Thankfully in Ulduar pet damage is virtually non-existent. You just have to not be an idiot. If something is about to explode (i.e. Mim) you pull him away. There's no reason why your pet should be getting any damage at all on that fight unless you're prone to going afk for entire phases. They don't get damaged by anything iwhen fighting the majority of bosses. They don't get crap for AOE damage from bombs in XT or Mim. They don't get enough damage to worry about even with Yogg. It's easy mode to the extreme for pet management.

Sartharion and to a lesser degree Heigan in Naxx are the only two raid bosses that even pose a slight problem. The first just requires you to pay attention. The second most competent raid groups will cleanse and heal your pet (since the damage can be excessive).
