Crusaders' Coliseum details released

Bornakk just released some major details of the Crusaders' Coliseum, the new 5/10/25 man dungeon that will be released with Patch 3.2.
First and foremost, this will be the next tier of raiding. There was some speculation that this would be an interim tier of raiding, however that is not the case. The gear that will come out of the Crusaders' Coliseum appears to be Tier 9.
Secondly, the encounters will be unlocked one per week until all five encounters are available. This mirrors very closely the way the Sunwell Plateau was handled back in Patch 2.4.
Finally, there will be a new "Crusaders' Tribute" mechanic. The mechanic appears to track the number of times you attempt an encounter, and the fewer times it takes you to complete the encounter, the greater the loot will be for the final boss. A type of raid where you are going for the Tribute rewards will be called a "Tribute Run."

This is the official announcement:
In the next major content patch, the construction of the Crusaders' Coliseum on the Argent Tournament grounds will be complete, and it will hold new challenges for players. We'd like to share some details on the new dungeon, which represents the next tier of content for the game, but keep in mind that this is still in development and subject to change. The Crusaders' Coliseum will include:
- New epic 10- and 25-player raid dungeon with five encounters, with each encounter being unlocked one week at a time
- A more intuitive structure for harder encounters. This raid dungeon will have four different versions: 10-player, 25-player, 10-player Heroic, and 25-player Heroic, with each one using a separate lockout.
- Introduction of the Crusaders' Tribute! Each of the Heroic mode instances has a new tribute system that will limit players on the number of attempts they get in the Coliseum each week to present a greater challenge for the most battle-hardened heroes. Additional rewards can be earned depending on the number of attempts left in the tribute run each week when the final boss is defeated.
- New 5-player dungeon with three encounters that will include Champion's Seals as each one is defeated
- New tier of armor and weapons that are modeled with Alliance- or Horde-specific themes
Patch 3.2 will bring about a new 5, 10, and 25 man instance to WoW, and usher in a new 40-man battleground called the Isle of Conquest. WoW.com will have you covered every step of the way, from extensive PTR coverage through the official live release. Very much so, and hooray for the return of faction specific armour!!

Sounds amazingly complicated.
10-man heroic with a separate lockout. Are you serious?
Looking forward to how they handle badges, as if the Ulduar solution wasn't idiotic enough.

It seems like Blizzard is starting to put up some obstacles for guilds who roll through the content in 3 days by playing 72 hrs straight, started with Algalon and apparently it'll be here too. Interesting direction they've taken.

Personally I am quite happy about this. I am so tired of the pissing contest that is world firsts. Even more than that is all the QQ of "We beat the game, blizz sucks for pandering to the casuals blah blah blah"
I personally would like to see more stuff like Sunwell and AQ gates, that takes server wide effort to advance the available content.
But this is a step in the right direction.

I would like to see how Blizz would implement this emote with female toons...

Also, Horde/Alliance themed gear? Reminds me of raid gear during vanilla.

Thirded?
But anyway. Faction specific armor= yay!!
uncaringbear Jun 18th 2009 8:02AM
But what if your character is female?
Imagine a dwarf lady sitting at the bar, stroking her beard. Wait...

Sounds like something out of some bad hentai

That tribute system sounds intense! Hardcores will love that they're treated well for running better, but could be guild breaking, when raids fail. =X
I'll be running that 5 man definitely.

i'm kinda saddened by this news because a new tier of raiding leaves behind the old tier. my guild had naxx os and maly on farm status and were just starting to work through the achievements when ulduar was announced.
perhaps it just means this is a new way to encourage competition and skill amongst the player base-it seems like there was just so much time between black temple and sunwell, and particularly SWP, and patch 3.1 that i've come to expect longer time with raids to enjoy and flesh out the different mechanics of each dungeon.
with this patch obviously heading to the ptr soon (lol) it just makes me want to raid ulduar more and more.
kudos to blizzard for cranking out more content quickly.

There's no real competition with other guilds in PvE. You can keep doing content at whatever pace you like without any negative consequences. Patches like this just ensure that when you decide you've had enough of a dungeon, there's somewhere else to go.

To the people claiming Blizz is releasing content too quickly, keep in mind that when WOTLK came out, there were only 3 NEW boss encounters, VoA, Maly, OS. Naxx was a recycled joke. So yeah, I do think they should release content at a faster pace, when you think about it, we just finally got the first actually original raid instance of the expansion, assuming this crusader dungeon and icecrown are what we have to look forward to...compare that to BC. 3 original raiding instances in WOTLK(Uld,Crus,ICC) to 7 in BC (Kz,Za,SSC,TK,BT,Hyjal,SWP).
Dante Jul 15th 2009 5:25AM
Well that's not completely true. I mean, when TBC was first released, there was only Kz, SSC and TK. ZA, BT, Hyjal and SWP were all added in later patches.
