The OverAchiever: Guide to Midsummer Fire Festival achievements

A note on eligibility: your character will need to be at least 50 to hand in the items needed for King of the Fire Festival, and at least 65 to get the higher-level quests necessary for killing Lord Ahune in Slave Pens. With that said, we still recommend that lower-level characters participate, because you'll wind up with a ton of experience and gold even if you can't complete the meta-achievement.
Should you complete the meta, you will be awarded the "Flame Keeper" title. I've listed all of the required achievements in the order I think will be easiest/fastest for the average player to do.
UPDATE: Your character is currently unable to honor/desecrate any flame (including city flames) that you've honored/desecrated in 2008, which will make getting enough Burning Blossoms to purchase Midsummer clothing difficult, if not impossible. I'm still trying to find official confirmation that this is a bug (and I assume it has to be, as otherwise the meta-achievement isn't doable), but it also appears that fires have been added to Northrend as well. I'm heading ingame right now to assemble a list with coordinates and will update the post later.
The Fires of Azeroth
This is actually a meta-within-a-meta achievement as it encompasses Flame Keeper of the Eastern Kingdoms, Flame Keeper of Kalimdor, and Flame Keeper of Outland. It requires a lot of legwork and travel time, but should be easily doable for any 60+ character with a full set of flight paths. If you don't have a full set of flight paths, well, now would be a great time to get them; most fires are within a few seconds' walk of a flightmaster. For all new players, in order to "honor" or "desecrate" a fire, all you need to do is right-click on it.
Big thanks are due here to Wowwiki, which very helpfully had a set of coordinates for each fire. The sites for honoring flames aren't the same for the Alliance and the Horde, so I've split them up for separate notation below (but -- as you'll note from the achievement following this one -- you still need to know about the other factions' fires in order to complete Flame Keeper):

See all those fires I just listed above? Namely, the ones that don't belong to your faction? You get to visit them anyway! Again, this is a lot of legwork, but for most zones you should be able to honor your faction's fire and desecrate the opposing faction's, then simply move on the next zone.
Please note that even on a PvE server you will get flagged by desecrating the other factions' fires, so if you're not overly fond of world PvP, you'll probably want to try this during a slow period (or, better yet, with a group). That said, if my experience is any indication, enemy players will usually leave you alone in the smaller townships and villages because they're occupied getting their own achievements. Enjoy it while it lasts, because after that you get to do --

pherias@ Jun 18th 2009 8:15PM
So... when does this start?
Allison Robert Jun 19th 2009 12:01PM
The holiday runs from June 21st through July 5th this year.
meisaii Jun 18th 2009 8:17PM
The 21st.

Just a question. Last year when I was leveling my warrior, I managed to grab the Stormwind and Ironforge flames but couldn't do the quest as he was too low a level. I've had them stuffed in my bank ever since. Will we still be able to use the same items from last year for this year's event?
goege Jul 4th 2009 5:41PM
yes you can save them from year to year
Kylenne Jun 18th 2009 8:30PM
I'm glad we have such a huge window to get stuff done for Midsummer. That will definitely help my standard approach to holidays (waiting until the initial cluster**** of people is finished, but before the last minute rush starts).
Brouck Jun 18th 2009 8:32PM
This is fine and dandy, but is there a new loot table for Ahune?
Azukazil Jun 18th 2009 8:41PM
"Blizzard hasn't changed the holiday since its 2008 incarnation, which is actually a good thing in a number of ways because last year's revamped and expanded Fire Festival was great."
If they haven't ever changed it, how could it be "revamped and expanded"
Zrob Jun 18th 2009 10:16PM
He didn't say they never changed it, he said they didn't change it from last year.
Pre-2008 fires festival was mostly just the fireworks display. Things around Azeroth looked slightly different but you couldn't really tell anything was going on.
Last year, however, they added the burn/honor the fires quests, the juggling, the fire poles and the other flavor quests.
offday Jun 18th 2009 10:18PM
I think she means they haven't changed it from last year when they did revamp it.
Allison Robert Jun 19th 2009 11:58AM
What Zrob and offday said. The 2008 Midsummer Fire Festival was a huge improvement over the previous version of the holiday, but I don't think there are any huge changes to it this year (but I'll be around as soon as the holiday turns over to find out if I'm wrong). I'll alter the line though, it does seem a bit awkward.

Does the pet drop off of Ahune on both Normal and Heroic? I plan to try as often as possible!
Allison Robert Jun 19th 2009 11:51AM
It drops on both normal and heroic, so if your character isn't keyed for heroic Slave Pens, fear not. :)
kelly Jun 19th 2009 9:13AM
pssh i recomend this for lowbies below 30 for fun go to the enemy capitol city with an 80 freind try to steal the flame and if you do keep in your bank as a trophy. i have the flame of darnassus i got at lvl 30 or 20 something it is still in my bank also
joe Jun 18th 2009 10:50PM
what happens to us that got the bloodsail admiral title will we not be able to get the gadzetzan title or the BB title?
Allison Robert Jun 19th 2009 11:54AM
If you're hated or hostile with the Steamwheedle Cartel goblins, you should still be able to get the flames from around goblin cities, but be prepared to get harassed by the guards.
Foxsfyre Jun 25th 2009 7:19PM
The Flames are outside the cities, so you should be OK... but you may have to run across STV to get there...
megamogx Jun 18th 2009 11:28PM
I look forward to doing these all over again for the 3rd time....
Hark! Jun 19th 2009 5:44AM
wasn't it supposed to be "Flame WARDEN"?
