Breakfast Topic: Do you buy just because of the WoW brand?
So Mountain Dew is pushing Game Fuel, the site has been live for a couple of weeks and now Battle Bots have gone live for all you lucky people in the US who asked for one. Now I love the WoW brand as much as anyone but that doesn't mean I want to quaff strange liquids in the hope of winning prizes. It makes me wonder, does seeing that shiny WoW logo on a bottle, a mouse mat or some other item of merchandise make you more likely to buy it? Do you think that the WoW logo brings with it some kind of quality mark that sets such an item out as being worthy of your purchase? Drop your thoughts into the comments box below.

If it's something cool that has to do with the game, like say a button my with class on it or a jacket, then yeah I may buy it if it seems fit. But I won't be buying anything like plain white socks just because there's an orc on the package.

Indeed. If it's a piece of art, I'm there. If it's something related to one of my favorite character race/classes, maybe. But just silly collectible merchandising, nope.
That said, I tried the Halo game fuel and it was terrible. I haven't seen the WoW versions yet, but I imagine it's the same.

I got them to try out the flavor. Definitely like the horde one. Of course I like the Code Red so the horde one is a little different version of that.

I'm an alliance guy all the way, but I have to be honest, the horde mt. dew flavor is so much better.
Umehte Jun 15th 2009 9:24AM
Yup... green poo... fun!
So I tried both flavors, and the alliance tasted a bit off, like they were going for pomegranate or something.
Horde wins hands down, the slight cherry flavor adds a little bite. Not as good as regular mountain dew though, but still leaves that nice sugary film in the mouth.
Now if you really want me to buy WoW Juice, then bring out neutral "Goblin Grease", make it orange and bring back "Live Wire" ... I think it was hard to beat orange flavored dew...

Glad to know I wasn't the only one affected with the green poo.
Do I smell a new WoW quest in-game?
Yeng Jun 15th 2009 11:00AM
Fel-poo!
Erogroth Jun 15th 2009 11:11AM
Well that explains that green poo. Couldn't figure out what I ate. Thanks everyone.
I did buy the dew for the wow logo. I wanted to try it. I liked it so I keep on buying it. Red is better but blue is not bad.
NOTE: I only had green poo after the first time. My body adjusted to it i think

Fun fact:
The blue/red dyes used in most food products to make a violet/purple colour is well known to turn your feces a sickly green colour.
Go eat purple grapes. Or drink a purple Gatorade. Or Grape Soda. Or anything of that purple hue.

they don't need to bring back Livewire, they still make and sell it in most parts of the country
that being said, it's my least favorite Mountain Dew flavor, other than maybe revolution or whatever the 3rd dewmocracy one was (Supernova should've won)
kev-dogg Jun 17th 2009 11:40AM
I came to the comments here JUST to point out that the Blue game fuel has a LOT of dye in it, and yes, it makes the dookie green.
i'm glad i wasn't the first to experience this. o_0

When I see the WOW-logo on something they're trying to sell that's not the WOW-software (like xpacs) then I see a just one more weak attempt to beat some more gold ...I mean Euros out of my pockets ...

Indeed. Imprinting the WoW brand on an existing product seems pretty lame to me... especially something so far removed from the WoW universe as soda... however... what if WoW branding was applied to items that do exist in some form in WoW? What if you could actually buy Darkbrew Ale, or Papa Hummel's Biscuits, or some Mana Strudel (pre-packaged laid out on a nice little dish)?
It's pretty much known by now that WoW's audience tends to be somewhat older, and while some may find the Mtn Dew thing amusing, I think most of WoW's audience would see it and think "Hrm. Blizz turned Mtn Dew purple and slapped a Nelf on the label. Fun." WoW marketing could easily be profitable. I know I'd get a kick out of feeding Papa Hummel Biscuits to my dog, and snacking on Mana Strudel. I'd probably carry a few around so that if I was going someone I'd probably stop everyone just before we went in and pass them around to make sure everyone was full up. ;^)

Prints like these decreases the likeliness of me buying it. WoW is WoW and soda is soda. 'nuff said.

I have chugged Mountain Dew while gaming since I played D&D in high school so that is nothing new.
Dah Jun 15th 2009 8:12AM
Personally, I like MtDew, so when I bought a 12 pack of the new wow branded Dew it was partly because I liked the drink and partly because the marketing campaign reminded of the product (which in turn re-sparked my interest).

this
Kirothen Jun 15th 2009 8:14AM
I got a case because it was like buy 3 12 packs of Pepsi and get a 12 pack of the Game Fuel free. Other than that, I would have bought 1 12 pack for the hell of it. Why not support the game that you love. If my little purchase helps the game continue that much longer then so be it.
