel go buy me some perriwhistles and a root beer" lol

You can only truly appreciate the glory of a mount if you have suffered first.
