Around Azeroth: It's only a paper moon
Jed sends in this screenshot of his paladin taking a nostalgic ride through Westfall at nighttime. Remember the early leveling quests in places like Westfall and Redridge? Where you didn't have all this story and meaning, and all you had to do was deliver messages from one lazy jerk questgiver to another, or try to find a boar with an intact liver among dozens of boars with hepatic failure? On second thought, the early levels can go hang. Chasing Arthas across Northrend is way more fun.
Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, gold seller ads, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran.

It really can be a beautiful world if you stop and take a moment to look.

It's true. This picture makes me feel the character's longing for a more peaceful time. He thinks of when he was a child and his daily chores around the farm were the hardest thing he had to deal with. All of that is gone now, but perhaps if the moon still rises in the same sky, there is hope to return to that life one day.

that's a nice interpretation of the photo, which was already a beaut of a shot to begin with. i tend to play only at night, so i mostly see night skies. i think the nighttime azeroth is really gorgeous, too.

Not To be a Hater but..
Why is this pic even worth internet space?
Some crap geared pally, being bored, in one of the most boring times in the game.
He should be doing dailies or Q'n for BG's Not trolling for lowbies to gank.
1) Why would he submit this?
2) Why would Wow.com post it? is it really gonna be that slow of a news day?
3) Why Doesn't this kid just log off and play something fun?

Why be a troll?

Why would a human pally be trolling for lowbies to gank in Westfall? Horde lowbies should be far away from Westfall.

"Why would a human pally be trolling for lowbies to gank in Westfall? Horde lowbies should be far away from Westfall."
Perhaps he's one of those people that challenges characters 70 levels below to them to duels "for fun".

"Where you didn't have all this story and meaning, and all you had to do was deliver messages from one lazy jerk questgiver to another"
I'd rather deliver messages around Tirisfal glades than watch Thrall solo Varmithras any day of the week.

Knyle, people like you are the reason I rarely log into WoW anymore. EVE is my new ground.
Michael Jun 16th 2009 10:35AM
Is he not wearing pants? Seems weird.
LloydPancakes Jun 16th 2009 10:47AM
Hey,
I think the author knocks a little on the story in the lowbie areas. I remember playing my Human rogue through the early quests and knew that the defias were basically taking over westfall by scaring the people away, that we were fighting a losing battle against the orcs in Red ridge and that some undead scourge was overtaking duskwood... a lot of story and lore there. The best part is you learn that none of the groups know the other is in danger until you go out seeking aid. In fact the red ridge quests led to me having justification to enter UBRS and MC and BWL.
Damn that does make me a bit nostalgic haha.

Alot of that is true but might want to pick a different area than Westfall. Between the story of the Defias Brotherhood (with VanCleef) and the pass through of Stalvan... there is some decent lore to be found there.
The Hammer Jun 16th 2009 10:54AM
Gosh! It's a shame none of those lowbie quests sent you to take out the nefarious leaders of crime syndicates who lived in mines deep under Westfall. It'd been great to have had a quest chain to investigate just who the man behind all the abusing of the land was, and then, whilst on the way, discover their motives too. Especially if said organization had influence in all sorts of different places, like Stranglethorn and Dustwallow.
But no. All we got was boar intestine collection quests. Pfah.
DanH Jun 16th 2009 11:03AM
That's not story! It takes place below level 80!
macster Jun 16th 2009 11:44AM
I'm surprised the woman accepted my intestines, after what my Warlock did to those boars.
Flint Jun 16th 2009 11:06AM
I swear night-time Westfall is one of the most melancholic places in the whole of Azeroth. Just you and vast plains of dead crops, broken farmhouses and gnolls and bandits looting the remains of what life there is.
Cynwise Jun 16th 2009 11:37AM
This.
Duskwood at night is a land of nightmares, but Westfall at night is a land of broken dreams.
offday Jun 16th 2009 11:47AM
"or try to find a boar with an intact liver among dozens of boars with hepatic failure?"
Man, ain't that the truth.
Zebulin Jun 16th 2009 11:50AM
There was more "story and meaning" in Westfall, Duskwood and (to a lesser extent, IMO) in Redridge than in many of the BC or Northrend zones I quested through. Hell, I paid more attention to the plight of the farmers of Westfall or the citizens of Darkshire than I ever did to the attack on Arthas...
If all you remember was the horrible droprate of boar livers, you were doing something incredibly wrong.
Randomrestodruid Jun 16th 2009 11:53AM
Boars without livers? If you think that's bad, try questing in Barrens. Apparently alot of raptors don't have heads, and zhevras have no hooves.
