Bubble Lead may be fairly useless outside its ability to utterly wreck Dr. Wily's machine at the end of the game, it is, by a wide margin, not the worst weapon in the classic Mega Man series. That honor goes to Top Spin. I mean, come on. It's a weapon that makes you spin. In the air. And in the few instances it is effective against an enemy, you're essentially going to be crashing into the enemy while spinning, loosing life in the process. Playing Mega Man 3 growing up, I always wondered why instead of the gimmicky, useless spin attack they didn't give us shootable tops like the ones Top Man uses during the fight. At least those could be considered useful.
But enough about Mega Man. Good column over all. I disagree on Amplify Magic and and Mana Shield, though think both could be reworked to be one hundred percent better. But I fully agree on how useless Arcane Fortitude is. Every time I look at this skill, I think to myself, "Hey, I'm swimming in intellect. A bit of armor would be nice to get out of the deal." Fortunately, common sense kicks in rapidly and I think, "No, no. All that will do for me is keep me alive maybe one more second while a Death Knight hammers me into the ground." And then I take something more useful.
As bloated as the arcane tree is, at least we can count ourselves lucky that poor, incomparably useless Wand Specialization is gone. Gone, but not forgotten.
