New details on the Argent Tournament update in Patch 3.2
Patch 3.2 is currently in development, and not yet on the PTRs. We've been told that it will focus on expanding the Argent Tournament that was introduced in patch 3.1, and we've also learned that it will feature new Druid form art and a new battleground, Isle of Conquest.
Today Blizzard posted a preview of some of the Argent Tournament updates, and it looks pretty cool. There are going to be two new Tourney-related quest hubs in Icecrown: a Cult of the Damned camp overlooking the Tourney, and a Vrykul outpost on an island to the north. The Black Knight will also be returning; I guess it was only a flesh wound after all.
There are also going to be new dailies and new rewards for players exalted with the Silver Covenant/Sunreavers, as appropriate. Silver Covenant and Sunreaver tabards, their ground and flying mounts, and a Shimmering Wyrmling pet are all mentioned.
Furthermore, those who have earned the Crusader title will get some more dailies, and some exciting rewards, including new heirlooms (!), a banner, a tabard that ports you to the tourney, a squire with a mount, and a Paladin-only charger mount.
New heirlooms, you say? Nice, but I wish they weren't at the end of five tedious rep grinds. Oh well, time to get to work, I suppose.
Update: Blizz have edited the page to say the new squire will cost 150 Champion Seals to upgrade, will be summonable for 3 minutes every 8 hours, and will perform one of thee services: mail, bank, or vendor.
Patch 3.2 will bring about a new 5, 10, and 25 man instance to WoW, and usher in a new 40-man battleground called the Isle of Conquest. WoW.com will have you covered every step of the way, from extensive PTR coverage through the official live release. Paladin only charger mount sorta... stinks... everyone can earn the crusader rank but only paladins can get the Crusader Mount?
Mattimus Jun 16th 2009 3:07PM
It's almost exactly the same as the Paladin charger, with a different texture on it. As a Paladin, I'd really rather NOT see everybody else riding my class-only mount with a few slight changes, and I think anyone with a class-only thing would very much agree.
Shakezula Jun 17th 2009 1:59PM
As a non-Paladin, I think it's stupid that Blizzard is giving these to only Paladins. I can see your point about not wanting people to be riding on your class mount, so they shouldn't even implement this.

Awesome!

"Wait....the badass, Silver Covenant Hippogryph is alliance only?"
And the Horde get a dragonhawk without having to farm/grind/quest for 100 mounts. Your point?
I'm sooooo looking forward to this; I kept hoping the Argent Tournament would develop into something awesome, and it looks like it's going to start delivering now.
tresser Jun 16th 2009 2:45PM
I know, but i was kinda hoping it was going to be faction neutral.
Mattimus Jun 16th 2009 3:03PM
Well, it was always called the Silver Covenant Hippogryph. It would be a stretch for a Horde-hating faction to give the Horde something.
Although, we did see the Kirin Tor welcome the Horde into Dalaran even though the Horde STILL have a quest to kill Kirin Tor wizards...

I wouldn't call it a tedious rep grind. The dailies take 30 minutes and factoring in Champion's Writs, you get 2,000 rep per day. It sucks a little for DKs, but anyone who quested 1-80 should already be close to revered with the home factions. And if you aren't, then you can blow through old world quest content for quick, easy rep.
The time investment is not bad compared to some others like Netherwing, whose dailies took an eternity.
Clbull Jun 16th 2009 3:27PM
It doesn't take as long if you have a 280% speed flying mount. As for the painfully slow 60% speed flying mount, that is a slightly different issue.
Some of these quests have you running all around Northrend as well.
Debrazil Jun 16th 2009 3:35PM
That might add 15 minutes to the total time. Joust -> Fly to Chillmaw -> Fly to Citadel -> Kill Scourge next door -> Fly a few yards to Dalaran and catch the gryph to wherever your sword maiden is -> hearth to Dalaran -> gryph to the Tournament. The hardest part is flying from Chillmaw to the Citadel. It's still not as painful as Netherwing, Skyguard, etc for your 2k rep reward.

Paladin charger wooo :D
The envy of every other class, and dont we just love it.
NekoDaimyo Jun 16th 2009 2:53PM
Man, the rep grind with the tournament is anything but tedious, compared to how it was when all you could do was turn in rune cloth. Stacks. And. Stacks. Of Rune Cloth.
Vanyl Jun 16th 2009 2:57PM
So the mount for the squire... it's unlikely but I think it would be cool if his mount was whatever faction's flag you have him fly.
buedefixe Jun 16th 2009 6:32PM
nah, it'll be the pony ghostcrawler promised me
Hreidmar Jun 16th 2009 3:00PM
"Nice, but I wish they weren't at the end of five tedious rep grinds."
You clearly have not ground for rep very much. Try ravenholdt or Wintersaber... give them a shot. Then we'll discuss tedious. The gold alone is worth running the dailes.
Laynne Jun 16th 2009 3:12PM
Wintersaber...*shudder* That was tedious. Towards the end it was even painful. Glad I did it thought; I love my mount. I've never done Ravenholdt, but I don't even want to imagine what that would be like. The Tournament dailies get boring, but they aren't bad at all. You're right, the gold is great.
Aarkan Jun 16th 2009 3:00PM
Why would you ever assume that the Silver Covenant's mount would be faction neutral? Can the Horde walk into their section of Dalaran? When you take that flight point are Horde riding the hippo or the hawk? I don't think anyone ever thought the Silver Covenant hippogryph would be faction-neutral, they're not the Cenarion Expedition or the Argent Crusade. Just as nobody expected the Alliance would get the Sunreaver's Dragonhawk.
cb Jun 16th 2009 3:02PM
I'm disappointed if you do need all those exalted factions. because it's still so much harder for older characters. My main frex is still way off exalted with many of the city factions. the alt I created in TBC will pretty much get all those reps when she runs through the AT grind once.
Mattimus Jun 16th 2009 3:05PM
The Argent Tournament makes getting Exalted with the home cities very easy, and by the time you're done, you ALSO get enough Silver Covenant/Sunreaver rep to be exalted, or near exalted, with them too. It's actually very streamlined.
Obsidian Jun 16th 2009 3:43PM
Yeah its honestly not that hard. I've got the crusader title on my DK and am close on my original toon (a rogue that i made in pre-bc). So its not that bad. I only even do those quests when I need gold, and then at the end I did 10 dwarf starting quests to finish off my rep and got my title
