Need flying mounts? Mei Francis has you covered
Patch 3.1.2 brought it with the usual slew of undocumented changes, but here's one that appears to have flown under the radar for a while -- Mei Francis, Dalaran's exotic mount vendor, now sells basic Outland flying mounts (read: gryphons and wyverns) at both regular and epic speeds. This is great news for, well, anybody who doesn't want to go to Outland! I know that when my shaman hit 77 and I bought all of my flying skills, it was a pain to have to go to Shadowmoon Valley to buy my mount, so I can certainly appreciate the change.
Of course, there are even more mount changes in store -- a 150% speed flyer at 60, for example -- so this is obviously part of the devs' mission to streamline the leveling and traveling process for players of all levels. A welcome and unexpected change for quality of leveling life -- that's what I like to see.

Because it makes me feel better. :)
But seriously, I -only- have 5600g on my DK right now, and if I want epic flying + the DK mount + cold weather flying + dual spec, I'm well short of what I need. Every little bit of savings helps.

What I would like to know is once 3.2 hits and we can get our alts regular flying at 60, will those alts have to travel to SMV to get the mounts/training or will we be able to get them from some place "safer" for a level 60?
Siddaru Jun 15th 2009 3:27PM
Flight trainers and vendors are being added in Thrallmar and Honor Hold.

Its slightly odd that in the next major content patch, you'll be able to ride a 150% speed flying mount through Outland straight from level 60 (a 58 - 70 continent), yet you still have to ding 77, and pay 1000 gold on top of that to fly a flying mount through Northrend (a 68 - 80 continent.)
Considering the 1000 gold required is quite a big ripoff, even at 77 considering the amount of gold you earn from questing in Northrend zones, why not reduce the price and level requirement of, or remove Cold Weather Flying?
AyaJulia Jun 15th 2009 2:48PM
They don't let you fly until the end of Northrend because Northrend is current content. When we're at patch 4.1 or 4.2, I suspect cold weather flying will be nuked.
Remen Jun 15th 2009 2:51PM
The idea with these changes is to speed up old content and let you get to the new content more quickly. (Without having you skip the first 55 levels) They aren't looking to increase the pace in Northrend, they just want you to be there sooner.

Level 60 flying will be available at Thrallmar/whatever the alliance base it..
can't tell i don't play alliance, right :)

If I feel like buying such mounts, I'll probably go back to smv or hellfire anyways. I love outland, and I take any escuse I can to go back there. The old fishing dailies (for water walking pots) get me back there every day :)
elfennau Jun 15th 2009 2:41PM
You know you also get water walking pots from the NR fishing dailies, yeah? :)
jurandr Jun 15th 2009 2:57PM
Elfennau, wowhead also says the same thing but I have yet to receive one. I never was one for luck.
AyaJulia Jun 15th 2009 3:57PM
Really? I only do the fishing daily about once every 2-3 days, but I have nearly two stacks of water walking crap. :\
Darush Jun 15th 2009 2:33PM
More importantly: since Mei Francis is Kirin Tor, you actually get a Kirin Tor rep discount on these mounts! Can save a few gps.
Avan Jun 15th 2009 3:46PM
I think that's the better part of Mei selling mounts. Who cares about not having to tae a trip out to SMV, you can get the mount cheaper in Dalaran. How Mike failed to mention that in the article astounds me.
Fritz Jun 15th 2009 2:34PM
1000g for cold weather flying is nothing. As long as you stay out of AH, and sell all the stuff you pickup, you'll be rolling in cash. I know that I had about 2k when I finally hit 77 on my druid, and that was just from vendor trashing and quest turn ins.
impurezero Jun 15th 2009 2:40PM
No kidding. I'm currently level 57, and I have about 750 gold right now. Of course...I've got quite the Aquamarine raquet going on in the AH.
Candina@WH Jun 15th 2009 2:36PM
Yeah, but can Horde by carrier pidgeons and Alliance buy wyverns?
Since this is a 'neutral' vendor....
elfennau Jun 15th 2009 2:42PM
No. You see mounts for your faction only on the vendor.
Tirrimas Jun 15th 2009 2:48PM
"Neutral" only means she won't beat you up if you ask for a Big Mac instead of a Whopper. ;)
Kemikalkadet Jun 15th 2009 2:55PM
Well technically they did, Mei Francis is Kirin Tor so you'll get faction discount. And the windriders weren't exactly expensive.. 100g for regular and 200g for epic before discounts is a small fraction of the traning cost.
Superthrust Jun 15th 2009 3:07PM
woow....look at all the posts of the users who don't swallow their tounges and agree with the editors...they got downvoted...this crap should stop...
