Phat Loot Phriday: Fang of Oblivion

Name: Fang of Oblivion (Wowhead, Thottbot, WoWDB)
Type: Epic Unique One-hand Dagger
Damage/Speed: 271-407 / 1.80 (188.3 DPS)
Attributes:
- +47 Agility, +54 Stamina, and a Yellow Socket, which will probably let you add to crit, hit or haste, depending on what you need more of, with a +4 Agility socket bonus.
- +1869 Feral attack power, so you can do more damage in your new kitty form.
- Improves crit by 29, haste by 24, and attack power by 80. So yes, this is a damage dagger all the way. Rogues get the edge (get it? "Edge"?), but anyone who can wield daggers and likes stabbing with them will benefit. Hunters, you could use it, but there's better stuff out there for you -- even dual wielding with something else, there are polearms that will give more agility and more stats you want.
Getting Rid of It: You would sell something made from gaseous balls of orbital fire? Oh, you would? Well in that case, a vendor will give you 23g 84s 13c for it (which seems cheap to us, but hey, you're the one selling it). Or it'll disenchant into multiple galaxies of space energy, all conveniently contained in an Abyss Crystal.

I know that fast OH's are no good for ENH Shaman any more... but damn, if they were viable, I would so have this for my main. It's gorgeous and the stats are nice for an ENH Shaman.

Amazing how much of a difference there is between what a mutilate rogue and an enh shaman looks for in weapon speeds. For a mutilate rogue, this would be a nice, slow main hand weapon. Far too slow to even think about as an off hand.

Well they've gone back and forth for ENH Shaman. In 2.0 when we started DW we wanted fast off hands, then they put the cool down in 2.2 (I think) so we wanted slow OH so the less-powerful OH wouldn't steal WF Crits. In 3.0 fast offhands with FT were viable, even desirable. Even caster weapons were good. THen in 3.0.8 I think they normalized FT and we were back to slow OH with FT, which is what the devs say they want.
I remember when I was raiding Kara and got [Gorehowl].... I would have cried to have that when I was using two blues (one of them the Ring of Blood fist, which was the closest you could get pre-raid to an acceptable offhand post 2.2). But no, no viablity for that. ::le sigh::

I would love this weapon, too bad it is unique. i would love to dual wield stabby stabby with this thing. Maybe they will have a dagger made of stars for one hand and a dagger made of moons for the other. One day the will fill in the hearts, clovers, and horseshoes.

All I'm wondering about is, why doesn't it have a flavor text ? ;(
Surely a weapon composed out of several galaxies of space matter should have one!

So sexy.

"+1869 Feral attack power, so you can do more damage in your new kitty form."
Don't you mean much, much less damage? Ferals can use daggers, yes, but since they can't actually dual wield, you'd be stuck with an extremely sub-par amount of Feral Attack Power as compared to, well... almost any 2 hander. The only way this would be a DPS upgrade for a feral is if they are using a level 80 blue, and considering where it drops...

Seriously Mike, I know you're not an expert, but damn.

Dear Phat Loot Phriday,
Posts that give a picture and stats for an item are no more informative than an in-game link. This can be good information to share. The column however could be more interesting if there was a little more to it than a loot picture and stats.

Yes a druid could equip this and gain 1869 Feral attack power from it, but for the love of Cenarius don't roll on this. No feral druid uses a 1 hander seeing as we cant dual wield. Now if blizzard ever crazy and let druids dual wield... well then YOINK!

There's a caster dagger with the same model that drops from hard mode Mimiron and 25-man Algalon: the Starshard Edge. http://www.wowwiki.com/Starshard_Edge
Maleven Jun 12th 2009 7:29PM
Also, it only drops on Hard mode, you should clear that up.
Xingua Jun 12th 2009 7:54PM
As Maleven said, this drops from Steelbreaker, which is the hardest version of Iron Council. It drops if you kill him last, which requires a lot of DPS combined with tanks able to take a few powered up fusion punches.
And I agree with Roguedubb that Phat Loot Phriday is pretty mediocre, especially this week.

Here's hoping I'm not the only one who gets the movie reference.
