The Queue: Buzz buzz
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.Today's edition of The Queue is a pretty short one, but it's an important one. I'm making a change to the format of this column, which will be explained in our very first question of the day. Why is it so short? When you read the answer to the question, you'll understand. I just ran out of steam after pulling that off.
elstor asked...
"What's with the music lately? Why did you have to start this?!"
It's something we did for giggles once, people liked it, we kept doing it just for kicks. I'm pretty bored of it though! We should pick a new Whatever of the Day instead of songs. Extreme Stunt of the Day?
Read this edition of The Queue while doing a kickflip out of a burning building and through the moving blades of a helicopter, then land in the middle of the ocean where you will wrestle a shark. While covered in bees.
Jay asked...
"When do rare mobs in vanilla WoW respawn? Do they respawn at the same time every day? Do they respawn after a server restart? Are there any exceptionally oddball rare mobs (say, once every 4 days)?"
As far as I know, there's no rule to how rare mobs as a whole work. Each one has its own little respawn rules, though I somewhat have my doubts that any of the rare mobs in Vanilla WoW are on a 4-day timer. Though I suppose there's a chance of that, I don't know. If you're hunting down a specific rare mob, I suggest just going to Wowhead and reading the comments for that particular mob. That will serve you much better than trying to hunt down one solid rule for them all. There simply isn't one.
Jason asked...
"While we're on the subject, do you think the other faction leaders will ever get their own unique models, like Sylvanas and Velen?"
This is something they talked about during the Wrath of the Lich King beta, when they pushed through the changes for Varian and Sylvanas. It was on the beta forums though, so I'm not sure I would be able to find it again. Essentially, what was said was they plan to update all of the racial leaders, but it will happen gradually and probably when those leaders are filling a big role in the story.
If Thrall is ever actually leading the Horde again and not letting Garrosh pee in his Cheerios all day, Thrall will probably get his upgrade. He really needs it, too. Both the upgrade and the stop-peeing-in-my-Cheerios attitude, really. It would be nice to have Thrall in charge again.

On second thought, back to music please.
Saint Jun 11th 2009 8:51PM
Yes, I agree.
I really enjoy having someone give me music to listen to. I listen to all genres equally and really loved how odd the choices could be for music of the day. Little too heavy on the jazz this past week, but I live.
Seriously, the music was one of my favorite parts of The Queue.

Careful- someone's kid is going to try one of these stunts & you're going to get sued. And you'll lose.
Has the McDonald's Coffee Incident taught you nothing? O_o
Mutak Jun 12th 2009 11:28AM
I really hate the fact that the McDonald's coffee lawsuit has become the shorthand for frivolous lawsuits. People just don't know the details. This was not just an "ow - that stings" injury. She had third degree burns on her genitals causing permanent tissue damage and scarring. The coffee was so hot that it melted the polyester fibers in her clothes. McDonald's had been warned before about having the temp too high. They knew it was dangerous and they kept on doing it until someone sued them for it.

But the cup said it was hot!
swampsquatch Jun 12th 2009 12:33PM
I HEARD, she was holding a cup of coffee in between her legs while she drove because her car (probably something like a Ford Pinto) didn't have a cup holder. Is all of that McDonalds fault? It WAS and IS a frivolous lawsuit.
Ithiliel Jun 12th 2009 3:41PM
@Mutak:
She also sat in the coffee for about a minute and a half. Doesn't sound like a lot of time until you time it out for yourself and think about how fast you'd be moving with hot coffee spilled in your lap. The car was parked, too, so it wasn't a matter of finding somewhere to pull over. She wasn't driving, it was either her son or grandson.
What gets me about the case isn't the frivolity, but the fact that the lawyer who took her case took actions to make McDonald's reduce the temperature of the coffee to an acceptable level, and then a while later took up *another* hot-coffee lawsuit against McDonald's. Apparently the acceptable temperature wasn't acceptable enough?

When discussing new content coming out, why does Blizzard always play so close to the chest? For example, the mount changes are due to be "in the next major content patch" which everyone knows is going to be patch 3.2, why don't they just say it?
elvendude Jun 11th 2009 6:38PM
One reason (and certainly not the only one) is that they have gotten burned several times by announcing something and then having a backlash when it wasn't delivered exactly when/how the announced it. There's a lot of discussion about this with Ghostcralwer and 3.1. If you remember, they did some pretty extensive class change previews, but not all of the changes panned out, and they took a lot of flack for that. So they are back to playing it close to a chest.
This is also the source of the "Ghostcrawler promised me a pony" meme. Because Ghostcrawler promised us all ponies. =)
vazhkatsi Jun 11th 2009 7:05PM
well, now you get a pony, or at least a younger mount?
Raz Jun 12th 2009 4:54AM
elvendude pretty much summed it up, but if I may add two words to his point:
Dance Studios.
Trenz Jun 12th 2009 5:17AM
the dance studios were an april fools joke
Vladeon Jun 12th 2009 8:46AM
I don't know if anyone ever noticed this or not, but when you add a mounted player to your party with them being out of range, their portrait appears to be a pink pony. So, in effect, we all did get our ponies, we just don't get to enjoy them.

I know the 4 world dragons from vanilla wow are on some insanely high respawn timer. Its like 3 days or so.
Darthregis Jun 11th 2009 6:10PM
Thrall does not eat Cheerios for breakfast. He eats gnome babies.
Theo Jun 11th 2009 6:21PM
no, thats what garrosh eats
Worcester Jun 11th 2009 6:22PM
And he's just fine with Garrosh peeing on Gnome babies. No one would think that's a bad idea.
Kirklees Jun 11th 2009 7:13PM
No, you're thinking of Torg. King Torg eats the babies. Easy mistake though! :)
