Breakfast Topic: Favorite in-game settlement
This is a fun thread over on the forums, and though we've talked about favorite cities a few times before, I like the use of the word "settlement" -- it seems different enough from "city" to consider separately. Your favorite city brings to mind images of metropolises like Stormwind or Orgrimmar, but "settlement" could mean anything -- the Mirage Raceway, way out in the middle of Shimmering Flats (those Goblins probably live there, right?), or the Arrakoa camps around Terrokar Forest. "Settlement" opens up the question a lot, from the biggest cities to the smallest huts on the outsets of Azeroth. So what's your favorite in-game settlement? Booty Bay and Loch Modan get a lot of votes in the thread. Personally, I kind of like the Westfall Brigade Encampment up in Grizzly Hills -- it was fun wandering around there and seeing the old faces from Westfall. Back in the old world, Lakeshire holds a little fascination for me -- it was the first time in the game that I was out of Elwynn and starting to realize just how big the world really was.
What about you?

Goldshire.
It feels like the 'homiest' place in all of the game for me. I spent so much time there as a lowbie when I couldn't figure out how to level.
Not to mention I absolutely love Hallows End there.

Archmage Vargoth's Retreat, if that counts. If I need to do something in Dalaran, and it doesn't need the involvement of someone or something else besides me, then I do it there.
Otherwise, I'd have to go with Yojimba Isle. Friendly trolls abound (for once), it's secluded enough to not be overcrowded, and it's easily the best spot to compete in the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza; in the weeks where I lost, I never had less than 30 fish.

Definitely Brill, it was the place where i took my first big steps in the world of Warcraft as an Undead Warrior!

I don't know if it's my favorite place, but i definitely have a place in my heart for Thelsammar. when i got my first mount at level 40, i went there at sunset and took a pic of myself on cliff overlooking the loch. i was so proud.

I still harbor a grudge towards those dark iron dwarves for trying to blow up the best dam in the world of warcraft.
jerks.

Bloodhoof Village. Not only for the same reasons as the guys who says Goldshire and Brill, but also because I love the rolling plains of Mulgore and I think the village itself is very beautifully set up.

Darkshire!!!

This. I like the creepiness of the area. Good place to hang out during Hallow's End.

Couldn't agree more. Darkshire just has a creepy feel that's lost on the other scourge/undead themed towns for some reason. Perhaps it's because it's the first such town encountered by Alliance, but the entire zone just screams Hallow's End.

Totally.

yeah, the first time I leveled in Darkshire, it was Hallows End and I honestly wondered if the pumpkins were decoration, or regular items for the town!

The little enclave you fly over when you take the gryphons from searing gorge to stormwind.
Right after you exit searing and enter elwynn , and before the waterfall.
Where no man has ever set foot :)
The tent there would do but i'dd have to ask SW to reroute the air traffic ofc.

with some acrobatics from the searing gorge side of that place you can actually get in there, get an epic riding mount and just try for a bit around there and you can often find a way in. took me about 40 min to find a trail there.
mind you, its not actually allowed :P
Xeo Jun 21st 2009 11:52AM
yeah you can actually get there somewhat easily by jumping through a wall in stormwind behind the AH and running under and around it near the coldridge valley/searing gorge area. there is one spot where you actually need to run on your mount, jump, and levitate to get over a little chasm though, so it can be pretty tricky for non-priests

+1 for Brill - that's where my priest was 'reborn' and I stood agape at the detail, atmopshere and emotional landscape that is WoW...

Booty Bay, quirky and a gateway to the Barrens.
MackFearson Jun 21st 2009 8:32AM
Menethil Harbor - my server always had great world PvP fights there, and it felt like you were really defending something.

Telaar in Nagrand for Outland.
For Azeroth - Booty Bay hands down
And in Northrend the Amberpine Lodge
