Death Knight class arrives in the TCG
Upper Deck has announced that the Death Knight class is coming to the WoW trading card game. Just like in the MMO, the class plays differently than any other -- their website has a series of previews posted that show just how different their DKs are. The class is designed to do crazy damage with two-hand weapons, and there are options to do extra damage by sacrificing allies or equip gear that provides you with solid armor even as you're churning out DPS. There are Death Knight Horde and Alliance allies as well, and each of them has a Death Knight-specific ability -- lots of Shadow damage, exchanging protection for more damage, and even some Frost-tree cold debuffs. And there are quests to go along with the Death Knight class as well, where DKs get extra bonuses for completing and playing certain quests.
Starting on June 16th, you'll be able to pick up 36-card deluxe starter decks for Death Knights at a store near you, and those decks will get inserted into the game just like any other class -- they come with a Hero to play, associated spells and quests, and three "Ghoul token cards" to play as allies. While this is the first time Death Knights will be playable as Heroes, the very first Death Knight cards were actually included in the Wrath of the Lich King Collector's Edition -- a pair of Ally cards named Lord Anton Nightbane (Alliance) and Conqueror Kagon Blackskull (Horde). If you like the TCG but have been looking for a new twist (or a way to bring your Death Knight character into the game), this definitely seems worth a look.
And speaking of the TCG, they are now on Facebook, so if you're a fan, go say hi over there as well. The MMO and TCG crowd still seem to run in different circles (though you'll definitely see the game at BlizzCon), but there are quite a few intersecting points between them.

Are they going to as horridly OP as when they were first put into WoW?
Cogfizzle Jun 17th 2009 7:37AM
Just in response to a couple of posts:
"Are DK's OP like in the MMO?"
It doesn't look that way. Death Knights are obviously being given a foot up to the current power level of classes around at the moment, but they're still going have far fewer cards available to them than anybody else. Compared to any other class their options look very limited simply because they've got 2 months of cards not 3 years worth. They're also picking up some core techniques (sticking diseases on things that DoT) which aren't often successful in the TCG. A lot of their cards look to be good when used with other cards, and in TCGs that just means your opponent can pick your stuff off one-by-one and you never get to develop those interactions that make your cards good.
DKs are a grower, but it will take a long time for them to catch up to the current flavor of the month - Mage.
"Are they going to errata old Paladin/Warrior cards"
No. This would be a massive task and would start to cause problems because DK ISN'T just a paladin or warrior, it has different strategies and playstyles in the MMO and in the TCG. Going forward expect to see a lot of Warrior/Paladin weapons also being usable by DKs, but nothing is planned to be changed in cards that already exist.

I love it when you guys plug the TCG. I've been "LFG" for months now!

It gets to "death grip" your best card out of the deck and cut it up with a pair of scissors you can send away for, when it turns the card to ice and gives it the plague.
Then if you happen to have the Death Grip Glyph also in your deck you get to do this UNTIL there are no more heroes in ANY of the opposing players decks, since each of the last kill yield "honor or experience"
However, it's okay as Blizzard will always claim that they feel this card is perfectly balanced for the PVP arena

Oh god. I'm an avid player of the TCG (was before I even played the MMO)...and some of those allies (especially the first one with Ferocity when your hero has a weapon) is just...gonna be AMAZING for my Warrior deck. Fits the design of the deck perfectly.
I want to know how the DKs play though....like...are they errata-ing weapons and armor and saying, "If a Warrior or Paladin can use it, a DK can"?

I don't play the card game but wish they would put out another volume for the Art of the card game. A lot of the art is fantastic. (First one had too many Molten Core pics though)

One on the right looks like Spiderman for some reason

Now that the DK's are in the TCG can they be removed from the game?..
