"zerg'ing" also means to go balls-to-the-wall from the moment you engage. You hold nothing back and do your most damaging and devastating attacks right from the start to shorten the battle. It's usually concerned more with raid make-up than numbers, which is why its theoretically possible to zerg in a 10-man- it just needs to focus on the heaviest hitting and strongest classes.
I played FFXI for a number of years, and zerging is a very popular way these days to down a number of bosses. Haven't seen the same tactic applied in WoW so much.
