In the realtime strategy game Starcraft (also by Blizzard), one of the three factions are called the Zerg. They are a race of biological manipulating aliens. One of their strengths is the ability to create massive numbers of low level units very quickly. One common tactic is to quickly create large hordes of cannon fodder troops and sweep over the enemy before he can get his own troops and infrastructure established. This is called "zerging."It has evolved to cover similar situations where you go fully offensive, often completely ignoring defense or full preparation, in hopes of overwhelming your objective. In WOW, it if also often used when players of a much higher level than the content they are facing power through the opposition with little or no preparation or downtime. High level players are also often asked to "zerg" lower level toons through content, essentially letting a high level toon one-man a quest or instance while the low level tags along.
